Chapter 1534: Chapter 1534: From Allies to Enemies

Upon receiving reliable intelligence, this is a stronghold of Organization X, and many vampires have been gathered here.

Thus, the Hunter’s Guild and various other forces mobilized over a thousand people, warriors armed to the teeth split into four groups advancing towards the castle villa.

Daytime is the easiest time to restrict vampire activity, hence the Hunter’s Guild chose to strike during the day. One column of troops made an obvious advance along the highway in their cars, resoundingly.

The second column approached from the sea, intending to block Organization X’s escape routes.

The third and fourth columns quietly moved through the woods, planning to catch Organization X by surprise.

The intention of the Hunter’s Guild was clear: to completely eliminate everyone from Organization X at this secret base, and the orders were to kill without discussion. Because allowing even one vampire to escape means it could create innumerable other vampires, an endless slaughter.

However, when the first column of vehicles was approaching the gate, they were stopped by Gu Fan, who was alone.

"Everyone, get out of the vehicles immediately and be on the alert," Lie Han quickly ordered. Then he was the first to step out, his brows furrowed; he had seen Gu Fan’s photograph and knew who he was facing—the man who had breached Dark City.

Members of the Hunter’s Guild one by one got out, looking at Gu Fan with eyes full of awe. They had long heard of Gu Fan, regarding him as a hero, never expecting to encounter such a remarkable person today.

Lie Han then asked, "If I’m not mistaken, you must be Gu Fan."

"Correct, it’s me." Gu Fan spoke amicably, "Friends from the Hunter’s Guild, I have fought alongside you before. We breached Dark City together, so I am not your enemy. Please rest assured."

Hearing this, everyone was overjoyed, feeling that with Gu Fan there, the battle would surely be without problems.

Lie Han seemed puzzled, "We received reliable information that this is Organization X’s stronghold, thus we are here to clean up the remnants of Organization X. It seems you’ve arrived before us; does this imply that you’ve already taken care of Organization X?"

Upon hearing this, everyone from the Hunter’s Guild looked at Gu Fan with hopeful eyes, wishing for their hero to live up to their expectations.

Gu Fan chuckled dryly, "Your intelligence is very accurate. Indeed, there is a secret base of Organization X here with many of their people. However, I came here as a guest, not to fight."

Lie Han’s brows furrowed, and the members of the Hunter’s Guild were also showing puzzled expressions. According to rumors, Gu Fan and Organization X were arch-enemies; how could their relationship have improved?

Gu Fan explained, "I know why you’ve come here, and I ask that you consider my position and not make things difficult for this place."

"What do you mean, do you want to speak on behalf of these harmful scoundrels?" Lie Han was angered, and the other members of the Hunter’s Guild also wore expressions of disappointment and hatred.

Feeling the tension about to ignite, Gu Fan hurriedly added, "In truth, within Organization X there are also good people forced into their roles, who aspire to live a peaceful life during Organization X’s weakened state. They never intended to harm anyone, so..."

Lie Han loudly interjected, "There are vampires in there, aren’t there? As long as there are vampires, they will surely harm people. Gu Fan, you should be well aware of this. Why still advocate on the vampires’ behalf?"

"Indeed, Gu Fan, you should be as committed to justice as we are. Why defend these harmful beings?" Members of the Hunter’s Guild were indignant, their criticisms forceful, as if Gu Fan had committed an unforgiveable act.

"To be honest, I’ve also spent many years in conflict and warfare, coming to realize that force cannot resolve the core issues. We need communication to..." Gu Fan wanted to share some grand principles but found himself met by pairs of angry eyes.

Someone, full of righteous indignation, shouted, "Communication, how lightly you speak of it! When Organization X, in their prime, brutally oppressed the weak without restraint, how many people knelt and begged them to no avail... Now that Organization X is declined, they want to negotiate with us, well, to hell with negotiations!"

"This..." Gu Fan felt the difficulty of swaying the group’s mindset. After much thought, he could only say, "Has Irina arrived? If not, please relay a message for me. I wish to have a proper discussion with your boss."

Lie Han’s expression darkened, "Our boss said there’s nothing to discuss with vampires."

"Hates Organization X more than me?" Gu Fan suddenly recalled Helen’s words: the Hunter’s Guild dared to confront Organization X so boldly because most of the guild’s friends and families were killed by Organization X—a deep grudge not easily set aside.

Hate is not easily dissolved, and the war between Organization X and the Hunter’s Guild is to the death; blame lies on Organization X’s heavy past sins.

Gu Fan sighed, "Everyone, I know why you hate Organization X so much. I’ve also lost important people; I understand your feelings. But this endless battle, pushing vampires into a corner, will only make them more ferocious, endangering many innocents. As champions of justice, that’s not what you want to see, right?"

After hearing this, the Hunter’s Guild looked at each other, some hesitating, as if considering Gu Fan’s point.

Lie Han scornfully replied, "What are you implying? Are you saying that if we don’t corner the vampires, they will spare the innocents? Gu Fan, are you unaware of how many people are victimized by vampires every year?"

"I don’t know the number, but I’m aware that fighting and killing won’t solve the root problem. Vampires can’t be exterminated through force. Instead of using violence against vampires, we have to change them." Gu Fan spoke righteously, only to face collective mockery from the Hunter’s Guild, "Gu Fan, I’ve heard that you’re both wise and brave, possessing extraordinary abilities. Yet you’re so naive to believe you can change vampires. Vampires not drinking blood—is that what you expect? For them to drink milk like us?"

"This..." Gu Fan found himself at a loss for words, unsure how to persuade them anymore.

Suddenly, a gunshot rang in the distance, startling Gu Fan. It was closely followed by a second and third shot.

When the gunfire became dense and filled the sky, it signalled the outbreak of a battle, the situation beginning to spiral out of control.

The Hunter’s Guild knew immediately what was happening; the other two columns had already engaged in combat, and it was time for them to rush to provide backup.

However, Gu Fan remained blocking the road, still not letting them pass, which infuriated the members of the Hunter’s Guild, erasing any previous respect they held.
