Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 144: Absolute Crush
Chapter 144: Chapter 144: Absolute Crush
Indeed, many more ogres broke through the layers of soil overhead and jumped downwards. One ogre pounced towards the spot where Leng Le had just stood. If Leng Le hadn’t stepped back, she would’ve been the ogre’s snack.
"Damn it!" Leng Le, who had been trained before, activated the weapon attached to her shoes. A sharp blade shot out from the tip of her shoe. She then kicked out, piercing the ogre’s neck directly.
If one-on-one, Leng Le would find it difficult to defeat the ogre despite her skill. However, the key was that the ogres, after their jump from above and the impact upon landing, had all their actions slowed. Leng Le grabbed this opportunity and took down the enemy in one move.
But while Leng Le was able to react and seize the opportunity, other people couldn’t. Facing the increasing number of emerging ogres, many were knocked off guard by the falling ogres, quickly torn to shreds before they could understand what was happening.
Despite everyone knowing that ogres are afraid of bright light, it was of no use. Your flashlight either illuminated the ogres leaping from above, or it was directed at the ogres on the ground to keep them at bay. Either way, there was a trade-off.
The situation began to worsen. Su Hui quickly shouted, "Everyone don’t scatter, back to back, gather together."
Hearing this, the different factions no longer cared about their differences and cooperated. They banned together, leaning on one another, some in charge of shining the lights around, some shining lights above. This barely pulled them out of their unfavorable situation.
The ogres couldn’t pounce on those below from their jump from above nor from the ground due to the bright lights, aggravating them. They began howling angrily.
Due to the bright light directly shining at them, the ogres were unable to look straight and were knocked down by Ouyang Jin with a shove. Ouyang Jin then said, "Don’t just defend. If we don’t eliminate these ogres, we won’t be able to leave."
Everyone knew this. So while being careful of ogres that could jump down at any moment, they also attempted to eliminate as many ogres as possible after suppressing them with bright light.
Suddenly, a series of crackling noises that clearly came from a mechanism’s rotation pulled everyone’s attention. The mechanism seemed rather dangerous given how loud it was.
The scene was chaotic and nobody knew who accidentally triggered the mechanism. Su Hui gritted her teeth, hoping the situation wouldn’t get too bad.
The middle of the room slowly opened, revealing a pitch-black pit. It was as if they had opened an entrance to hell which made everyone’s nerves tense up, not knowing what would come out next.
Then, under the push of the mechanism, a large iron ball was lifted. The diameter of the ball was about six meters and it looked intimidating. Su Hui seemed to realize what was about to happen and quickly shouted, "Quickly, open the front and the back door."
"What’s the matter, just a large iron ball, it won’t move. What’s there to fear?" Some felt that Su Hui was overreacting. The terrain suggested it would be difficult for the iron ball to start rolling. Even if it did, it would hit the surrounding walls and stop. They believed most people could dodge it easily and that the biggest threat was still the ogres.
However, everyone was too optimistic. Su Hui had reason to believe that there was no way the situation would be that simple since the mechanism was triggered, likely putting everyone including the ogres at risk.
"Hold on, am I hallucinating, or did this room tilt a little?" Jie’s words made everyone’s heart sink, as many also felt the shift.
"Has it begun?" Su Hui stared at the large iron ball. She also felt the room tilting and as it tilted, the iron ball began to move, slowly rolling towards the direction of the tilt.
Before the iron ball could gather speed, Su Hui already began to yell, "What are you all waiting for? Run!"
Now everyone realized the situation had worsened. They scattered in all directions, disregarding their formation and the threat of the ogres. Even the ogres felt threatened by the aura of the rolling iron ball and were scared.
The angle of the room tilt increased, the speed of the rolling iron ball also accelerated. However, at first, it didn’t hit anyone but forcefully slammed into the wall.
Having a narrow escape, Su Hui didn’t let out a sigh of relief. She was running towards a door, hoping to open it fast, because she knew that this was probably just the beginning of the mechanism’s operation.
Just then, the room’s angle of tilt began to change again and the speed of its tilt increased. As a result, the speed of the iron ball rolling also sped up, quickly rolling towards the direction of the tilt.
This time an ogre failed to dodge in time, getting directly crushed by the iron ball. Its scream sent chills down everyone’s spine.
"You gotta be kidding." Everyone could feel a great crisis looming over them. They all rushed towards the door, but the room’s tilting speed was too rapid, no one could keep their balance and they fell over.
The large iron ball rolled with high speed towards the tilted angle, crushing everything in its path, whether they were ogres or humans. There was no discrimination; everyone was treated the same way.
Nobody dared to look at the bloody mess left behind in the aftermath of the crushing. The sight was too horrific and no one had the capacity to notice; everyone was too busy trying to survive.
The room was tilting faster and faster, swaying drastically in all directions. It felt like being in a small boat overcoming monstrous waves, making it impossible for anyone to keep their balance. Stand up and fall, stand up and fall again.
Su Hui walked close to the wall; at least there was something to hold onto and it helped keep her steady. She was finding it hard to take care of herself amidst the disarray. With humans and ogres running all over the place and the poor lighting in the room, she had no chance of finding her companions.
"Not more trouble, please..." Su Hui felt her way along the wall, trying to reach the door. Suddenly, an ogre sprang up in front of her and bared its teeth. However, the iron ball came rolling straight at it, crashing the ogre into the wall.
Having seen this happen, even Su Hui, who had been through many such incidents, was terrified. She did not want to get hit by the iron ball. However, the iron ball was rolling towards her, she made a quick dive sideways and narrowly avoided it.
As the room continued to tilt from side to side, the iron ball rolled and crashed wildly, crushing an uncountable number of people and ogres. The room was filled with cries of despair.
If agility had to be measured, without a doubt, the ogres were the most agile. Even they didn’t stand a chance in the constantly tilting room. No sooner did they rush forward, the room would tilt in the opposite direction throwing them back. Some of them didn’t even have a chance to steady themselves and would tumble head over heels.
Even though the ogres had sharp claws that could grip the floor, they found it hard to move around. Out of options, they could only watch the iron ball roll towards them and cry out in horror.
Jie had several narrow escapes from death, barely avoiding being crushed by the iron ball. He couldn’t help commenting, "If Lu Yi were here, he would definitely be glad that there’s only one iron ball. If there were two, it would be even worse."
Just as Jie finished speaking, the room stopped tilting and the iron ball came to a halt. Everything returned to calm. Just when everyone believed that the mechanization had stopped working and that they were safe, they heard a clicking sound in the distance. Suddenly, the atmosphere changed and everyone felt a sense of impending danger.
Before their horrified eyes, the second iron ball was hoisted up. Jie, exasperated, gave himself a smack. With Lu Yi absent, it seemed Jie had now become the doomsayer.
"Go! Run to the gates now!" Su Hui was the first to react and rushed towards the gates. The others finally sobered and ran towards the only route of survival.
Just as everyone was about to reach the gates, the room abruptly tilted. The sudden movement caused everyone’s bodies to lose balance causing some to fall backwards and others on their sides.
"Honestly, this isn’t fun at all," Jie complained. He was closest to the gates but after tumbling and crawling, he found himself farther away than when he started. His progress had been for naught. As he was about to rant, the iron ball rolled past just inches away from his nose, scaring the life out of him.
With each swing of the room, the two iron balls rolled around indiscriminately. They crushed anything and everything, heedless of their pleas for mercy. Surrounded by cry-filled chaos, there was little anyone could do to combat this.
Leng Le and Hai used tools to shoot an arrow onto the ceiling and used the rope to suspend themselves upward. This helped them avoid being crushed by the iron ball.
However, not many people had these tools. Only Leng Le, Hai and their subordinates did; the others could only pray for their survival.
Once Hai was in mid-air, he watched the horror unfold beneath him. The sight was ghastly. No one knew how many lives were lost under the ruthless rolling and crushing of the iron balls.
"Nothing better go wrong..." Hai started looking for Jie amidst the clutter, but it was hard to find a single person in the chaotic scene. This made Hai very anxious.
Suddenly, Hai heard a familiar voice. Regardless of who it was, he took off from the wall and due to the force, began to walk along the wall, controlling the length of his rope, making sure he avoided coming in contact with the iron balls. It felt like walking on a rooftop.
Seeing the iron ball just about to hit Jie, Hai’s protective instincts kicked in. He kicked the wall to increase his momentum and swayed towards the iron ball.
"Get out of here!" Hai kicked the iron ball, using the strength and momentum of his own body, changed the direction of the rolling ball just in time; thus, saving Jie’s life.
"That was close! Way too close!" Jie wanted to thank the person who saved him but did not know who it was. Little did he know that the man in the mask, who had just saved his life, was his own brother. If he had known that, he would have been speechless.
