Chapter 1450: Chapter 1450: Fishing in Troubled Waters Well

Patrol squads either received orders to pursue Hai or Xue Yin, or headed to defend the Dark Door, with teams rushing towards the battleground on the streets of Dark City.

Following the plan, Gu Fan, Su Hui, and the others donned the uniforms of a patrol squad and disguised themselves as members, rushing towards the Dark Door.

Gu Fan and Li displayed their credentials, indicating they were from Organization X, which reassured the people at the Dark Door; everyone was on the same side amid such severe circumstances, with each additional person contributing extra strength.

More and more squads ordered to provide support kept arriving, and with Hai and Xue Yin already attacking, no one checked the credentials of Su Hui and the others; the city’s guards began arranging their defense to confront the enemy.

Hai and Xue Yin charged with full force, their momentum like a rainbow, fiercely fighting. The power of these two was no small matter, they knocked the fearless front-row guards into disarray in an instant.

Meanwhile, within the command center in the Tower of Darkness, eyes glued to the monitors, the tension was palpable. They believed that with the manpower on hand they could hold off the attackers for a short period, enough to wait for reinforcements to secure a victory.

Xue Wang also felt that it was improbable for Hai and Xue Yin to break through the encirclement unaided, but there was one lingering doubt troubling him.

That was about Experiment No. 8—didn’t Experiment No. 7 want to escape with Experiment No. 8? Were not Experiment No. 7 and Experiment No. 8 close as brothers? Did he really intend to leave Experiment No. 8 behind?

Suddenly, the screen went black as if the surveillance had been sabotaged, leaving everyone clueless about the current situation at the Dark Door.

Xue Wang panicked; he took matters into his own hands and led a team out, only trusting the situation when he was personally involved.

When Xue Wang arrived, the area around the Dark Door was chaotic; most of the guards lay on the ground groaning, and Hai and Xue Yin were nowhere to be seen.

"What exactly happened here?" Xue Wang furiously grabbed a guard by the collar and loudly demanded answers.

A guard responded, stating that originally everyone could have held the line together, but somehow, in the chaos, there were coordination failures where individuals accidentally injured their own people, inadvertently aiding Experiment No. 7 and Experiment No. 9’s escape.

For instance, numerous vampire warriors had almost subdued Hai, but one careless bump threw Hai and several vampires into disarray—examples like this were plenty.

Hearing this, Xue Wang was so enraged he almost hit someone, but he refrained, attributing it to a bunch of fools trying to outdo each other for credit.

"Send people to pursue immediately!" Xue Wang bellowed. Several patrol squads promptly obeyed the command and rushed out, unknowingly playing right into Gu Fan and the others’ hands.

Among those squads were Su Hui and the others in disguise, serving as members of Organization X under Xue Wang’s orders, now rightfully leaving Dark City.

Once Su Hui and the group left the Dark City, they immediately reunited with the already escaped Hai and Xue Yin, who then changed into patrol squad uniforms, all pretending to be on a mission to search the area.

How could Organization X imagine that those they sent to capture were precisely those they were desperately trying to apprehend?

Now Xue Wang was terribly grim, a formidable enemy surrounded him on all sides, including hunters, masked individuals, and big bosses; now with Hai and Xue Yin added to the mix, the situation grew increasingly grim.

Elsewhere, inside Dark City, Gu Fan and Ouyang Jin returned to their temporary residence.

Gu Fan wouldn’t leave before rescuing Li Shi.

Ouyang Jin was rather unlucky; he was knocked over in the chaos and upon getting up, found everyone dressed identically and had no idea where his teammates were.

Fortunately, Gu Fan found Ouyang Jin in time and took him away; letting Ouyang Jin walk out of Dark City alone at a time like this would undoubtedly raise suspicions and he might be captured by Organization X before reuniting with Su Hui and the others.

"Everyone else escaped, why am I so unlucky to be stuck with you?" Ouyang Jin complained bitterly, "The worst part is, you show no sympathy and won’t even allow me to raise my price."

"Alright, alright, once we successfully escape, you can raise the price as much as you want," Gu Fan replied while carefully checking the window to make sure no one was following them.

Ouyang Jin remembered something, "To get those patrol squad uniforms, you attacked a patrol squad; what if that patrol squad is discovered later, could you and Li be identified?"

Gu Fan responded, "Hai is quite decisive; he took care of them all, that patrol squad won’t be speaking anymore."

"My God, having someone so ruthless around is really convenient," Ouyang Jin remarked, then felt it a bit cruel, but then thought, what did it matter, Organization X was such an evil presence, who knows what injustices they had committed.

Gu Fan agreed with this viewpoint; once you join Organization X, regardless if you have done harm or not, while you work for Organization X, you have to bear some risks and consequences.

It’s like going to war, even if you’re just a soldier following orders to fight, you are innocent, you don’t wish for this, but once on the battlefield, it’s either kill or be killed, and bullets don’t discriminate.

When these people followed orders from Organization X to confront Gu Fan’s group, they posed a threat to Gu Fan and the others; regardless of how reluctant or helpless they felt behind the scenes, it wasn’t an excuse to absolve them.

If you only care about your own survival, only focus on completing the mission, regardless of whether the mission harms others, when you disregard the life and death of others, you are no longer innocent.

Gu Fan sighed; though he reasoned thus, when it came time to actually eliminate these patrol squad members under control, he still couldn’t bring himself to do it.

No matter how much Gu Fan tried to justify to himself that it was the right thing, no matter how he told himself that these people wouldn’t be grateful if let go, that they would betray him, no matter how he told himself that he had already killed vampires and it wasn’t a big deal since these people were also from Organization X, ultimately Gu Fan couldn’t bear it.

Finally, it was Hai who took action, and he even said that this kind of dirty work suited people like him and wasn’t something Gu Fan and the others should do. Because Hai didn’t want his brother’s friend to end up like him, to the extent that even Jie might be influenced.
