Chapter 1453: Chapter 1453: You’ve Arrested the Wrong Person

What is a crisis? It’s an opportunity hidden within danger. For Gu Fan and Li Shi, this is precisely such a crisis.

Li Shi has fallen into Catherine’s hands, and is in constant danger. Now, Gu Fan is hiding close to Catherine, which effectively means being close to Li Shi and presents a greater opportunity to rescue her than ever before.

In the dead of night, Gu Fan kept watch in the nightclub, appearing utterly loyal and dedicated to his duties. In truth, he was afraid that once he left, Li Shi would suffer inhumane treatment.

While Gu Fan was thinking about how to rescue Li Shi, Catherine suddenly stepped out of the room, her expression stern and serious.

"What’s the matter, Lady Catherine?" Gu Fan was very nervous, sensing from Catherine’s expression that something serious had happened.

As she walked, Catherine spoke, "I sent people to clean up Li’s house, and on the way, they encountered Gu Fan. I never expected him to actually be in Dark City."

Hearing this, Gu Fan tensed up, roughly guessing what had happened. He surmised that Ouyang Jin didn’t want his presence to jeopardize the men with glasses, so Ouyang Jin chose to stay at Li’s house, which was vacant since Li had left, at least for a short time.

However, Ouyang Jin didn’t expect to encounter Catherine’s subordinates on the road, which escalated the situation.

When the subordinates reported finding Gu Fan, Catherine was ecstatic. She ordered her subordinates to capture him alive and keep the matter quiet, wanting to take all the credit for herself.

Gu Fan knew Ouyang Jin was in trouble, likely unable to escape. Since Catherine wanted him alive, Ouyang Jin wouldn’t be in mortal danger, but Li Shi, having possibly lost her value in Catherine’s eyes, was in a precarious position.

Seizing the moment when Catherine took most of her people out, Gu Fan planned to forcefully take Li Shi away.

Suddenly, Catherine turned back, looking at the motionless Gu Fan, somewhat annoyed, "What are you standing there for? Hurry up and come here."

"Oh, okay." Gu Fan lamented inwardly, fearing that this rare opportunity was about to slip away.

Several cars were already parked at the front of the nightclub. Gu Fan and Catherine got into one of them, heading toward Li’s residence.

On the road, Catherine couldn’t help but suspect something, asking Gu Fan, "Don’t you think it’s strange? We captured Li Shi and then Gu Fan appeared. Can it really be such a coincidence?"

"It might really be a coincidence." Gu Fan felt uneasy inside, unsure if Ouyang Jin had managed to escape.

At that moment, another subordinate came to report, saying they were in pursuit; Gu Fan was fast, but they were keeping up and had informed Catherine of the route.

Catherine immediately checked the nearby map and ordered her people to split up and block all possible escape routes for Ouyang Jin.

Gu Fan also looked at the map and realized the situation was not optimistic. Based on the recent reports, the area where Ouyang Jin was located had few side roads, making it difficult to shake off the pursuers. Moreover, members of Organization X often exercised, definitely giving them a physical edge over Ouyang Jin.

Dark City wasn’t large, and soon the car arrived. Catherine, Gu Fan, and three others got out just in time to see Ouyang Jin running towards them.

Seeing that his pursuers were from Organization X, Ouyang Jin instantly knew he was in trouble and quickly turned to go back the way he came.

"Don’t let him get away!" commanded Catherine, and everyone immediately gave chase, with Gu Fan pushing hardest, running at the forefront.

Gu Fan knew that if anyone else caught Ouyang Jin, he truly wouldn’t be able to escape. Therefore, Gu Fan had to get to Ouyang Jin first to help him break free.

Gu Fan pursued his target, a mental map of the surroundings materialized in his mind as he thought of ways to escape from here.

Luckily, Catherine, eager to take all the credit, hadn’t alerted other members of Organization X. Otherwise, not only would Ouyang Jin have had no chance of escaping tonight, but Gu Fan wouldn’t have been able to escape either.

After chasing for a while, Gu Fan saw Ouyang Jin already exhausted, leaning against a wall. Gu Fan approached and signaled with his eyes that Ouyang Jin should hurry and escape, or it would be too late.

Ouyang Jin looked back, utterly worn out, unable to run any further.

At that moment, several people appeared at one end of the alley, and several more at the other. Both ends were completely blocked, making it impossible for Ouyang Jin to escape even if he could run.

Instantly, Gu Fan made his move and pressed Ouyang Jin to the ground, then shouted loudly, "I’ve caught him, I’ve caught him."

Ouyang Jin gave a bitter smile, "Buddy, I know you’re acting, but please be more gentle. If you injure me, the cost is going to multiply."

Hearing this, Gu Fan maintained a calm exterior but quickly eased his grip.

The others, seeing Gu Fan seemingly taking the credit, were simultaneously angry, hateful, and regretful.

Soon, Catherine arrived and seeing Ouyang Jin tied up, she compared his face to a photo and found it to be an exact match.

Catherine was almost in disbelief, almost cheering with joy. This was a significant achievement.

"Wait a minute, it can’t be that easy." Catherine had heard of Gu Fan and knew he was tough to deal with. How could he be so easily captured today? Could they have caught the wrong person?

Under Catherine’s repeated questioning, Ouyang Jin admitted that he was Gu Fan.

Catherine still couldn’t believe it: "I’ve heard Gu Fan is highly skilled. How could you be captured by us so easily?"

"Do you really wish I had resisted?" Ouyang Jin retorted righteously, making Catherine suddenly feel uneasy. Her instinct told her that things were not so simple, and she needed to be cautious.

However, Catherine, eager to achieve a merit, ignored the rest and ordered her men to tighten Ouyang Jin’s restraints and escort him back.

Gu Fan quickly tried to claim credit: "Lady Catherine, capturing Gu Fan was my doing, don’t forget me."

"Of course not." Catherine responded, her eyes not on Gu Fan, but fixed on Ouyang Jin, as if she was profoundly interested in him.

Gu Fan cautiously asked Catherine, "May I ask, Lady Catherine, how do you plan to deal with Gu Fan? Will you hand him over to Organization X immediately?"

Catherine’s mouth curved into an anticipatory smile, "No, no rush to hand him over."

Seeing Catherine like this, Gu Fan felt a sudden unease, as he had seen this expression before. Every time Catherine was about to embrace someone, it was with this look.

"Oh my God, could it be..." Gu Fan thought, wondering whether this would turn out to be a blessing or a curse for Ouyang Jin.

Now, Gu Fan didn’t want to think too much. The number of people to rescue had again increased from one to two. He had to figure out how to save both at the same time. Time was truly of the essence.
