Chapter 1320: The Enemy Remains the Enemy
Chapter 1320: Chapter 1320: The Enemy Remains the Enemy
Just as Gu Fan was about to kill his way back, a figure, braving the assault of mosquitoes and the burning of the fire sea, swiftly rushed toward this side.
Seeing Lin Xi unharmed, Gu Fan was so overjoyed that he lost himself and immediately embraced her, completely disregarding whether it was appropriate at the moment.
"Alright, no time for lovey-dovey, let’s run for our lives," Su Hui urged, and everyone began to retreat in haste.
With everyone’s concerted effort, the second ten-meter-wide fire sea was set up. The flames ignited instantly, turning the mosquitoes, which were fearlessly charging through the first fire sea, into ash.
Upon witnessing this scene, someone couldn’t help laughing, "We’ve set up two ten-meter-wide fire seas, I don’t believe these mosquitoes could get through that."
But Lin Xi cautioned, "Don’t underestimate them; there are too many of them, and they are fearlessly fierce. Two fire seas are not enough to stop them, at least three are needed."
Trusting Lin Xi’s suggestion, Gu Fan was preparing to rally everyone to set up a third fire sea when a loud buzzing sound suddenly came from behind them.
"Oh no, could it be from behind?" Gu Fan immediately ran towards the retreat path, shining a flashlight only to see countless mosquitoes flying over.
With their route cut off, everyone had nowhere to run. Su Hui quickly thought on her feet, kicking a petrol barrel over, and Irina instantly understood what Su Hui intended to do. She followed suit, pushing another petrol barrel away.
The two petrol barrels rolled towards the retreat path, heading straight for the incoming swarm of mosquitoes. Then, both Su Hui and Irina drew their guns and fired at the petrol barrels.
With a huge explosion, the petrol barrels blew up and flames erupted, knocking everyone to the ground and shattering the incoming mosquitoes.
"Is everyone okay!" Gu Fan was the first to get up, but his head was still ringing from the massive blast. The explosion affected them greatly, but thankfully Su Hui reacted quickly.
Su Hui was the second to rise, patting her head to regain some sense, then checked her own handiwork. Luckily, the explosion had not been too close, or it might have hurt their own group as well.
Irina felt a wave of fear in hindsight, as she had made that decision without thinking, simply following Su Hui’s lead. Had Su Hui’s judgment been wrong, they might not dare to contemplate what would have happened due to the proximity of the explosion.
"Is everyone alright!" Gu Fan called out while pulling Lin Xi up from the ground.
The others also gradually got up and surveyed their surroundings. What they saw was not reassuring—the passage was blocked at both ends by the fire sea and the mosquitoes, making both directions impassable.
The fire sea was holding back the pursuit of the mosquitoes but created another problem—the intense heat, combined with the consumption of oxygen during burning, made everyone feel extremely uncomfortable.
Sweat dripped from their foreheads, and Gu Fan found it increasingly difficult to breathe; it seemed like there was less and less air around them. The good news was that, affected by this, the mosquitoes also found it harder to advance and no longer posed a threat to Gu Fan and his group.
"Everyone, hang on a bit longer, let me recover some supernatural power," Lin Xi was very weak and in need of rest. However, the dire environment, the searing heat, and the lack of air all affected Lin Xi’s recovery process.
With no other choice, Gu Fan made a decision to prioritize Lin Xi’s recovery. He would protect Lin Xi and then let her use the last of her supernatural power to cast a small Protective Barrier around them.
Lin Xi understood what Gu Fan meant and did as he suggested.
"Guys, I’ll go ahead with Lin Xi, wait for me," called out Gu Fan, carrying Lin Xi. He let out a loud shout and then leaped forcefully over the fire sea.
It was just a brief moment, but Lin Xi, exhausted, could no longer maintain the Protective Barrier. Almost at the same instant Gu Fan crossed over the sea of fire, the Protective Barrier also vanished—it was truly dangerous.
Gu Fan found Lin Xi a place far from the sea of fire, and from there Lin Xi began to recuperate, restoring as much supernatural power as she could in a short time.
Now Gu Fan felt a bit better, but Su Hui and Irina, who were still trapped in the sea of fire, were really struggling. It felt like they were being roasted alive, and the air was growing even scarcer.
Seeing his companions’ pained expressions, Gu Fan was very anxious, but haste makes waste, so he could only rely on Lin Xi.
"Please give me three minutes, I just need three minutes," Lin Xi said. Although it sounded like a short time, in the current situation, each second was agonizing for Su Hui and Irina.
Those with weaker constitutions were already unable to endure the combination of high temperatures and lack of oxygen, collapsing one after another.
Gu Fan was silently counting, but only thirty seconds had passed, and Su Hui and Irina seemed like they were on the brink of total annihilation.
Worse was yet to come, as Lu Yi, who had retreated, came running back, with a large mantis that did not want to be his pet hot on his trail.
p due to maintaining the Protective Barrier, they couldn’t carry out both tasks simultaneously.
Miss Lin’s exhausted facial expression indicated an urgent situation, and Lin Xi desperately pleaded for three more minutes.
For Su Hui and Irina, even that short period was torturous, with every second stretching into an eternity as the high heat and lack of oxygen overwhelmed those with weaker builds and they began to collapse one by one.
Gu Fan anxiously began to count, but after a mere thirty seconds, Su Hui and Irina appeared as if they were facing complete annihilation. The worse situation appeared, and so came Lu Yi running back, chased by a giant mantis who didn’t want to be his pet.
Gu Fan was dumbfounded: "Man, I’ll let it go that I ran first, but you, you’ve gone and attracted the enemy back to us."
"What are you saying, I didn’t desert during a time of danger, I just wanted to persuade this fellow to come back and help us. But who’d have thought, it not only refused but also wants to kill us all, how is this fair?" Just as Lu Yi finished speaking, a scythe-like foreleg nearly grazed the back of his skull coming down, scaring Lu Yi into a sprint.
Accidentally, Lu Yi fell to the ground, but he reacted quickly. Knowing he had no time to dodge, he quickly flipped over and, at the same time, held his shield over his head.
The giant mantis’s scythe-like foreleg came down, and the sharp, unstoppable foreleg met the ancient shield from a Super Civilization, but could not penetrate it.
However, the strength of the giant mantis was too great, shaking Lu Yi’s arm numb, causing him to lose his grip on the shield.
At the critical moment, Gu Fan rushed over, a flying kick hitting the scythe-like foreleg and knocking it off course, sticking into the ground next to Lu Yi.
Gu Fan was about to shout a warning when he realized he didn’t need to. Lu Yi was already scrambling to his feet, running away.
"You’re good!" Gu Fan turned his attention back to the giant mantis, only to be sent flying into a wall by a sweeping scythe. The world spun and he felt unsafe, started to pace up and down the room while waiting.
The next day, he woke up earlier than usual. He confirmed the last plan, while at his side, Lin Xi sat, quietly healing.
