Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 299: Wishing Each Other Well

Chapter 299: Chapter 299: Wishing Each Other Well

A bird flew over the icy, snowy landscape. After enduring countless freezing weather, and having flown for half a day, it finally landed in its owner’s hands.

Lin Xi gently raised her hand, and the bird perched on her delicate, jade-like fingers. Lin Xi smiled in satisfaction, tenderly stroking the bird’s feathers. She appeared to cherish it greatly.

Finally, Lin Xi ordered someone to cage the bird. Her eyes grew serious as she commented, "Gu Fan and the others sure have a lot of life in them."

"What happened? Did something bad occur?" Qin Jia asked anxiously. After all, Gu Fan and the others were considered comrades in her heart. The bond formed through adversity was not easily broken.

Lin Xi uttered a warning, "Everyone needs to be cautious, especially during blizzard-like conditions. If you hear any strange noises, cover your ears immediately. If anyone appears to lose their minds, you must not let them run wild."

"What’s going on and why give this command? Does it have anything to do with Gu Fan and their group’s encounter?" Du Jun asked nervously, sensing an ominous tone.

Lin Xi nodded her head, "Gu Fan and his group ran into the evil tree. The seeds of this tree are special; they thrive in cold weather, growing in snow-covered lands. Its roots can spread vastly, surfacing in its surroundings. Numerous tree trunks spring from the seed as their center. On the surface, it appears as a small grove, but in reality, all these trees are connected at one place. The crucial point is that after absorbing the flesh and blood of animals or humans, the seed can transform in shape."

Qin Jia trembled in fear, "You’re kidding! That’s so dangerous. How come we have never heard of this before?"

Lin Xi sighed, "There are many unusual creatures in this world that go unreported. Many things, like dinosaurs, fade into oblivion over time. But I did not think that this tree would be found here."

Qin Jia asked again worriedly, "Are Gu Fan and Xu Haowen alright?"

"It seems they are all unharmed which is why I said they are lucky." After saying this, Lin Xi’s brow furrowed, appearing deep in thought when a sudden shout echoed, "One of us is missing!"

"What, someone is missing?" Du Jun’s heart sunk as he darted a glance at Lin Xi.

Lin Xi scanned the panic-stricken faces around her before asking, "Did any of you hear a strange sound during the blizzard?"

"Yes, I faintly heard what sounded like a woman’s singing." As these words came out, everyone felt an eerie chill, their faces turning even more ghastly pale.

"I see. You all don’t need to speculate anymore. I’ll tell you what it is, and then we will deal with that thing." Lin Xi sounded confident as she recited a mantra, setting all the birds free. With her skill, finding and eliminating those strange trees wouldn’t be difficult.

The mastermind, too, had the power to accomplish this. He had also encountered the strange trees and demolished them all in a straightforward manner.

Leng Le observed the mastermind’s absolute power, destroying the obstacles in their path as if they were nothing. She worried about what would happen if Gu Fan and the others were to encounter such strange trees.

The mastermind noticed Leng Le’s worried expression, and asked, "What are you worried about? Concerned about Gu Fan?"

"No, I’m not," Leng Le’s response was firm, knowing that any hesitation on her part would arouse suspicion.

"Good," the mastermind gave a cold smile as if warning Leng Le not to get distracted. He then added, "However, I do need to know about the safety of that young man." After saying so, he placed a call to Gu Fan.

On the other end, Gu Fan’s enthusiastic voice echoed, "What’s up, boss? If it’s not some generous sponsorship, I’m afraid there’s nothing to discuss."

The mastermind dismissed his comment, "I just want to know whether your progress can catch up with Lin Xi, and whether you have encountered any obstacles, how you have coped, or maybe you are now suffering from a headache or perhaps even crying."

"Sorry to disappoint you, but our progress is going smoothly. I assure you that we can catch up with Lin Xi." Gu Fan’s tone was filled with confidence. Of course, this was merely a bluff, for he couldn’t afford to lose any ground.

The mastermind smirked, "Well, if everything is going smoothly then I’m relieved. By the way, be careful, especially during the snowstorm if you hear anything...

"Any strange noises, right?" Gu Fan interrupted, before adding, "If we’re not careful, we could be enslaved by that noise, and then devoured by some evil trees. I’m sorry, but your warning came a little late. But we’ve already defeated those trees."

Upon hearing this, the mastermind was taken aback but quickly regained his composure. "Oh, congratulations on overcoming another challenge. That’s why I believe in you."

"Thank you for your faith in us. If it wasn’t for our conflicting standpoints, we could sit down for a drink and mutually admire each other." Gu Fan replied calmly, as if the difficulties couldn’t bring him down, much to the mastermind’s surprise. Despite everything, why was Gu Fan still standing unscathed?

"I wish you continued luck then." After ending the call, the mastermind looked grave, "Just who is this Gu Fan? He seems like a regular college student, but why do I feel threatened by him?"

Upon hearing this, Leng Le recalled Gu Fan’s past deeds and the difficulties he had overcome. Indeed, as the mastermind said, Gu Fan was not as simple as a standard college student.

Another person was also feeling concerned – Hai. He had learned that Jie had also followed them. He cursed in his mind, why did that foolish little brother have to stick his nose into this trouble? Couldn’t he have just stayed obediently at home? Why was he getting involved in such a dangerous situation?

Thanks to the mastermind, they had not felt challenged by those trees. But Hai knew that the situation would be dire if Gu Fan and Jie ran into the same strange trees. He didn’t know Jie’s current condition.

Leng Le did not know how to comfort Hai and could only advise him not to overthink it, as things might not be as bad as they seemed.

Meanwhile, after hanging up the call, Gu Fan stared blankly at the sky. His eyes were devoid of light and he looked very weary. Apparently, he had been bluffing earlier and did not want the mastermind to know the extent of his physical and mental exhaustion.

"God, when will all this end? When can I live a quiet life? Why do I encounter so many dangers and bizarre things on the way? Are you hinting that I should stop moving forward?" Gu Fan shook his head to clear his worries and continued on his way.
