Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 1271: Suddenly Going Mad

Chapter 1271: Chapter 1271: Suddenly Going Mad

Time was of the essence, so to find food and water faster, everyone split into two groups to search separately. They agreed to use blue signal flares upon finding anything and red flares if they encountered danger.

Lu Yi and Ouyang Jin were assigned to one team, which also included more than fifty mercenaries. Though they appeared strong and numerous, in reality, everyone was extremely cautious in their movements.

A few mercenaries murmured under their breath, "We’re really unlucky, not being in the same group as the one named Gu Fan."

"Yeah, and I’ve heard that the one named Lu Yi is a doomsayer. Every time he opens his mouth, trouble comes knocking. Being with him, our luck is just terrible."

Though the mercenaries spoke softly, Lu Yi had excellent hearing and was furious inside. He wanted to turn around and see which bastard was talking behind his back. It was way too much.

Just as Lu Yi was about to turn around, Ouyang Jin, quick-eyed and deft-handed, pushed him back and kindly reminded, "Forget it. Who hasn’t suffered a bit? Besides, you can’t beat all of them by yourself. Just accept your fate."

Lu Yi was not pleased and questioned, "What are you saying? Are you on my side or theirs?"

Ouyang Jin revealed a bitter expression, "Honestly, if I could, I really wouldn’t want to be on your side. I’d rather be a regular tour guide."

Seeing Ouyang Jin looking quite distressed, it was Lu Yi’s turn to offer some comfort, "Alright, don’t cry. I know knowing a doomsayer like me has made you suffer. But think about it, every time we’ve escaped danger, and every time you’ve made a fortune. With the money you earn from one of our jobs, you could work several years less."

His spirits lifted by these words, Ouyang Jin perked up, "Right, I’ve earned so much, I could change professions. As long as I stop being a guide, I won’t have to run into you guys."

"Big brother, must you be so quick to reveal your true feelings?" Lu Yi had just finished speaking when he heard someone from the front of the group shout, "Look, there’s water over there."

Everyone was invigorated and quickened their pace, rushing over.

In the dense forest there actually was a small lake, and the water was clear to the bottom, emitting a refreshing qi.

Some of the men couldn’t resist the urge to drink right away, only to be stopped by their companions.

"Be careful, there’s something wrong with this lake water." Lu Yi pointed to a few stone statues next to the small lake, and everyone’s gaze immediately followed his direction.

Then Lu Yi and Ouyang Jin looked around and found a few more statues, their faces turning pale at the sight.

These statues, with various heights, builds, ages, and genders, had differing expressions: some frightened, some puzzled, some crying out, some struggling. The lifelike craftsmanship was so exquisite that not even the world’s top stone sculptor could have matched it. They felt so real that people believed they could have been actual people.

According to information provided by Mo Yun, Organization X had sent a batch of vampires here to search for something. Halfway through, the vampires found a small lake; thirsty, they drank from it. Then, a shocking thing happened: the immortal vampires one by one turned into stone sculptures.

Even powerful vampires couldn’t resist it; this lake water was truly too dangerous. Gu Fan and Ouyang Jin, gazing at the clear surface, involuntarily swallowed their saliva.

A mercenary complained, "No way, the water we finally found can’t be drunk?"

"If you want to drink, be my guest, I certainly won’t," the rest were scared and kept their distance.

Lu Yi saw the hopeful looks in everyone’s eyes. They had been without water for a long time, parched and with dry tongues. And yet, with the water resource right before them, they couldn’t drink it—wasn’t this just adding to the frustration?

Ouyang Jin then said, "I know what you’re all thinking, but this water really can’t be drunk. We need to bypass it and find other water sources," and with that, Ouyang Jin started walking.

Many swallowed their saliva and chose to give up on this place, moving forward. Only a few couldn’t bear to leave the water resource and lingered.

"If you want to drink, drink, as long as you’re not afraid of dying," Lu Yi said with a hint of irony and jest, causing some discomfort among the listeners. Annoyed, they decided to stop thinking about drinking water from the lake and hurried to catch up with the group.

Ouyang Jin sped to the front of the group and spoke with a smug expression, "See? I merely applied a little trick, a bit of reverse psychology, and now everyone is obediently following us."

"Didn’t expect you had it in you," Ouyang Jin said with a touch of admiration, then added, "If only you weren’t a doomsayer, that would be even better."

Lu Yi exuded confidence, "How could that be? I don’t even know what to say now. We’ve already seen through the dangers of this little lake, and we definitely won’t drink from it unless our comrades push our heads down and force us, which is impossible."

Ouyang Jin nodded, "Yes, that’s indeed impossible. Seems like you can’t play the doomsayer this time."

"Of course not!" Lu Yi had just uttered his proud response when suddenly he heard a commotion within the crowd. Turning to look, he and Ouyang Jin saw two people fighting for some unknown reason.

Many were advising the pair to stop fighting, even trying to pull them apart, but to no avail.

One seemed to have had enough and didn’t want to fight anymore, while the other was still like a madman, trying to pounce and fight to the death.

In that moment, Lu Yi and Ouyang Jin arrived in time and asked, "What’s going on? Why are they fighting?"

Someone answered, "We’re not sure, they just suddenly started fighting."

The one who had been hit shouted, "I want to know why he hit me too. I was just walking, didn’t touch him, and he pounced on me like a mad dog wanting a bite."

Lu Yi and Ouyang Jin then looked at the other man who had suddenly started to hit, and found he really was like a rabid dog, snapping and showing his teeth, making strange growling sounds.

Lu Yi watched the man for a while and realized he was only capable of lashing out—if people weren’t holding him down, he probably would have lunged at Lu Yi to start biting. Lu Yi then asked, "Hey, buddy, what’s wrong with you?"

The person, acting crazed, didn’t respond. It seemed he had completely lost his reason. Just when everyone was puzzled by what was happening with him, the crowd suddenly stirred again, and two more people began fighting.
