Chapter 250: Chapter 250: Development will Make Things Better
Gu Fan had not chased after her for long when he saw a guy holding a bouquet of flowers, smiling towards Lin Xi, making a confession. Lin Xi stood there, stumped, unsure of how to react.
The guy forcefully shoved the bouquet into Lin Xi’s hands, obviously hoping that she would agree to be his girlfriend.
Gu Fan quickly walked up to the guy, slung an arm around his shoulders, and acted like they were close friends. "Buddy, I must admit I admire your fearlessness. As her ex, I can give you some good advice: the deeper you love someone, the more painful it is when you get hurt. I’m still feeling the pangs." Gu Fan then put on a show of touching his chest, pretending to be in pain.
Lin Xi rolled her eyes, annoyed by Gu Fan’s speech, which made her out to be an emotional cheat.
The guy who had just confessed was quite embarrassed. He glanced at Gu Fan, back at Lin Xi, and noticing the challenging stares they were giving each other, he had an odd realization: "Are you two really broken up?"
"Of course we’re broken up, it’s public knowledge by now. But I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of us getting back together." Gu Fan barely finished speaking when he noticed Lin Xi freeze, her eyes flashing as if a ray of light had passed.
"Who wants to get back together with you?" Lin Xi pretended to look angry, then turned to the guy and said: "I don’t have a bad first impression of you. It’s not that there’s no possibility between us. How about this, invite me out for dinner and a movie tonight, I’ll see how you perform."
"Really?" The guy was so happy he almost cheered, but was doused by Gu Fan’s cold water: "Don’t get too excited, mate. By the time the appointed time comes, you’ll discover that not only her is coming, but also her roommates. Four of them against you, they will devise all sorts of inhumane ways to test you. You need to be careful and responsive to each one of them. If they think you’re useless, they’ll cut ties, if they think you’re weak, cut ties, too obedient, cut ties, too chauvinistic, cut ties, boring, cut ties, if they think you’re not frugal when you drink yogurt because you don’t use a lid, cut ties, if they think you’re not generous enough, cut ties. In short, if you can’t please all four of them, I’m afraid you’ll be left with nothing."
Upon hearing this, the guy looked stunned, then asked: "So, how did you win her over in the first place?"
Gu Fan looked serious and said: "I’m not being selfish here by refusing to move on after a breakup, I really can’t bear to watch you throw yourself into the fire."
Lin Xi was so mad at what he was saying. What bathroom? What poop? What bonfire? She angrily gave Gu Fan the bouquet, then asked, "Are you allergic to flowers?"
Gu Fan was perplexed: "No, why do you ask?"
"Well, now you are." After saying this, Lin Xi snapped her fingers and turned around. She was so mad that she didn’t want to see Gu Fan again.
Before Gu Fan could figure out what was going on, he suddenly sneezed several times in quick succession. Unable to stop, he quickly gave the flowers back to the guy: "Excuse me, ah-choo, you can, ah-choo, find another girl, ah-choo, this one really isn’t right for you, ah-choo, nor for any other guy, ah-choo, she’s suited for a lifetime of solitude, ah-choo."
Lin Xi hadn’t gone far and had heard everything. She was so angry that she was trembling. If she had still been the old Lin Xi, she would not have let Gu Fan off so easily.
To make matters worse, Gu Fan, shameless as always, hurriedly caught up and grabbed her arm, beaming, trying to take credit. "You see, I helped you successfully refuse a suitor you didn’t like. I know you’re grateful, I just wanted to give you a chance to express your gratitude."
Upon hearing this, Lin Xi glared at Gu Fan again. "Gu Fan, you said I’ve changed, you’ve also changed, how did you become so shameless all of a sudden? How can you be so shameless?"
Gu Fan had an answer ready: "A person’s change would surely have been influenced by the people around him. Otherwise, why would he change for no apparent reason? Although you’re an exception."
"What do you mean, are you saying it’s my fault you’ve become so shameless? Is it my fault?" Lin Xi was confused, but Gu Fan’s next line almost made her pass out from anger.
All Gu Fan did was say, very seriously: "I didn’t mean that, but you can interpret it that way if you like."
"Forget it, forget it, I don’t want to talk to you anymore." As Lin Xi turned to leave, Gu Fan followed, looking like he had every intention of persisting.
Just then, a car pulled up in front of the school gate. As soon as Lin Xi saw it, she ran towards it as if it were a life-saving buoy.
Gu Fan didn’t need to guess who was in the car. Sure enough, it was Du Jun. What surprised him was that Qin Jia got out of the passenger seat.
"Oh my gosh," Gu Fan pretended to lament, "Qin Jia, I’ve been wondering why I hadn’t heard from you in days, I never expected you to have switched sides so quick. You’re going to break our hearts."
Hearing this, Du Jun quickly retorted: "Please, Gu Fan, stop talking nonsense. I have a sense of responsibility. I will take good care of Qin Jia and protect her. I don’t need your advice."
"Protection? Care?" Gu Fan asked, looking puzzled, "What do you mean by that, you guys couldn’t possibly...?"
Lin Xi retorted, annoyed: "What’s it to you if they’re freely in love?"
Gu Fan seemed composed: "Sorry, but Professor Luo called a few days ago and asked Sister Su and me to look after Xu Haowen and Qin Jia. He said they’re too young and asked us to keep an eye on them so they don’t fall for the wrong person."
Du Jun seemed a bit mad: "Gu Fan, what do you mean? Are you calling us the bad guys?"
"Could what you’ve done before be considered decent?" Gu Fan’s response left Du Jun unable to counter, but luckily Qin Jia smoothed things over: "Gu Fan, put your mind at ease. I’m not a child anymore, I can judge for myself."
"I can see that. Once in love, who amongst men and women would still have any judgement? I’m the one who has been there before. Qin Jia, you..." Gu Fan was about to continue but Lin Xi quickly interrupted him: "Please Gu Fan, it was hard enough for me to play matchmaker and get these two together. Could you please not mess this up?"
"How am I messing anything up? I’m just selflessly thinking of Qin Jia." After finishing, Gu Fan pretended to take a very righteous attitude, making Lin Xi almost go crazy. Eventually, all she could say was: "If Du Jun hadn’t gotten together with Qin Jia, it may have been me who ended up with Du Jun. Would you like to see me and Du Jun together?"
Gu Fan was momentarily taken aback, his expression somewhat strange. He then shrugged his shoulders, signaling his surrender: "You’re good, you’ve won, I won’t interfere."
