Chapter 1260: Chapter 1260: Wait and Wait Some More

One evening, all was peaceful, and Gu Fan went to sleep soundly.

The team was about to leave, but Lin Xi came running with a suggestion for Horton not to hurry the departure, to give the vampires a bit more time, and to let everyone rest another day.

This time, General Horton guessed Gu Fan and his group’s intentions and surprisingly agreed to do so.

Upon hearing that they were to continue resting in place, everyone’s first reaction was astonishment. What was this? An opportunity for the vampires to catch up? One chance wasn’t enough, they wanted to give another? Did they think everyone was invincible?

However, more people chose to trust General Horton, and so the time came to the second night.

Gu Fan woke up, stepped out of his tent, and realized the time had flown, the sky was already dark.

His good friend Lu Yi couldn’t stand it anymore and came over to say, "Buddy, are you worried that the vampires won’t be able to catch up, or that they’ve lost their way? I can help you out."

Gu Fan panicked and quickly persuaded, "You don’t need to help with this. As for whether the vampires can catch up, let’s leave it to fate and keep your comments to yourself."

Just as Lu Yi was about to say something more, he caught Ouyang Jin’s murderous look, which made him swallow the words on the tip of his tongue again.

Irina also came over, looking somewhat pitiful with one hand wrapped in a bandage.

"What are you running around for with such a serious injury?" Gu Fan criticized, making Irina almost roll her eyes. "Alright, stop the nonsense. So far the vampires haven’t caught up. What exactly are you thinking?"

"Let’s wait and see," Gu Fan said, then glanced down at his watch and found it wasn’t too late.

Lin Xi called everyone to eat, to fill up their stomachs first. The matters at hand could wait till later.

In this wilderness, food and drink were makeshift, but no one was fussy — having something to eat was good enough.

While eating, everyone chatted and laughed from time to time, trying to alleviate the pressure they were under with sounds of joy and laughter amidst the perilous surroundings.

Irina spoke about some matters regarding the Hunter’s Guild and Organization X struggles, including some things that shouldn’t be disclosed, all of which Irina revealed. She had no idea what they would encounter later or what would happen, questioning the point in keeping these secrets and choosing to enjoy today instead.

Lin Xi was most keen to learn about matters related to hunters, especially the true names of the hunters.

Whenever the topic of hunters came up, Irina couldn’t help but get frustrated, but she still shared a lot about the hunters, especially the first time she encountered a hunter when she narrowly escaped death in Dark City and was saved by the Hunter’s Guild.

Hearing this story, everyone was surprised that a hunter had been to Dark City; they wished they had asked him earlier for some information about Dark City.

Gu Fan also shared some of his experiences, like searching for a sunken island in the Triangle Sea Area, where they encountered Organization X for the first time. However, he deliberately concealed some key information.

When Irina realized Gu Fan and his group had traveled to many dangerous places and had experiences even more thrilling than vampire hunting, she couldn’t help but look at them in awe. She had always thought the Hunter’s Guild did impressive things, but now it seemed Gu Fan and his peers surpassed them.

"What? That place had a chaotic gang because of you guys," Irina realized, shocked and unsure how to express her amazement.

Gu Fan just smiled wryly, "Yeah, Sister Su and I just wanted to fetch some stuff, and then we ran into that mess. We fought hard to make our way back."

"You guys are incredible. I’m with you all the way," Irina sincerely admired them but also sensed that Gu Fan had much more left unsaid.

Just when everyone was chatting with high spirits, Lu Yi’s words abruptly shattered the mood, "Do you think vampires have already infiltrated our surroundings?"

"Doomsayer, I’m going to strangle you," Ouyang Jin almost grabbed Lu Yi’s neck.

Lu Yi hurriedly explained, "I just said the vampires are coming, not that they are attacking us, I’ve been careful with my words, dude, spare me."

Gu Fan frowned and then quickly stood up. He scanned the dark surroundings and began to walk out.

"Dude, what are you doing?" Everyone immediately followed Gu Fan’s pace, walking to the edge of the camp together.

The guards, and General Horton who also patrolled the camp, noticed the unusual actions of Gu Fan and his group and sent people to keep an eye on them, fearing Gu Fan would leave them behind and act alone.

Gu Fan, striding with purpose, glanced around, occasionally looking up at the dense branches and leaves.

"Dude, don’t rush, tell us if you’ve found something." No sooner had Lu Yi finished speaking than he saw Gu Fan shining a flashlight up into the trees.

Su Hui understood, "Gu Fan, you suspect the vampires have already been lurking around."

"Exactly, with Lu Yi’s doomsayer luck, if he says so, it must be true." Gu Fan’s confidence made Lu Yi feel awkward, "Dude, are you complimenting me or mocking me here?"

"That’ll teach you to hold your tongue." Ouyang Jin sighed, how could they have been careless and let Lu Yi seize the chance to speak?

But Gu Fan laughed, "Don’t worry, Lu Yi, if it really is as you said, I’ll credit you for it."

"Why?" Lu Yi was baffled.

Lin Xi explained, "If the vampires are going all out to kill us, our situation would be very dangerous, but if they are just following us without intending to strike, then the situation gets more complicated and we have a sliver of hope."

Both Lu Yi and Ouyang Jin shook their heads, "Don’t understand, really don’t understand."

Su Hui added, "An enemy’s unusual behavior always has a reason behind it, and that reason is our opportunity."

"Still don’t understand!" As Lu Yi puzzled over this, he came up with another doubt, "Wait a minute, Gu Fan, why do only the girls understand you? How’s a bro supposed to feel about that?"

Hearing this, everyone felt awkward and couldn’t help but secretly disdain him a bit.

Ouyang Jin hit back directly, "It’s your own lack of effort."

"How can you blame me? Gu Fan isn’t courting me or going on dates daily, nor are we living under the same roof." Suddenly, Lu Yi thought of something and couldn’t help smirking mischievously, "But there is one thing, I definitely understand Gu Fan better than you do since you’ve never been to the men’s bathhouse with him."

"Bro, you’re straying a bit too far off topic, let’s focus on the matter at hand." Gu Fan really couldn’t take it anymore, quickly redirected the conversation, and also prevented Lu Yi from blurting out too much sensitive information.

However, everyone had already turned their attention to Lu Yi, urging him to spill some explosive info.

Irina was really done with these people: "Do you really not take vampires seriously?"
