Chapter 1546: The Partner is Angry
Chapter 1546: Chapter 1546: The Partner is Angry
Three days later, there came both good news and bad news, but to Gu Fan’s ears, neither seemed very promising.
Su Hui first shared the good news—that the influential figures had agreed to meet with Gu Fan, and also approved of his approach.
"Really that easy?" Gu Fan frowned at the thought. If that were truly the case, it would be a reason for gratitude, and there shouldn’t be any bad news to follow.
The bad news was coming right up, and Su Hui looked somewhat troubled but still spoke up. It turned out that the bad news was that Gu Fan was expected to lead the all-new Organization X, follow the directives of these influential figures.
"Are you kidding me! Have you ever seen Xue Wang listen to these big shots? Or seen a big boss take orders from anyone?" Gu Fan couldn’t accept it; not that he was unwilling to take orders—after all, he was quite willing to follow Su Hui’s commands.
But the issue was, who knew what these influential figures were planning, what their ambitions were, and what they might compel Gu Fan to do that would go against his conscience.
Su Hui also thought these influential figures were delusional, as Gu Fan was now at a level parallel to, or even surpassing, Xue Wang and the big boss. If they couldn’t handle Xue Wang or the big boss themselves, how could they expect Gu Fan to be obedient?
Gu Fan didn’t want to oppress others, but he also didn’t like being oppressed, so he rejected this proposal.
What’s the situation now? Organization X, Gu Fan’s group, various influential figures—they all check and balance each other. There’s no need to become hostile.
And to be blunt, Gu Fan didn’t see a problem even facing two-on-one, so he suggested that those so-called big shots better rest their case.
Su Hui shook her head and urged Gu Fan not to hold a grudge against those influential figures, after all, Gu Fan was neither the big boss nor Xue Wang, and wouldn’t commit any atrocious deeds.
Gu Fan pondered and then made a suggestion; now the influential figures were organizing people to deal with the remnants of Organization X. Honestly, a starving camel is still bigger than a horse, and Gu Fan didn’t believe the influential figures would be able to clean up Organization X.
If Organization X rose from the ashes, think about it, who would be the first to be targeted for retaliation by Organization X? The influential figures might have power and influence but in the end, they are still flesh and blood.
Su Hui understood what Gu Fan meant—in that scenario, Gu Fan would step in to solve the Organization X problem and bail out those influential figures. With his current strength, he was definitely capable of doing it.
All three sides maintaining a balance of power, Gu Fan wanted to remain neutral, so whoever hit Gu Fan first would be the unlucky one.
Su Hui was still a bit worried. What if Organization X teamed up with those influential figures to target Gu Fan first? Then Gu Fan would be caught between two fronts, black and white, and it would likely be another tough battle.
Gu Fan shook his head, believing that as long as Organization X and the influential figures were not fools, they absolutely wouldn’t do such a thing. Their camps were fundamentally opposed, and Gu Fan served as a balance point, a buffer. No matter how bad the battle became between the two sides, as long as Gu Fan was there, there was room for easing tensions. Who would be foolish enough to target Gu Fan?
Su Hui thought about it and saw reason in his argument, agreeing to try and see if it was possible to communicate again with those influential figures.
Still, Su Hui reminded Gu Fan to be cautious in his actions, since Gu Ling was still studying, and their family and friends were living ordinary lives, working to earn money and support their families; it was best to avoid offending those influential figures if possible.
Gu Fan acknowledged this, having considered that aspect already, and stated his principle: do not offend others unless offended, and everything will be in good order.
Now that it was settled, Gu Fan decided to visit the company. Lately, he had been leaving everything to Sister Li Shi, who had been bustling through all the chores, and he felt somewhat remorseful. He could almost picture Sister Li Shi being busy all day long, cursing at him.
"You’re going to the company?" Su Hui looked worried, as if she didn’t want Gu Fan to go.
Gu Fan found it strange: "What’s the matter? Is there a problem?"
Su Hui looked somewhat embarrassed and hurriedly shook her head: "No, nothing, just asking."
Gu Fan just acknowledged with an "Oh," didn’t think much of it, and then he left. He didn’t notice the look of disappointment on Su Hui’s face.
As soon as Gu Fan stepped out of the house, he saw Gu Ling coming towards him. Her light steps, her sunny and optimistic smile, and her pure appearance felt like a refreshing stream completely out of place in this world chasing fame and fortune.
Gu Ling immediately asked: "Brother, where are you going?"
"I’m going to the company to see if I can help Li Shi. It might be late when I return. Sister Su is at home, have dinner with her, don’t wait up for me," Gu Fan replied, not sensing anything amiss.
Gu Ling paused, and then asked: "Brother, does Sister Su know you’re going to see Sister Li Shi?"
"Yeah, I’ve told her," Gu Fan was somewhat puzzled and responded with a question of his own: "Why? Why do you ask this?"
Gu Ling seemed in a hurry: "BroBrother, never mind that, just answer my question. How did Sister Su react when you told her you’re going to see Sister Li Shi?"
"It seemed like she was worried. Is she afraid I’ll run into trouble? Those big shots shouldn’t target me so quickly," Gu Fan said with a puzzled look, which only made Gu Ling more anxious. She couldn’t help but curse: "Brother, you’ve been through stuff before, how can you just... Ah, you’re killing me."
"What do you mean?" Gu Fan was still clueless when he saw Gu Ling huffily going back.
Gu Fan was utterly befuddled, thinking about one Sister Su and one sister – what on earth was going on with these two women.
Hold on, Gu Fan remembered he was about to meet a third woman, hopefully, Li Shi would be a bit more normal.
But as soon as Gu Fan got to the company, Li Shi gave him a thorough scolding: Are you trying to work me to death? Is this company mine alone?
Gu Fan repeatedly apologized, admitted his mistakes, and after a lot of coaxing, he finally managed to calm Li Shi down.
In the end, in front of Li Shi, Gu Fan kept promising that he would devote more energy to the company’s management in the future as, despite being immortal, he still needed to spend money – he had to earn it somehow.
To show his sincerity, Gu Fan decided to treat Li Shi to a nice meal after work.
Naturally, during the meal, the two chatted, especially as Gu Fan shared his recent experiences and mentioned several times how Su Hui had tirelessly helped out.
But somehow, as Gu Fan mentioned Su Hui more and more, Li Shi’s reactions became increasingly indifferent. At last, Li Shi simply said: "Something came up, I have to go," and left Gu Fan sitting alone in the restaurant.
What was this all about? Gu Fan scratched his head in confusion. He couldn’t understand why, when things had been fine before, did she suddenly turn on him. What had he said wrong? He was sure he hadn’t from start to finish said that Su Hui was better than Li Shi.
In fact, Gu Fan was unaware that another woman had suffered quite a bit for him.
