Chapter 1266: Chapter 1266: The Turmoil Behind Hip-Hop Shenanigans
"Why are you asking this?" Mo Yun eyed Gu Fan and Lu Yi curiously, seeing that their expressions were off.
Gu Fan hurriedly covered up, "Nothing, just asking randomly."
"Alright, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be going. I wish you all the strength to survive." After saying that, Mo Yun smiled faintly and then soared into the air, leaping onto a tree. Her devilish figure disappeared among the dense foliage.
Lu Yi was both nervous and anxious, "Gu Fan, do you think Jie, he..."
"I don’t know, but I still feel there’s hope..." Gu Fan clenched his teeth, not finishing his sentence because he didn’t want to say that hope was slim.
After a short pause, Gu Fan and Lu Yi returned to their team. Everyone saw their solemn expressions and knew that they had encountered something unpleasant, causing everyone to become on edge.
Gu Fan found General Horton and a few other key members, and began to share the intelligence he had gathered, asking everyone to think of ways to deal with the dangers they would face on their path forward.
Upon hearing about the various troubles they would encounter next, everyone became pessimistic, feeling that the difficulty of forging a path of survival was too great.
It was only General Horton who raised a question, "Gu Fan, can you tell me how you obtained this intelligence?"
Gu Fan explained, "Actually, I just went to find someone from Organization X. I knew they had to be watching nearby, and I thought since they want us to explore a region that even vampires fear to enter, they must know something about it. So, I got some information from them, it’s that simple."
After hearing this explanation, everybody felt it was reasonable and continued to discuss how to proceed.
An hour later, they had devised a preliminary plan, and the meeting disbanded, with everyone starting to take action.
Gu Fan, Lin Xi, Su Hui, Lu Yi, Ouyang Jin, and Zhuo Hang were still gathered together, holding a small private meeting concerning the matter of Jie. Gu Fan wanted to hear everyone’s opinions.
According to Mo Yun, Organization X had recently sent a group of people to explore this dangerous region, and their timing coincided with when Jie lost contact. From the videos on Jie’s phone, it was apparent that Jie had been in this area.
Though not a single person from that group returned alive, and the likelihood of Jie still being alive was low, Gu Fan refused to accept this notion. He wanted to go and see for himself; armed with the Destiny Stone, he feared no danger.
Lu Yi nodded, "Perhaps Jie is hiding somewhere right now, waiting for us to rescue him?"
Everyone knew the chances were low, but they couldn’t bring themselves to give up on a friend who had shared so many hardships over the years. How could they abandon him so easily?
After careful consideration, Gu Fan said, "I’m grateful to everyone for making the decision to come here to find Jie because of me. I believe that Jie would also be happy to know that so many people are risking their lives for him. If Jie is still alive, we must save him at all costs, but just in case, I don’t want a dim hope to put more people in danger. Therefore, I’ve decided that Lin Xi and I will continue to move forward, while Sister Su, Lu Yi, and Ouyang Jin should return the way they came, escorted by Zhuo Hang."
Su Hui immediately objected, "What are you talking about? We’ve faced so many trials together, and now you want us to back down at this time? You want to leave me feeling guilty and sleepless from now on?"
"Exactly, Jie isn’t just your good brother, he’s mine too. Why should you go and I can’t? You, Gu Fan, have the Destiny Stone Body Guard, and I, Lu Yi, have my doomsayer’s mouth," Lu Yi said proudly.
Without a doubt, Gu Fan already knew Su Hui and Lu Yi’s stance, and then everyone’s eyes turned to Ouyang Jin.
Ouyang Jin put on a woeful expression, "Don’t look at me. You guys brought me here; you are responsible for bringing me back alive. I have no choice but to follow you, but this is entirely different from what we agreed on before we left. And you won’t even allow me to raise my price. You guys are unreasonable."
Lu Yi looked disdainful, "So after all that, you just want to raise your price."
Gu Fan smiled contentedly; he had guessed everyone’s attitudes already. Knowing that nobody was ready to leave, he decided that there was no need for further thanks. They would continue to advance, working together with one heart.
As everyone was preparing to disperse, Ouyang Jin hastened to add, "What, that’s it? We haven’t settled the matter of the price increase. I’m not asking for much; a ten percent increase will suffice."
No one paid any attention to Ouyang Jin, which made him feel quite dejected, "A bunch of ungrateful people! Just wait, when I get the upper hand in raising prices, I’ll hike it so much that you’ll doubt your life choices."
Upon hearing this, everyone couldn’t help but laugh, "Sure, we look forward to that day coming soon."
Ouyang Jin had a sudden inspiration, "Lu Yi, now you can curse all you want. Maybe the day will come when we’re driven to bankruptcy by Ouyang Jin’s price hike."
After an initial pause, everyone began to chuckle, and Lu Yi shook his head, "Buddy, even though I’m a doomsayer, I’m not dumb. Would I fall for such an obvious trap?"
"I’ll throttle you, you uncooperative doomsayer," Ouyang Jin, unable to contain his irritation, decided to take it all out on Lu Yi.
Irina, seeing Lu Yi and Ouyang Jin chasing and teasing each other, easing the tension, couldn’t help but sigh, "You all have been through so much that you’re not fazed by things like this. Please consider our limited capacity to handle so much at once."
Gu Fan apologized with a smile, "Sorry, they did go a bit too far, but please understand that if we don’t relieve our stress like this, we fear we might go crazy."
Irina was taken aback for a moment, then seeing these people walking away with laughter, she realized something, "Facing pressure, feeling nervous is inevitable, but overcoming it brings you closer to success. True strength is laughing in the face of hardship, never giving up, and that’s why these people are powerful, not because of their abilities, but because their hearts are stronger than anyone else’s."
"May the gods protect me; I must survive and return. My business with you isn’t finished yet." At that moment, Irina’s determination surged; she still had unfulfilled wishes, wanting to bring her child to meet the hunter, to tell her child about his long-admired father.
In the distance, the hunter flew on his sword, sitting cross-legged as he surveyed the landscape from above. Suddenly, he felt something, glanced in the direction of the Dark Primitive Mountain, and a sense of unease grew within him, fearing that something might be about to happen.
Recently, the city had been quiet, not a vampire in sight, and the hunter began to sense that something wasn’t right. He, too, started his own move.
