Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 187: Ruining the Atmosphere
Chapter 187: Chapter 187: Ruining the Atmosphere
A month later, the news was awash with stories about Luo Jingrong. Stories about him setting up a factory in the city, the wonders of the drugs produced by his company, the economic benefits it could bring, and the multitude of jobs it would create.
With the media’s praise, Luo Jingrong’s fame became unmatched, even surpassing the big celebrities.
When Gu Fan and Leng Le walked down the street, they saw Luo Jingrong related news on the screens of many shopping plazas. This made Gu Fan feel envious, sometimes feeling that this world is indeed prepared for celebrities.
However, Leng Le had only contempt in her eyes. Didn’t Gu Fan know? Wasn’t he aware that Luo Jingrong exposing himself in the public eye was primarily for security? Everyone was keeping an eye on his every move, so anyone with malicious intent would have to think twice.
So it happened, Leng Le had received a message from her boss, advising her to hold off targeting Luo Jingrong for now, to wait until all the fuss had died down.
Leng Le was left wondering what to do if the fuss never died down. Does she just stand by and watch her prey taunt her without being able to strike? The thought of this frustrated Leng Le so much that she rolled her eyes at Gu Fan. If it weren’t for Gu Fan messing up that night, Luo Jingrong would have been in Leng Le’s bag. Would she have this much trouble then?
Gu Fan, who received an unprovoked rolling of the eyes, felt baffled, wondering what he did wrong during a seemingly pleasant date. Did Leng Le possibly catch him sneaking a look at a passing beauty?
With no action to take during this period, Gu Fan and Leng Le were like a normal couple – dating, dining, shopping, watching movies, and occasionally flirting. For some reason, Leng Le had started to acclimate to this kind of lifestyle, even finding it rather appealing.
Nevertheless, Leng Le knew that even the most beautiful fairy tales must return to reality. She and Gu Fan were bound to break up eventually, though she was uncertain what the scene would look like. Seeing Gu Fan fully immersed in their relationship, Leng Le couldn’t bear to ruin it.
"No, can’t give in," Leng Le muttered to herself, clenching her teeth. She reminded herself how ruthless she had to be, how cold-hearted she always was, and that she could not let any feelings of affection get in the way of anything or anyone.
Just at that moment, there was a commotion on the street, which put Gu Fan and Leng Le on alert. They turned their heads to see three men running fiercely towards them, and police officers pursuing them.
"Out of the way! Out of the way!" The three men were visibly malevolent, brandishing knives. People on the street didn’t dare provoke them and quickly made way.
Gu Fan and Leng Le also didn’t want any trouble and prepared to get out of the way. However, the thugs seemed to be tired. They knew they couldn’t outrun the trained police and would inevitably get caught. So they decided to take hostages from the roadside.
Unfortunately for them, Gu Fan and Leng Le were in the thugs’ immediate line of sight. So, one of the thugs lunged at them. Frightened, every bystander fled, and Leng Le looked visibly unsettled. She didn’t like this position.
Gu Fan stepped forward, pulling Leng Le behind him, then kicked one of the thugs to ground. The strong, accurate, and ruthless move stunned Leng Le, making her realize that Gu Fan’s abilities were now no less than hers.
While Leng Le was still stunned, the third thug rushed from the side, grabbing Leng Le’s arm, intending to take her as a hostage.
Gu Fan, eager to save Leng Le without thinking twice, bravely rushed to fight, and in turn, had a knife wound on his arm. His sleeve instantly turned red with blood, but Gu Fan managed to twist the offender’s arm, forcing him to drop his weapon due to the pain.
Fortunately, the police arrived, and along with some brave civilians, the three thugs were quickly apprehended and taken away.
"Are you okay?" Leng Le asked Gu Fan, eyeing his bloody sleeve anxiously. But Gu Fan just smiled, "I’m fine, it’s just a minor scratch, what matters most is that you are alright."
Upon hearing this, Leng Le felt a warm feeling, as if the cold heart she had kept hidden deep inside was slowly melting.
With Leng Le accompanying him, Gu Fan received medical attention at a hospital. Despite insisting that he was fine, the doctor stated that it would have been quite a serious issue if the wound was a bit deeper.
To thank Gu Fan, Leng Le decided to treat him to dinner at a fancy seaside restaurant, to which Gu Fan gladly agreed.
"Don’t be so naïve next time," Leng Le said while gingerly touching Gu Fan’s bandage, worry noticeable in her eyes.
Gu Fan laughed, "Don’t worry, I’m strong and my recovery speed is even better. This small thing can’t stop me. Especially after eating this grand meal you’ve treated me to, I’m sure to be as strong as an ox."
"Alright, alright, I know you’re tough. Thank you for protecting me that way," Leng Le responded, expressing her gratitude. Gu Fan grinned ear to ear, then spent some time intensely admiring Leng Le’s beauty.
Leng Le, slightly embarrassed from his stare, asked angrily, "What? Haven’t you seen enough?"
"I feel like I could watch forever." After saying this, Gu Fan smiled, holding onto Leng Le’s hand tightly. "How does it feel to be protected by me? I didn’t make a wrong choice in being your boyfriend, did I?"
Upon hearing these words, Leng Le couldn’t help laughing, not feigning it, but with a genuine smile. This feeling of being protected, that warm sense of security, slowly warmed her icy heart.
Even though Leng Le kept telling herself that she didn’t need any feelings, that she would definitely not fall for Gu Fan, she couldn’t resist this ignited sensation.
Suddenly, many dazzling fireworks lit up the night sky by the seaside, enhancing the ambiance with melodious, captivating music, causing many people to step out of the dining area, flocking to the rooftop to watch and admire the spectacle.
"How about it, would you like to grace me with a dance under these fireworks?" After saying this, Gu Fan held out his hand with a smile, which was reciprocated by Leng Le with her own.
And so, the two of them found a less crowded spot and under the accompaniment of music, under the backdrop of the fireworks, and led by Gu Fan, began to dance.
Gazing at each other, feeling each other’s breath and heartbeat, they danced in rhythm step by step, quickly generating a silent understanding. Their dance moves were as fluid as moving clouds and flowing water. They gradually started to immerse themselves into the dance, oblivious to their surroundings, setting aside all their worries, and their dance got better the more they danced.
Just a glance, just a smile was enough. That sense of telepathy told Leng Le how Gu Fan would lead their dance next. Every motion they made fitted seamlessly. It was perfect.
The feeling was just too good. They felt as though they were the only two people in the world, deeply gazing at each other, with only the other in their minds, like their bodies were dancing instinctively.
When the music stopped, when the fireworks ceased, Gu Fan and Leng Le were brought back to reality. But that wonderful feeling remained in their hearts, seeming to imprint itself deep within their souls.
Around them, countless applause rang out. Without realizing, many people had seen Gu Fan and Leng Le dancing so harmoniously, so perfectly. It seemed like only people deeply in love could achieve this.
Seeing so many people gathered around, applauding, blessing, and casting envious glances, Gu Fan and Leng Le, being the center of attention, felt somewhat embarrassed.
The dance had ended, and dinner had also ended. Leng Le drove Gu Fan home. As she watched Gu Fan leave, her eyes revealed a hint of reluctance.
Leng Le quickly noticed, sighing inwardly, "Could it be that I’m really falling for this guy? No, absolutely not."
Suddenly, Leng Le remembered a warning she had heard when planning to approach Gu Fan: Don’t underestimate Gu Fan; don’t think that you can control him. Be careful not to play with fire. It might be her who falls into it, not just Gu Fan.
"I’m a person without feelings. I’m a cold and unfeeling person. All of these pleasant feelings are fake, they’re all useless," Leng Le kept telling herself, but she still couldn’t shake off her feeling, her face filled with worry.
Just as Leng Le had just started her car to leave, she saw a man and a woman passing by on the street. The woman was Su Hui, walking with a handsome guy she didn’t recognize, laughing and chatting happily all the way.
Leng Le thought, "Su Hui usually leaves work on time, why is she returning so late tonight? Could she be on a date with this guy..."
Just then, reaching the door, Su Hui’s smile indicated she had arrived, leaving Zhuo Hang to offer an awkward smile and say, "Thank you for having dinner with me tonight."
Su Hui nodded, "It’s nothing. I’m also glad that you trust me this much, sharing so much with me. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone, including Gu Fan."
"It’s orders from above. It’s your hard work and performance that have won their approval, not my contribution. And I believe you will keep it a secret." Zhuo Hang continued, gazing deeply into Su Hui’s eyes and lost in thought.
Su Hui felt somewhat embarrassed under his gaze, her heart pounding, even avoiding eye contact with him.
A beautiful connection was forming between the two, making Zhuo Hang take a step forward, while Su Hui stepped back slightly, leaning on the door, a blush creeping up her cheeks.
Just as everything seemed to fall into place, Zhuo Hang ready to make a move, Su Hui blushing, an ill-timed voice interrupted, "Is that you out there, Sister Su? You’ve been standing there for so long. Can’t find your keys? Just say something. I can help you open the door. When will you grow up, you know?"
Hearing this, Su Hui nearly fainted, while Zhuo Hang awkwardly smiled, knowing the mood was ruined and could only wave goodbye until tomorrow.
Seeing Zhuo Hang leave, Su Hui felt a pang of loss, lowering her head, her heart sighing softly. And then the annoying Gu Fan urged her again to quickly enter the door, questioning why she was aimlessly standing outside and staring at the stars.
