Chapter 1680: Fierce Artillery Fire
Chapter 1680: Chapter 1680: Fierce Artillery Fire
Gu Fan and Lin Yue sped through the air, effortlessly bypassing the defensive line set up by the enemy along the coast, heading straight for the Demon Refining Island Base.
Previously, Gu Fan remembered the Demon Refining Island Base being submerged under volcanic magma. But now, it was restored to its original state, still resembling a black metallic mountain.
Dozens of helicopters hovered in the air, ready and waiting, as if they had anticipated Gu Fan’s arrival.
Unfortunately for them, Gu Fan and Lin Yue, working in tandem, dashed swiftly through the gaps between the dozens of helicopters.
"What’s going on?" The pilots in the helicopters hadn’t yet understood what happened when their helicopters disintegrated, sliced into pieces by Lin Yue’s Jian Qi.
Gu Fan paid no attention to the fate of the helicopters behind him; his mind was solely focused on reaching the Demon Refining Island Base, urgently wanting to uncover the secrets hidden there.
The base’s defense system soon detected the two figures approaching from the sky. Alarms sounded, and a variety of advanced weapons activated.
All kinds of artillery fired furiously, unleashing barrages on the two figures in midair.
An unrelenting storm of cannon fire ascended into the sky, akin to a torrential downpour of death, forcing Gu Fan and Lin Yue to dodge continuously in midair. Several close calls left them drenched in cold sweat.
Gu Fan felt his vision overcome by a sea of flashing firelight. The nearer he got, the brighter and hotter the firelight became, making him extremely uncomfortable.
A direct hit from a shell struck Gu Fan, blowing him to smithereens.
Lin Yue glanced at the scene, furrowing his brows, then rapidly ascended higher. There was no choice— the island’s defensive firepower was too intense to get close.
Quickly, Gu Fan resurrected, reconstructing his body. Although he was immortal, that blast left him in excruciating agony.
He made repeated attempts to attack but couldn’t penetrate the dense and ferocious firepower. Each time he advanced, he was blasted apart again.
Over and over, Gu Fan rebuilt his body. Over and over, he teetered at the edge of life and death. The incessant agony finally led him to realize that brute force was not the answer against such overwhelming defenses.
Eventually, Gu Fan and Lin Yue retreated into the forest to reassess their approach.
"My God, I’ve never seen such ferocious firepower in my entire life," Lin Yue said, his heart racing as he thought of how Gu Fan, not himself, had been blasted apart moments ago. Lin Yue lacked Gu Fan’s immortality.
Gu Fan gazed at the Demon Refining Island Base, a flicker of fear in his heart regarding the firepower. A direct assault was clearly futile.
Lin Yue suggested they ignore the base for now, assist the big boss in demolishing the X Legion’s coastal defenses, and then gather everyone’s strength to devise a plan to attack the island.
Gu Fan nodded in agreement but chose not to help personally. Instead, he instructed Lin Yue to go, while he continued observing the Demon Refining Island Base. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something was different this time—the artificial volcano seemed oddly lifeless.
Lin Yue offered no objection, trusting Gu Fan’s judgment, and set off toward the coast.
Time ticked by slowly, and Gu Fan ignored the plight of his comrades, disregarding how grueling their battles were. His focus remained solely on the Demon Refining Island Base.
Gu Xiaojin suddenly floated down from the skies, landing beside Gu Fan. "Dad, what are you staring so intently at? Your precious daughter showed up, and you didn’t even notice!"
Gu Fan stroked his chin in a contemplative manner. "It’s strange. From the moment the big boss launched the assault until now, that artificial volcano hasn’t shown any signs of activity."
Hearing this, Gu Xiaojin also found it bizarre. Could the enemy have fully controlled the artificial volcano, using it as an entry point to delve underground and explore artifacts from the ancient Super Civilization?
Gu Fan casually asked, "What’s the situation with the others? When can they break through?"
"Hard to say." Gu Xiaojin shook her head, indicating the difficulty of the battles. She explained that the X Legion had amassed numerous remould persons along the coast, each with considerable strength, able to hold off attacks from the big boss, Zhuo Hang, and Lord Xiong.
Gu Fan’s face darkened. While he had anticipated the X Legion’s formidable numbers, he hadn’t expected them to be this tough.
"Xiaojin, control the birds and take a look!" Gu Fan instructed, and Gu Xiaojin immediately complied.
Gu Xiaojin closed her eyes, entering a spell-casting state.
A seagull under her control spread its wings and soared toward the skies above the Demon Refining Island Base, attempting to investigate the volcano’s secrets.
Suddenly, a shell obliterated the seagull, reducing it to ashes and startling Gu Xiaojin.
"That’s too much! They don’t even spare animals!" Gu Xiaojin protested, but her objections were naturally futile— the enemy couldn’t care less.
Gu Fan shook his head. It seemed the enemy wouldn’t allow even a bird or insect through. To uncover the base’s secrets, he would have to personally tackle it.
"Go get ’em, Dad!" Gu Xiaojin clenched her fists, her posture full of encouragement.
Just as Gu Fan was about to act, a shell suddenly blasted toward the forest where he had been hiding, creating a shockwave that catapulted Gu Fan and Gu Xiaojin into the air.
The Demon Refining Island Base had detected Gu Fan’s presence, unleashing cannons indiscriminately at his location.
In an instant, thunderous explosions filled the air, the relentless blasts leveling portions of the forest, turning the terrain into scorched earth. Living creatures were annihilated so swiftly that they didn’t have time to scream.
Gu Xiaojin erected a defensive shield to fend off the bombardment, feeling the violent force hammering away at her protection. It was as though a massive giant was smashing her shield with an iron mallet, threatening to break through any second.
After ten minutes of relentless shelling, the forest was gone, the area blanketed in smoke and devastation, riddled with craters.
The Demon Refining Island Base analyzed the imagery, identifying Gu Xiaojin and a masked figure, then sought instructions from Ning Qi on how to proceed.
Facial recognition identified Gu Xiaojin as the daughter of the Demon King—a tricky situation indeed.
But Ning Qi scoffed coldly, "The Demon King’s daughter? So what? The Demon King instructed: anyone who dares oppose him must be killed without mercy, even his own daughter. Besides, I’m following Ao Sai’s orders right now. There’s no need to consider the Demon King’s opinion."
"Understood!" The X Legion immediately executed the order, locking their sights on Gu Xiaojin and the masked figure.
Ning Qi smirked triumphantly. "Goodbye, Gu Fan. Let’s see if you can endure this level of bombardment. This game ends now."
