Chapter 310: 310 is very tired very tired
Finally, dawn broke and indeed, there were no Ice and Fire Glowworms outside. Everyone felt truly safe now, their tightly strung nerves relaxed, overwhelmed by fatigue, they quickly fell asleep.
Due to this, daylight hours were wasted and it was inconvenient to set off at night. Gu Fan felt that he was growing further away from Lin Xi, which made him quite anxious. If he failed to catch up with Lin Xi, he may not be able to complete the boss’s assignment and then Leng Le would be in danger.
But Gu Fan knew that haste made waste. After enduring several long days, everyone’s mental state was already poor. Deprived of a good night’s sleep after being disrupted by the glowworms, setting off immediately was out of the question.
Everyone slept through the morning and was slightly refreshed, but still looked quite worn out. It seemed the lack of sleep from the past few nights was taking its toll, making their conditions even worse.
Gu Fan suggested resting more, but old man Tian proposed getting a head start, even if it was just making use of the remaining afternoon. The next cabin wasn’t that far off and with a bit of effort, they could make it there before sundown.
Upon hearing this, everyone unanimously agreed. They didn’t want to go through another glowworm ordeal. They’d rather be tired and rest well once they reached the next cabin.
With the decision made, everyone immediately packed up their stuff and set off. On the way, Ning Qi apologized for her mistake last night which had led them into such trouble.
Gu Fan reassured Ning Qi: "It’s okay, accidents happen to everyone, it was just bad luck that it happened to you. We can’t blame you for this. On the bright side, thanks to your discovery, we were aware of the dangers posed by the glowworms. Otherwise, without knowing, we might have tried to catch them and the ramifications could’ve been much worse."
Despite agreeing with Gu Fan’s reasoning not to blame Ning Qi, the group felt like he was biased towards her.
"It’s a shame, Deng Wenli." Ning Qi sighed mournfully. The group was brought down again with the loss of another companion.
Just thinking about it gave them a chill. If Deng Wenli and Ning Qi hadn’t come across the glowworms, they probably wouldn’t have known about such a dangerous creature lurking beneath.
Hu Bo was puzzled: "We didn’t encounter any glowworms last time we were here, where did they come from?"
Ning Qi replied: "The glowworms only appear at night. We were asleep in the cabin then and nobody saw them. Most hunters probably also missed them, that’s why they haven’t been discovered yet."
The monitor nodded: "Not many hunters go this far and it’s quite likely, as Ning Qi suggested."
"Alright, save your energy. We must hurry." Old man Tian interrupted them, and everyone shut up to concentrate on the journey ahead. They were marching on with all their might. Although the next cabin wasn’t far, getting there in half a day was not easy.
Sure enough, snow started to fall. It wasn’t severe, but it made their journey harder. Old man Tian warned them about the incoming snowstorm: if they didn’t leave today, they would lose even more time.
Everyone gritted their teeth. They kept thinking about reaching the next cabin, getting away from the glowworms. Tired or not didn’t matter anymore.
At this point, Ning Qi and Hu Bo intentionally fell behind. Worried, Hu Bo asked: "What should we do? We’ve lost two people."
"Fewer people mean a larger share for us, isn’t that a good thing?" Ning Qi replied with a smug smile on her face. "It’s unfortunate for the two brothers, but that’s just bad luck."
"Makes sense," Hu Bo also laughed. Looking at Gu Fan’s back, Hu Bo’s smile faded. "The issue now is how to fool them. We can’t stick with them forever. How should we proceed?"
Ning Qi nodded: "I’m working on a plan. As soon as we reach the next cabin, we’ll find a way to part ways."
"Hope everything goes well. I’m really worried that we won’t be able to fool them." Hu Bo voiced the concern on both their minds. After spending so many days together, they realised Gu Fan and his team were shrewd and not easily deceived. Their plan might be disrupted by Gu Fan.
Meanwhile, Gu Fan whispered to Su Hui: "Be careful, Sister Su. We’re on a route chosen by Ning Qi and they will surely make a move."
"I’ve been thinking the same, but we’re not sure of their intention yet. We just need to stay alert." Su Hui responded, worried about what Ning Qi and her group might be up to, leaving them unprepared.
Gu Fan wanted to believe Ning Qi only meant to sightsee, not wanting to stir up tensions between the groups, but he had a feeling something was up.
At this point, everyone was exhausted. Their pace had significantly slowed down, especially Kang Rong, who could barely walk anymore.
Even Gu Fan, feeling drained from the 6-hour trek each day, thought his legs were on the verge of giving out. Yet, the Yuxueyun Mountain still seemed out of reach.
Lu Yi couldn’t help but ask: "Isn’t there a pathway where sled dogs can pull us directly?"
"There’s indeed such a route that leads directly to the Yuxueyun Mountain, without any obstacles for the sled dogs. But that’s where frequent avalanches occur, destroying everything in their path, hence the flat road," old man Tian answered, which left Lu Yi speechless. "Fair point. Safety comes first. Consider it as a way to exercise."
Ouyang Jin laughed: "Right, sometimes, we need Lu Yi’s optimism."
With everyone determined, they finally reached the cabin before dark. Initially, they were looking forward to getting some rest, but were shocked by the scene in front of them.
"Oh god, we didn’t expect this at all. What is this, a test, or torture? Can’t be, heavens." These were not just Lu Yi’s words, but the sentiments of everyone present.
Before them stood a shattered cabin with broken doors, windows, and roof. Faced with the upcoming snowstorm and the threat of the glowworms, everyone’s heart sank.
