Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 1419: Narrow Road Meeting
Chapter 1419: Chapter 1419: Narrow Road Meeting
Many looked to the team leader, all hoping for him to continue making the right decisions; after all, everyone was afraid and didn’t want to follow in the footsteps of the fifth team.
However, contrary to expectations, the team leader actually wanted to pick up the pace and hurry to the site of the fifth team’s disaster.
Everyone didn’t understand. What was the rush for? Weren’t they afraid of encountering terrible enemies?
Gu Fan understood why the team leader wanted to do this. He believed the Xue Clan also knew about the fifth team’s incident and would send vampires there too. If anyone else dawdled over there, it would be a clear sign of cowardice, and Organization X was harsh on the cowardly.
At that moment, Xue Long commanded all teams to immediately head to that location without a moment’s delay.
So, under the team leader’s guidance, everyone quickened their pace and started to jog.
Along the way, they couldn’t help but imagine the number of enemies, just how formidable they were, and what to do if they encountered them—whether to run away immediately or lie on the ground and play dead.
Someone asked Gu Fan and Li about the appearance of the enemy and their capabilities since both had narrowly escaped death in a battle with the enemy last time.
Just as Gu Fan was about to answer, screams of agony erupted from the walkie-talkie once again.
"Hello, hello, can you hear me? We are team four, we’ve been ambushed, requesting support... ah..."
The sound of gunshots mixed with cries of agony didn’t last long, and then team four was silent.
A chill ran through everyone’s heart. Following the fifth team, the fourth team too was annihilated in a short span, a testament to the strength of the enemy.
However, Gu Fan considered another problem. Looking at the map, he noticed that the locations of the two teams didn’t match up at all; the fifth team’s disaster site was a bit behind, while the fourth team’s site was a bit ahead.
The team leader was also analyzing the map, puzzled as to why there was such a significant distance between the two locations.
Li thought, "Perhaps after wiping out the fifth team, the enemy knew they had drawn our attention, so they retreated instead of moving forward. Then on their retreat, they encountered the fourth team."
Many agreed with Li’s point of view, feeling sure that after eliminating the fifth team, the enemy knew Organization X would send forces their way, so they did not want to be at a disadvantage and chose to retreat rather than advance.
Gu Fan considered this possibility as well. He connected the two teams’ disaster sites with a straight line, estimating the approximate distance and timing, and realized something: in such a short time, even the vampires would struggle to cover such a long distance.
"What do you mean?" Many looked at Gu Fan in terror, sensing that something terrible was about to be announced.
Gu Fan didn’t want to say it, but from the current situation, either the enemy had split into two groups or, in fact, they were facing more than just the Hunter’s Guild, but other enemies as well.
Everyone’s hearts thumped wildly, filled with unease, and they even began to tremble faintly.
The team leader was confirming the next move with his superiors as they were closer to the location of the fourth team’s incident, so they were instructed to proceed there.
Reluctantly, only their team had been ordered to go, while the other two teams and the vampires had all headed to the site of the fifth team’s disaster.
Gu Fan said, "Right now, we can only pray our luck holds out, and by the time we arrive, the enemy has already left. And if we’re the only ones going, we can afford to slow down a bit."
Upon hearing this, everyone thought it made sense; even delaying by half an hour wouldn’t risk being accused of cowardice for intentional tardiness.
The team leader nodded and then continued to lead the way.
They didn’t travel quickly, moving forward cautiously, now inspecting one side and then another, as if they expected an ambush at any moment. What should have been an hour’s journey was dragged out to two hours.
When they reached the site of the fourth team’s massacre, they were all horrified. The scene was too gruesome for words as everyone from the fourth team was torn to shreds, with limbs and flesh scattered everywhere, and their final gazes locked in terror.
To everyone’s memory, only wild beasts and vampires were capable of such brutality. They wondered if they had encountered one of these bloodthirsty creatures.
The team leader dismissed this assumption. No animal roars had been heard over the walkie-talkie, so it wasn’t a blood creature encounter. Although the Hunter’s Guild hated vampires and Organization X, they had never resorted to such cruelty.
"Shouldn’t we confirm with the others?" Prompted by Gu Fan’s suggestion, the team leader immediately contacted the other teams.
The situation at the fifth team’s site was entirely different from the fourth team’s; none of the fifth team had been subjected to such brutality. Although they were wiped out, none were missing arms or legs, nor did they have expressions of great fear.
Realizing this difference, everyone looked at Gu Fan in horror, thinking he had hit the nail on the head—it must have been the work of two different groups of people.
The team leader reported the situation here, feeling this place was far more dangerous and beyond their capacity to handle at the moment, hoping for some vampires to take over.
The order from above was for the third team to continue searching, while the vampires were also on their way.
Upon receiving the orders, the third team’s morale sank. Continue the search? Who would dare? They all wanted to live to see home. Who knew what more terrifying things they might encounter if they kept searching?
But with the orders from above, the team leader could only lead his team and continue moving in one direction, now hoping only that their luck wouldn’t be too bad and that they wouldn’t run into them.
Li kept chanting for protection, "Divine spirits of heaven and earth, someone is waiting for me at home, I must live to return."
Gu Fan chuckled and nudged Li with his arm, teasing him, "You’re really something, actually getting involved with a vampire. No wonder you’re so keen to live to return."
Li retorted instantly, "Pah, I was a normal person before, okay? And what’s wrong with humans and vampires getting along? Isn’t it helpful for both sides to live in harmony? Humans understand vampires better, and vampires become friendlier to humans."
"I never expected your choice for a partner would aid in peace," Gu Fan responded, his feigned surprise tinged with insincerity.
However, as they say, what one fears, one encounters. They hadn’t proceeded much further when they began to hear footsteps from the dark forest.
"Everyone get ready!" The team leader immediately gave the order, and everyone quickly took up positions behind large trees, aiming their guns at the approaching shapes in the forest.
The other side obviously noticed the third team as well; they hid behind trees and adopted the same tactics as the third team.
