Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 1572: A Family
Chapter 1572: Chapter 1572: A Family
Late at night, Su Hui called out several times but couldn’t find Gu Fan, which was quite strange. What time was it already? Where could he go without sleeping?
Gu Ling thought about it and felt that, at Gu Fan’s age, and already being a father, he wouldn’t be so thoughtless. If he went out in the middle of the night, at least he should have informed his family.
"Xiaoling, I’m entrusting your niece to you, I’m going to look for Gu Fan." Su Hui started to change clothes, preparing to go out, always feeling that Gu Fan wouldn’t leave without reason; something must have happened.
Gu Ling tried to comfort her: "Sister-in-law, don’t worry. With my brother’s current condition, no one can mess with him. He won’t be in danger."
"I know!" Su Hui finished changing clothes, put on shoes, opened the door, and then saw Gu Fan standing outside, what’s more infuriating was that Gu Fan was still wearing a smile.
Suddenly Su Hui got angry: "It’s so late, you ran out for such a long time, don’t you know to tell us?"
Gu Fan immediately apologized: "Sorry, I had something to deal with, I thought it would be quick, but it took a little more time than expected."
Seeing Gu Fan looking somewhat embarrassed, Su Hui and Gu Ling both gave him suspicious looks, feeling that Gu Fan sneaking out like this seemed like he was up to some mischief.
"I have something to tell you, please stay rational, and don’t be shocked," Gu Fan said, and then chuckled dryly, as if it was something he didn’t know how to explain.
At this, Su Hui and Gu Ling immediately became nervous, as if sensing that something bad was coming.
Gu Fan continued: "I brought someone back with me. When you see her, please stay rational and restrained. Honestly, when I saw her, I was nearly stupefied."
"Who is it?" Su Hui and Gu Ling became even more nervous. With Gu Fan making it so mysterious, this person must be extraordinary.
Gu Fan composed himself, cleared his throat, and then made an inviting gesture: "Please come in, a member of our family."
Hearing this, Su Hui and Gu Ling widened their eyes, eager to see who this mysterious guest was and why Gu Fan called them a part of the family.
"Hi~" Gu Xiaojin walked in, waved her hand, and greeted them.
Su Hui and Gu Ling couldn’t believe their eyes; wasn’t this Lin Xi? Their first thought was that she had come back to life?
"Lin..." When Gu Ling was about to call out, he noticed Gu Fan’s warning glance and forcefully swallowed the word ’Xi’.
Gu Xiaojin was somewhat startled. Why did Su Hui and Gu Ling have such a big reaction upon seeing her? Gu Xiaojin thought she hadn’t revealed her identity yet; to them, she was just a stranger, just an unfamiliar face.
"She is?" Su Hui vaguely guessed a bit.
All they saw was Gu Fan chuckling dryly: "Her name is Gu Xiaojin, our daughter. It’s just that she has traveled from the future to this era, so..."
"Our daughter?" Su Hui took a good look several times, observing the person in front of her who looked exactly like Lin Xi. At this moment, Su Hui’s heart was incredibly complex; she felt no joy of a mother seeing her daughter grow up.
Su Hui obviously felt some resistance. She couldn’t accept that her daughter was the reincarnation of Lin Xi, and it also felt as though Lin Xi had come to steal her husband.
Gu Ling was very pleased, taking Gu Xiaojin by the hand and welcoming her inside. She scrutinized Gu Xiaojin, looking her over as if she were a priceless piece of art, making Gu Xiaojin feel uncomfortable.
"Aunt, could you not do that?" Gu Xiaojin felt too unnatural.
Gu Ling realized she had been too enthusiastic and quickly apologized: "Sorry, I’m just so happy and excited to see my future niece looking so beautiful." With that, Gu Ling gave Gu Xiaojin a big hug.
With her arms crossed, Su Hui watched Gu Ling and Gu Xiaojin playing around, her expression somewhat grave, and finally spoke, "Are you sure she’s our daughter?"
Gu Fan nodded stiffly: "I believe she is our daughter, after all..." Gu Fan didn’t continue, afraid that it might tip over Su Hui’s ’vinegar jar’ (a Chinese idiom for ’jealousy’).
Now, Gu Ling had pulled Gu Xiaojin down on the sofa to sit and began to study her carefully, things like her skin and hair texture, making direct comparisons with Lin Xi; they were indeed identical.
Gu Xiaojin couldn’t stand it anymore and protested: "Okay, Aunt, I’m begging you, spare me, please stop touching me, or I’ll have to start charging you."
"It’s fine, I’ll give you however much you want, just let me look at you a bit more." Gu Ling said with a sly grin, acting like a little devil, leaving Gu Xiaojin no choice but to dodge.
Driven by curiosity, Gu Ling asked, "Xiaojin, has anyone ever told you that you look like someone?"
"Like who?" Gu Xiaojin was curious.
Gu Ling immediately responded: "Like an elder from the Gu family."
"Really?" Gu Xiaojin was half-doubtful but from this, everyone could conclude one thing: no one had told Gu Xiaojin about her other identity, about her connection with Lin Xi.
At this point, Su Hui spoke in a serious tone: "Alright, you two stop messing around, it’s getting late. We can talk more tomorrow, it’s time to sleep."
"Mom... I..." Gu Xiaojin seemed to want to say something, but was interrupted by Su Hui’s indifferent words: "Didn’t you hear what I just said? Whatever it is can wait until tomorrow, staying up is bad for your skin."
"Alright then!" Faced with Su Hui’s imposing manner, Gu Xiaojin dared not say any more.
The old house had many rooms, and Gu Xiaojin was arranged in one of them; she was not unfamiliar with the old house, after all, it was where she grew up. But she just couldn’t fall asleep, tossing and turning.
Gu Xiaojin found it strange, having thought that she would have to work hard to convince her parents and aunt to believe she was Gu Xiaojin from the future. However, the course of events had completely exceeded her expectations; these few people seemed to know who she was at first glance, with no need for much persuasion.
"That’s not right!" The more Gu Xiaojin thought about it, the more she felt there was a problem, and that’s why she couldn’t sleep.
"Could it really just be because I look like an elder from the Gu family?" Gu Xiaojin always felt her parents and aunt were keeping something from her, but no one had told her whom she resembled before.
Meanwhile, Gu Fan, Su Hui, and Gu Ling were already having a secret meeting in a room, discussing what to do next.
Su Hui felt that they couldn’t unconditionally trust Gu Xiaojin just because she was their daughter. The reason was the mysterious masked person or the Gu Fan from the future; what would be the outcome?
Although what Su Hui said made sense, it was obvious that she was averse to Gu Xiaojin; there was no helping it, Su Hui now feels she didn’t give birth to a daughter but to a rival in love coming to snatch her husband, seeing Gu Xiaojin reminded her of Lin Xi coming back.
