Chapter 1262: Chapter 1262: Only Moving Forward, No Way Back

"Master, I want to know, since you vampires have come, why haven’t you launched an attack on us?" Gu Fan stared at Mo Yun, eager to know the answer.

Mo Yun just curled her lips upward, her expression disdainful: "Aren’t you very clever? You could guess. Don’t expect to get any information out of me."

"Alright then, let me take a guess." Gu Fan cracked a slight smile before continuing: "Actually, I’ve speculated for some time that you’ve caught up with us and have been hiding around, but you haven’t attacked us for only a few possible reasons."

"First is that you don’t have enough troops, your main forces have encountered trouble, but that’s impossible. With so many powerful vampire warriors, no one is a match for you, so there’s no way you lack the troops."

"Second is that you disdain us too much to bother hunting us down, but that’s also impossible. After all, we’ve killed so many of your vampires, you can’t possibly not take us seriously."

"Third is that you’re afraid of offending someone among us, but this possibility I have also ruled out. Organization X fears neither heaven nor earth, and there’s no one in our team that could make you wary."

"The fourth and only remaining possibility is that you deliberately refrain from attacking us because you want us to continue forward, to scout the way for you." But as Gu Fan spoke these words, he saw the look of surprise on Mo Yun’s face, which seemed to indicate he had guessed correctly.

Mo Yun quickly realized she had just lost her composure and hurried to regain her calm, speaking disdainfully, "Congratulations, Gu Fan, you guessed it. Indeed, we do hope that you continue on, because what lies ahead is a forbidden territory that is very dangerous even for us. We hope to use your special abilities to help us figure out exactly what is in that forbidden land."

"Really?" Gu Fan’s brows furrowed tightly as he began to feel the pressure.

Irina also chimed in, "Although we have seen through your intentions, unfortunately, our resources are limited. We have no other way than to move forward, right?"

"Exactly, even if you know, so what? So I might as well tell you," Mo Yun said and then turned to leave, but not before looking back and making a goodbye gesture to Gu Fan, "Good luck, enjoy the journey ahead. I hope you all make it back alive to ultimately die by my hand."

"Don’t worry, I will certainly come back alive. Also, Master, please take good care of yourself," Gu Fan politely saw Mo Yun off before heaving a long sigh of relief.

With Mo Yun’s departure, the low growling of the vampires also faded away as if they had truly left the area.

Lin Xi immediately asked, "What do we do, if we try to go back we’ll definitely encounter the vampires, which means we have no way back, we can only move forward."

"Yes, for now, we only have forward to go, no way back," Gu Fan began to ponder heavily.

Unable to help himself, Lu Yi started to complain, "Forbidden territories, always forbidden territories, we have been to so many, and every time it was a desperate struggle, it’s just endless."

"Alright, let’s hurry back to the camp and discuss what to do next with General Horton," Gu Fan sighed inwardly, this situation completely out of his expectations. As he had said earlier, vampires catching up to them was more troublesome than them not catching up.

Soon, Gu Fan and his companions returned to the camp, only to be met with a number of surprised gazes looking at them, as if asking why they were wandering around late at night, not knowing how dangerous the area was.

Gu Fan went straight to General Horton and recounted the recent encounter with the vampires.

Understanding that the vampires had indeed caught up and were only watching them, without any intention to attack, General Horton realized their true purpose was to use Gu Fan and his team to investigate the forbidden territory.

Faced with such a dilemma, General Horton spent a moment in contemplation before smiling bitterly, "Do you think we still have a way back?"

Gu Fan shook his head, "No more, once we stepped into this region, we no longer had many choices."

"Indeed, no retreat, only advance, unable to go back." General Horton’s anxiety was evident, but he knew he had to keep a cool head as the commander; otherwise, if he panicked, everyone else would follow suit.

"Anyway, we came here because we had nowhere else to go, so might as well go all in." General Horton began to boost his morale, reminding himself that there was nothing so terrible about it.

But whether it was Gu Fan or General Horton, they both knew that the forbidden territory, a place not even the vampires dared to enter, was unimaginably dangerous, possibly even worse than hell itself.

Gu Fan started to consider another problem: "How many more days can our food last?"

General Horton didn’t look very optimistic, "Hard to say. If we’re frugal, we can last another five days. If we come across some wild fruits or something else edible on the way, we could last even longer."

"Five days, eh?" Gu Fan also grew worried. Given the current situation, five days was not nearly enough to get them out, and further danger ahead might even lead to the loss of their rations.

Not wanting to dwell on it, Gu Fan discussed with General Horton: since the vampires were not attacking for the moment, it would be better for everyone to get a good night’s rest and to start moving at an accelerated pace at the crack of dawn, making the most out of these five days to find alternative food sources.

"Alright!" General Horton sighed, realizing there was little else to be hopeful for under these circumstances.

With that, Gu Fan bid General Horton goodbye and hurried back to his own tent to rest.

Watching Gu Fan’s retreating figure, General Horton remembered the words of the mysterious masked person. If he encountered Gu Fan, he should follow him closely, because Gu Fan was their only way to survive.

General Horton clenched his fist. He believed the words of the mysterious masked person, and all signs suggested that Gu Fan might indeed lead them to their ultimate destination.

"Gu Fan, oh Gu Fan, what kind of person are you, to warrant such attention from that masked individual?" General Horton felt somewhat unbalanced in his heart. He had once thought he was quite capable, but after encountering the mysterious masked person, he became sincerely convinced.

Then General Horton began encountering other formidable characters, including the not-so-ordinary Gu Fan, who seemed to surpass him.

Suddenly, General Horton couldn’t help but wonder where the mysterious masked person was at this time, what they were doing. After all, this was all their plan, yet they were nowhere to be seen. Did they not care about what was happening?
