Chapter 1401: Chapter 1410 Full Alert

Tonight, Dark City was still clouded by a thick overcast that obscured stars, sun, and moonlight. A black vortex formed above the Tower of Darkness, as if the sky itself were twisting, as if the surrounding gravitational forces were being pulled and manipulated.

Gu Fan pushed open the window, looking out at the stormy weather, with thunder rumbling intermittently. He glanced at the Tower of Darkness and felt an uneasy premonition.

Roars—beastly roars. Gu Fan could hear them emanating from the Tower of Darkness; not even the thunderclaps could mask them.

"What on earth are you doing?" Gu Fan grew tense. The roars were so powerful, filled with anger and hate, the mere sound was enough to make Gu Fan’s heart leap with alarm.

Just as Gu Fan was about to cover his ears and go to sleep, an explosion suddenly burst from a section of the Tower of Darkness. Debris rained down to the ground, followed by dust billowing in the wind and rain.

Gu Fan kept his gaze fixed on the Tower of Darkness. In a moment, another monstrous roar echoed, drowning out the thunder, nearly surpassing its might.

A figure leaped straight down from the Tower of Darkness—it was enough to stun Gu Fan.

Almost simultaneously, a shrill alarm blared from the tower, waking all of Dark City’s residents.

Frowning, Gu Fan didn’t know what had happened, but having lived in Dark City for so long, this was the first time it had entered a state of emergency.

"Never mind that!" Gu Fan quickly closed the doors and windows, drew the curtains, turned off the lights, and then hid beside the window, holding his breath in concentration.

Suddenly, the landline rang, startling Gu Fan. He hastily picked it up, only to hear Catherine’s voice: "Tai, listen carefully. Stay at home and don’t go out, no matter what you hear. Do you understand?"

"Okay, I got it. Can I ask what happened?" Gu Fan was worried; he had a feeling that something major was going to happen tonight.

Catherine said, "Don’t inquire about things you shouldn’t. Just do as I told you."

Gu Fan glanced at the curtains and saw lights sweeping back and forth. Probably searchlights from Organization X searching for something?

"No matter. As long as they’re not looking for me." For some reason, Gu Fan felt a nervous thrill and was very tempted to go out and join the commotion.

Gu Fan pulled the curtains open just a bit more. My goodness, almost all of the lights outside were out, with only Dark City’s searchlights still in motion. The shrill alarm, along with the thunder, was disquieting.

Suddenly, several figures moved swiftly past Gu Fan’s window—by their skill, he knew they were vampires. They moved like lightning across the rooftops, searching for something.

"Forget it, deal with it yourselves. I’m going to sleep." Gu Fan closed the curtains and was about to go upstairs to rest when screams of terror came from outside. It seemed the vampires from earlier had encountered something.

Gu Fan’s heart raced with fear, yet he mustered the courage to go back to the window and cautiously lifted the curtain. Outside, it was pitch black, and nothing was visible.

Just as Gu Fan prayed for divine protection, he heard a ’clack’ from above, as if something had landed on the rooftop of his building, causing a sinking feeling in Gu Fan’s chest.

"Dear God, I hope I’m just overthinking this; it must be just my imagination." Gu Fan took a deep breath and tried to recalibrate his mindset.

Suddenly, something fell from the sky, crashed onto the ground, and also landed in front of the window, startling Gu Fan so much that he truly believed something was on his rooftop.

"Can’t be, can it? Such a coincidence?" Gu Fan thought it might just be that the thing was passing by, perhaps just checking out the scenery from the roof?

With a thunderous bang, the ceiling shuddered violently; clearly, the rooftop had been breached, and something had fallen into the second floor.

Gu Fan was currently in the living room on the first floor, hearing the noise from a small bedroom on the second floor—not too far away. If something had indeed broken in, Gu Fan feared trouble was imminent.

"What should I do?" Gu Fan didn’t know what kind of monster he was facing, and he felt uncertain.

Just then, noises of doors being pushed open came from the second floor; it seemed the thing was coming out of the small room.

Footsteps thudded overhead, and Gu Fan’s face darkened; the creature was already in the second-floor hallway, and by the sounds of it, was heading towards the staircase.

As Gu Fan was considering whether to make a direct escape, he then heard noises coming from the direction of the stairs.

"Damn it, you can even navigate stairs," Gu Fan quickly lifted the cushion from the sofa and hid in the storage space underneath, continuously praying to the heavens.

One step, two steps, three steps—the creature drew closer, and Gu Fan could feel it descending the stairs to the first floor, where he faintly heard its growling.

He did a quick recalculation; the vampires he had encountered earlier were dealt with instantly. Unfortunately, regarding the creature’s own terrifying nature, Gu Fan felt he definitely wasn’t a match for it.

But as the footsteps reached the living room, Gu Fan held his breath, not daring to move a muscle, wishing countless times that the creature would just leave, that it would go away quickly.

At that moment, something pressed down on the sofa cushion, causing a vibration that Gu Fan, hiding underneath, could distinctly feel. He sighed inwardly, "No please, my friend, I don’t want to fight tonight."

The cushion on the sofa was slowly lifted; it seemed the creature had discovered Gu Fan, and in that moment, his heart thumped as if it was lodged in his throat, Vajra Body Protection fully prepared.

Just then, the sounds of windows and doors be shattered continuously came through, accompanied by roars, and several vampires burst into the house and engaged in combat with the creature.

The cushion was put back down, and Gu Fan was once again engulfed in darkness. He listened to the noise of the fight outside, with relentless roars and sounds of things being destroyed, as if the battle was evenly matched.

Gu Fan had no time to mourn his place of residence or his furniture; he was focused on the fight.

There was a dull thud, resembling something striking the walls, causing the entire house to tremble under a terrifying force. Gu Fan grew worried; if the fight continued this way, he feared the house wouldn’t hold up.

Within a short time, the triumphant roars turned into fearful wails; the vampires were utterly defeated, some even shouting retreat, while the creature’s roaring grew more triumphant and defiant, the outcome determined rather quickly.

After a while longer, there was no more stirring outside—no roars, no sounds of combat, no vibrations of things being smashed; it seemed as if everything had left.

At this point, Gu Fan was extremely tense, unable to control the pounding of his heart; he could only stabilize his breathing. He didn’t dare to go out immediately to investigate; he needed to wait a bit longer to feel safe.
