Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 1366: A Flaw
Chapter 1366: Chapter 1366: A Flaw
That night, Gu Fan tossed and turned, unable to sleep. He pushed open the window to look outside, and seeing only a few people on the streets, he felt it was a good chance to take a gamble tonight.
So Gu Fan used his insomnia as an excuse, dragging Li out for a walk.
Li was very dissatisfied. While Gu Fan couldn’t sleep, he had been sleeping soundly, deeply enjoying his slumber, and now had to go out for some late-night snack?
The two wandered aimlessly around the small town, the deserted streets under dim street lights, the odd glances from the occasional passerby, coupled with the night breeze, always gave a feeling of being a foreigner, out of place in this land.
"Where are we even going?" Li yawned, looking sleep-deprived.
It was at this moment Gu Fan spotted a car repair shop by the roadside. Pointing at it, he said, "The last time we came by car, you mentioned there was a problem with it. I think we could get it checked."
Hearing this, Li perked up: "Right, what if the car breaks down halfway?"
The next day, Li and Gu Fan took the car to the repair shop to be fixed.
However, Li was unaware that this car repair shop had significant ties to Ouyang Jin. Gu Fan had already left a note for the shop assistant while Li wasn’t paying attention, instructing them to pass the message to Ouyang Jin.
The shop assistant dutifully entered the hotel and handed the note to Ouyang Jin.
Everyone was surprised to see that it was truly a note from Gu Fan, not expecting him to have come out of Dark City, and to be in this small town. As to what exactly had happened, Gu Fan hadn’t elaborated in the note, simply requesting a mobile phone be prepared for him.
Ouyang Jin handed a spare phone to the shop assistant and made sure to instruct them to discreetly give it to Gu Fan, also relaying that the cost of the phone would be added to the overall bill.
Seeing how Ouyang Jin was counting pennies, everyone started to worry. Previously, Ouyang Jin used risk as a pretext for raising prices, but it seemed that now he had thought of another method.
Ouyang Jin’s sly grin seemed to suggest that he was brewing a new plan for a price hike.
Irina couldn’t help but exclaim, "To think you all haven’t cut ties with such a person by now, how deep is your relationship really?"

In the evening, Gu Fan and Li went to check on the car, surprised to find it had already been fixed. Li was happy, deeming the work of the repair shop reliable.
Gu Fan pretended to pay, using the opportunity to take the mobile phone from the shop assistant and hide it in his jacket pocket.
"All set, let’s go," Li called to Gu Fan to get in the car, thinking it was just a simple car repair.
As Gu Fan got in the car with Li, his mind was busy figuring out how to shake Li off so he could contact his comrades.
It was then that Li suggested, "Since we’re here already, why not buy more stuff to take back? You know how expensive things are in Dark City."
"Sure," agreed Gu Fan, and they both arrived at the entrance to a small supermarket.
Li got out of the car, closed the door, and said, "Our funds are limited, so let’s only buy daily necessities, like toothpaste or towels, for instance."
Gu Fan smiled, "How about we buy a bit more, then sell it when we get back, make a quick buck?"
"Stop joking. Organization X strictly prohibits unauthorized purchases and sales. If discovered, even Catherine can’t save us," Li said, with a hint of fear, trying to convey to Gu Fan that this was no laughing matter.
"Alright, we’ll buy less then," Gu Fan had just finished speaking when he noticed Li giving him a suspicious look. So, Gu Fan asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Li commented, "Strange, you’ve been in Dark City for several years now. You should know about this rule, right?"
Gu Fan was taken aback, realizing this was a slip-up that could arouse suspicion. Thinking on his feet, he quickly explained, "Of course I know, but I wasn’t part of Organization X before, and I haven’t left Dark City since arriving, so I just thought that since we’re using Organization X’s identity and we have pass permits, maybe we could buy a bit more to take back. Won’t they search our car when we return?"
Li thought it made sense, Gu Fan having just joined Organization X, it was reasonable for him to not know certain things. So Li added, "We have entry permits, not cargo permits, so there is a difference."
Hearing Li’s explanation, Gu Fan feigned enlightenment: "I see, seems like there’s a lot I need to learn after just joining Organization X."
"Don’t worry, as long as you listen to me, you won’t make mistakes," Li said sincerely, treating Gu Fan as a trustworthy friend.
"Thanks!" Gu Fan felt Li’s sincerity and considered establishing a real friendship, but then Li said something that dismissed that notion.
"Let’s better think about how to take photos of those people, so we can report back," Li said, walking into the small supermarket.
Gu Fan followed, helping Li pick items from the shelves.
"Have you heard? There’s someone called Gu Fan causing headaches for Organization X. If we could take him out, we’d get promoted instantly, no more being underlings," Li mentioned.
Gu Fan was startled upon hearing this and asked, "Do you really want to get promoted?"
"Of course. If I get the chance to meet that Gu Fan, I’ll stab him myself. Riches and honour would be in our grasp in one fell swoop," Li said. After finishing, he looked back at Gu Fan with a penetrating gaze.
Gu Fan grew nervous, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"I’m thinking, when it comes down to it, do you want to help me? Together we could take out Gu Fan and get promoted. We can’t stay underlings forever," Li included his comrade in his considerations.
"Sure, I’ll definitely help you," Gu Fan put on an eager face, though the thought of taking himself down was a bit daunting.
If Li knew the person in front of him was Gu Fan, what would he think? He’d surely be so shocked, unable to close his jaw, then reflect on the embarrassing situation, conspiring with Gu Fan himself on how to assassinate Gu Fan.
And Li’s words also served as a wake-up call for Gu Fan. With the Destiny Stone Body Guard, no one else could harm Gu Fan, but what if Gu Fan targeted himself?
