Chapter 1652: Chapter 1652: Retreat or Advance

After escaping enemy pursuit, Gu Fan and Zhuo Hang walked and talked, surprised to encounter each other in this place.

Zhuo Hang was puzzled. This was the domain of the Demon King—why would Gu Fan help him? And it seemed Gu Fan was also avoiding people from the X Legion.

In response, Gu Fan explained he had traveled here from the past for one reason: to deliver a beating to the Demon King.

When Zhuo Hang found out the truth, he was stunned speechless. A battle between two eras of Gu Fan—that would undoubtedly be a summit clash worth anticipating.

Gu Fan looked at a device—it was a locator. Through the device, he could find out where Leng Feng, Gu Xiaojin, and Lin Yue were positioned.

The earlier chaos had separated everyone, so this locator was the only way to reunite.

Soon, Gu Fan and Zhuo Hang arrived at a resting room. Here, there were no surveillance cameras. They removed their helmets, and Leng Feng, Gu Xiaojin, and Lin Yue were already waiting for them.

No one had guessed that Zhuo Hang was the one who had just fought fiercely with the X Legion—no wonder his skills were so exceptional.

Zhuo Hang explained why he had infiltrated the base. He had been secretly stationed at the Demon Refining Island Base for years, intending to rescue Lord Xiong and the Boss, who had been captured by the Demon King.

Gu Fan was shocked. Even Lord Xiong and the Boss were prisoners? And it seemed they had suffered inhuman torture.

Zhuo Hang had already found out where Lord Xiong and the Boss were being held, but an enemy’s sudden heightened search efforts exposed Zhuo Hang, forcing him to kill his way out.

Originally Zhuo Hang couldn’t understand why the Demon Refining Island Base had sounded the alarm. Now it seemed likely that Gu Fan and his team’s infiltration had startled the X Legion, inadvertently uncovering Zhuo Hang during their sweep.

Gu Fan could only apologize, saying it hadn’t been deliberate.

Zhuo Hang didn’t dwell on it and demanded compensation from Gu Fan—help him rescue Lord Xiong and the Boss. Although no one knew how they were treated after their capture, with the Demon King’s temperament, they definitely wouldn’t be treated kindly.

Gu Fan agreed without hesitation. As long as it disrupted the Demon King’s plans, he would do anything. Plus, bringing Zhuo Hang, Lord Xiong, and the Boss into his alliance would greatly boost their odds—defeating the Demon King seemed within reach.

Everyone could see Gu Fan’s fighting spirit. He appeared more eager than anyone to take down the Demon King. His determination was so resolute that it was admirable and inspiring.

Yet, somehow, everyone found it odd—they’d never seen someone so desperate to thrash themselves.

Suddenly, an announcement sounded from outside, ordering everyone to remove their helmets. Without specific authorization, no one was to approach key areas or exits; violators would be treated as enemy targets.

The situation suddenly turned unfavorable for Gu Fan and the group, and a heavy sense of unease gripped them.

Without helmets, stepping outside would mean instant identification through cameras’ facial recognition systems. Things would get chaotic quickly.

What to do? What was the next move? Everyone turned to Gu Fan, hoping he could come up with a plan.

But Gu Fan wasn’t omnipotent; he didn’t have a solution for every problem. Faced with this scenario, he could only shake his head helplessly, further dampening everyone’s spirits.

Leng Feng grew impatient and suggested a desperate gambit—charge out together in a final attempt.

Everyone else shook their heads. Stepping out would mean immediate encirclement, making it impossible to fight through.

Based on Zhuo Hang’s observations, the Demon Refining Island Base housed many formidable figures who were not to be trifled with. Avoidance was the best course.

But if this wasn’t an option, nor was anything else, were they just supposed to wait for doom? Leng Feng, frustrated to the extreme, clenched his fist and slammed it against the wall in anger.

Just then, the entire Demon Refining Island Base began to tremble violently, as though the volcano were erupting again.

Zhuo Hang, having spent years here, took it in stride, explaining that the volcano’s activity would soon subside. The energy released by the eruption was quickly absorbed by the Demon Refining Island Base.

Gu Fan grew interested and speculated about the base’s purpose—it couldn’t simply be a man-made volcano, could it?

Unfortunately, Zhuo Hang couldn’t provide any clear answers. He only knew that the X Legion was searching for something at the base and that the man-made volcano served as a portal blocked by layers of magma.

Gu Fan made a guess—whatever the Demon King was searching for must be extraordinary, most likely related to the ancient Super Civilization.

Everyone nodded in agreement. In this world today, few things besides relics of the ancient Super Civilization could draw the attention of the Demon King.

Leng Feng couldn’t resist a pointed comment: "Come on, folks—now’s not the time to speculate about the Demon Refining Island Base’s purpose. Let’s figure out how to get out of here!"

Once this topic was brought up, everyone was stumped again, feeling utterly out of options.

Gu Fan asked Zhuo Hang, "Do you know how far the place where Lord Xiong and the Boss are held is from here?"

Zhuo Hang’s expression turned grim, and he replied, "It’s not close. You’d need to cover some distance, and even if we combined forces, it’s unlikely we could break through."

"Then we won’t team up—you attack your way, I’ll attack mine," Gu Fan remarked. His statement left everyone puzzled—what kind of strategy was that?

Gu Fan quickly clarified his intent: He and Zhuo Hang were the strongest in the group. Even if they encountered powerful foes, their lives wouldn’t be at risk, making them the best choices to draw enemy attention.

Though risky, it was their only shot. Zhuo Hang had no objections and, following Gu Fan’s plan, charged out first, striking relentlessly and showing no mercy.

Gu Fan wore his helmet and broke out second, heading in a different direction.

Gu Fan masked his appearance to prevent his face from being seen by the enemy, avoiding further complications.

Soon, thanks to Gu Fan and Zhuo Hang’s aggressive actions, alarms blared again, mobilizing the entire X Legion to join the hunt.

Ning Qi watched the monitoring screens. Zhuo Hang and a masked figure were recklessly rampaging about—what were they trying to achieve with such reckless behavior?

Judging by their skills, Ning Qi felt certain the helmeted figure had to be Gu Fan. She immediately ordered her men to focus on Gu Fan, insisting that he be beaten to a pulp.

The entire Demon Refining Island Base received Ning Qi’s directives. She even issued a reward—anyone who captured the intruders would be handsomely compensated, boosting the morale of the X Legion significantly.
