Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 131: Crazy Sand Snake
Chapter 131: Chapter 131: Crazy Sand Snake
The sandstorm was too fierce, quickly engulfing most of the mountain range, the wind howling and still rushing forward. Its momentum was like an ancient behemoth roaring, intending to destroy everything in the world."What should we do, should we keep fighting?" Lu Yi just finished asking when the twenty or so people on the other side hurried to escape, who would dare to stay?
Teacher Liu and Xu Haowen supported Professor Luo as they ran, but they were moving too slowly. In the blink of an eye, they saw the overwhelming sandstorm approaching, there was no possibility of outrunning it.
Ouyang Jin immediately shouted, "Head towards the cliff, hurry!"
Hearing this, not only Teacher Liu and Professor Luo but also many on the opposing side ran towards the cliff, seeking to use it as much as possible to withstand the attack of the sand
At this moment, Ouyang Jin saw Gu Fan and Su Hui were still chasing, seemingly reluctant to abandon their comrades, the problem was, they would likely be swallowed by the sandstorm before they could catch up.
"Never mind, I wish you good luck." Ouyang Jin immediately ran towards the camel which was their only hope if they were unable to outrun the sandstorm on foot. Although this hope was slim, they still had to try.
The few who had taken Du Jun, Lin Xi, Jie, and Qin Jia saw the approaching sandstorm and decided to risk everything, a little more persistence and they would reach the blasted cave.
However, they were slowed down by their captives, so they were quickly caught by Gu Fan and Su Hui. Then, with a few punches and kicks, they were taken down.
Gu Fan untied Jie and Du Jun, while Su Hui helped Qin Jia and Lin Xi. They were racing against time and facing a crisis.
"Oh my god, why is it so hard to untie these?" Gu Fan was already moving as quickly as possible, first helping Jie, then it was Du Jun’s turn.
"Hurry up, the sandstorm is coming!" Du Jun shouted while watching the impending sandstorm. It looked even more terrifying now that he was staring at it.
"I also want to go faster!" Gu Fan had not finished speaking when his voice was drowned out by the sandstorm. His visibility was instantly blocked, and he couldn’t see anything in this sand-filled environment.
Fortunately, the ropes were untied just as the wind and sand arrived. They all helped each other and prepared to leave, but the wind was too strong, and they, six in total, felt overwhelmed.
Even though everyone had prepared masks to cover their mouths and noses, and used goggles to protect their eyes, they could still hardly stand straight when faced with the blowing sand. Unable to see clearly and having no direction to move forward, Gu Fan had no idea how to deal with this situation and they felt anxious.
At this time, Gu Fan couldn’t help but thank Ouyang Jin for insisting that everyone carry masks and goggles, for fear of encountering a sandstorm. With these two items, they at least had a possibility of survival in the sandstorm.
However, apart from the sandstorm, the group of people seemed unwilling to give up and still wanted to capture them. This left Gu Fan feeling baffled, as the situation was so dire, they should be running for their lives instead of causing trouble.
That group didn’t care, they roughly estimated Gu Fan and the others’ location and seeing several blurred figures, they charged over. This forced Su Hui to engage in combat with them amidst the sandstorm.
As all their weapons were confiscated before they were bound, Lin Xi and Qin Jia no longer had their wolf repellent spray. The two females could only join hands and fight with their fists against the group.
"Damn it, they’re relentless." Gu Fan threw powerful punches, knocking one person to the ground. If Su Hui had seen it, she would have commended him. But now, she was too occupied, and the environment was extremely harsh.
Just as Gu Fan was struggling to cope, he was accidentally tackled from behind by an enemy, falling in a heap. Furthermore, his attacker strangled his neck, making it very uncomfortable.
The worst part was, another enemy rushed over to help, planning to unite their strength to take down Gu Fan. This put Gu Fan in an unprecedented crisis.
"No way!" Just as Gu Fan’s situation was becoming dire, a shadow suddenly popped out from the ground. It quickly rolled the person strangling Gu Fan’s neck away. The sound of the fearful howl was quickly drowned by the wind and sand.
He was finally saved. Gu Fan had a very uncomfortable feeling in his neck and didn’t understand what had just happened. Then he noticed that an enemy who was about ten steps away from him was standing still as if he were scared, trembling continuously.
Just as Gu Fan was preparing to fight, suddenly the sandstorm rose under the man’s feet. A shadow swept through and dragged the man under the sand.
All of this happened so fast that the man didn’t even have a chance to scream. Gu Fan didn’t see what it was, only saw the man struggle a bit before disappearing.
Gu Fan remembered what was mentioned in the notes of Ouyang Jin’s father, shadows darting through the sand under the obscured sky, along with the cries of companions.
"No way, we just had to run into this." Gu Fan was incredibly anxious, feeling that things weren’t looking good. If his group had come under attack, the others were likely not faring any better.
Despite the blinding sandstorm and reduced visibility, Gu Fan could still see several panicked figures running around chaotically and trying to escape.
Suddenly, a hand landed on Gu Fan’s shoulder, startling him. As his reflexes kicked in, he attempted to grab and twist the arm. However, the other party was stronger, flipping him around swiftly causing Gu Fan to cry out in pain. Without a doubt, the person was Su Hui.
Su Hui quickly let go of Gu Fan. Now was not the time to hold grudges over mistakes; the priority was escaping. Behind Su Hui were Du Jun, Lin Xi, and Qin Jia.
"We should regroup with the others quickly," Gu Fan spoke hastily. But before he could finish, a horrified scream pierced the air, sounding alarmingly close. Even the howling winds and swirling sands couldn’t muffle it.
No matter what kind of creatures the sandstorm concealed, Gu Fan and his group had no choice but to run for their lives. There was no time to worry about Lu Yi or Ouyang Jin; in such circumstances, all they could hope for was each other’s safety.
As they ran, they saw other shapes being swept away by some flying black figure. The sight fueled their fear and hurried their pace.
Gu Fan’s group consisted of eleven people, and there were fifty people guarding them, making a total of sixty-one people. Yet they were no match for the sandstorm, let alone the mysterious creatures hidden within it.
"Damn it, what on earth are those things?" Gu Fan feared, and so did the others. Screams of terror echoed around them. Moreover, the number of darting black shadows increased around them. These unknown creatures seemed to revel in the chaotic storm, hunting and killing freely.
In their frantic run, they collided head-on with another person. The impact knocked both down, and before Gu Fan could scold the other person for not watching where they were running, a horrifying scene unfolded.
The person had just sat down when the sand beneath him exploded upward. A serpent slithered out, coiling itself around its prey, and disappeared back into the desert. It all happened within a single breath.
"Did... Did that just..." Gu Fan’s shock was interrupted by Su Hui who hurried to help him up. "Looks like sand serpents. But I never thought they would be this large and fierce."
Gu Fan finally regained his senses. Knowing they couldn’t stay, he prepared to move. However, he halted mid-step, feeling something moving beneath the sand.
"Look out!" He pushed Su Hui, Lin Xi, Qin Jia, and Du Jun to the ground. Almost immediately, a sand serpent sprung up from beneath, narrowly missing them.
The serpent dived back into the desert as soon as it landed, leaving everyone pale with fright. Their luck was due to Gu Fan’s instinctive response.
Gu Fan felt a lingering sense of danger. These sand serpents were terrifying, springing up anytime, anywhere to ensnare their prey and drag them under the sand. They even used the sandstorm as a cover, making them unpredictable.
Many people were still running around in panic, but to no avail. One after another, they were targeted, bitten, ensnared, and carried away by the sand serpents.
"Wait, how can these sand serpents accurately locate their prey in such harsh conditions?" Gu Fan wondered. Hiding beneath the sand, they couldn’t see what was happening above unless...
Understanding dawned on Gu Fan, and he immediately ordered everyone to stay still. If his guess was correct, the vibrations from running would serve as a signal for the sand serpents hiding beneath.
Du Jun panicked, "Are you serious? You’re telling us to stay put? Do you know how dangerous it is right now?"
"Wherever we run, we’re in danger. Might as well take a chance." Gu Fan ventured, although it was only a conjecture, he couldn’t think of a better solution.
Su Hui also agreed with Gu Fan’s theory and decided to give it a try. She was the first to comply, standing still on the spot.
Lin Xi naturally supported Gu Fan’s decision, and since Qin Jia had become Lin Xi’s best friend, she stood with them as well. This left Du Jun confused as to why the three women were supporting Gu Fan and how he could be so lucky.
Out of options, Du Jun grudgingly complied and stood still. Together, they watched as the sand serpents targeted their prey around them, hunted them down at lightning speed and were serenaded by the chilling screams filled with fear and despair.
"It has to work. It just has to," Gu Fan hoped, standing still amidst the swirling sands. Everyone linked arms to brace themselves against the relentless storm. Even though the sandblasting was unbearable, the sensation of something scuttling beneath their feet was more terrifying.
Just as they feared that aliens might be the sand snakes, the sensation disappeared, presumably heading somewhere else, confirming Gu Fan’s hypothesis.
