Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 1215: Another Traveler
Chapter 1215: Chapter 1215: Another Traveler
Everyone followed Gu Fan’s lead, getting off the vehicle one by one, entering the woods, and advancing quietly, slowly approaching the campsite of the Lightning Mercenary Corps.
Gu Fan and Irina were at the forefront of the group, peeking out from behind the trees, they saw members of the Lightning Mercenaries busy lifting equipment and preparing boats, seemingly ready to set off via the waterway.
It was strange, the Lightning Mercenary Corps was not taking the land route, but the water route. Where were they heading?
There was only one river in the Dark Primitive Mountain, known as the River of Survival, which almost ran parallel to the Road of Death, bypassing Dark City and leading deeper into the Dark Primitive Mountain.
From the map, the Dark Primitive Mountain was surrounded by valleys like a barricade, isolating this area from the outside world. Yet, there were two gaps, one being the Road of Death, and the other, this river. While the Road of Death leads to Dark City, the ultimate end of the River of Survival remained a mystery.
Over the years, everyone heading to Dark City had taken the Road of Death. Gu Fan wondered why no one traveled through the River of Survival to reach the Dark Primitive Mountain and then proceeded into Dark City, opting instead for the universally chosen Road of Death.
Irina explained that firstly, the Road of Death was accessible via transportation and had a clear direction, and secondly, no one had ever heard of anyone reaching Dark City safely via the waterway, implying the River of Survival posed greater risks than the Road of Death.
Gu Fan couldn’t help but admire the Lightning Mercenary Corps for choosing the most challenging route; what were these people thinking, or perhaps their journey was not motivated by money.
Su Hui speculated that the final destination was different. The Road of Death could only lead to Dark City, which was not where the Lightning Mercenaries intended to go, hence they did not take this route.
Suddenly, someone from the Hunter’s Guild sneezed inappropriately, immediately alerting the Lightning Mercenary Corps.
"Who’s there?" The Lightning mercenaries picked up their guns and aimed at the woods, and more people rushed to the scene.
The opposing group, with more men and guns, had already overwhelmed Gu Fan’s side. A direct confrontation at this point would only lead to pointless casualties. Gu Fan and Irina exchanged glances, understanding each other’s thoughts.
At this time, the deputy leader of the Lightning Mercenary Corps arrived, wearing an impressive sports vest and a cold expression, and said coolly, "I don’t care who you are, come out, or we’ll come in and you won’t like the way we pull you out."
Hearing this, and the sound of bullets being loaded, everyone on Gu Fan’s side was hiding tightly behind the trees, barely daring to breathe, with some regretting having followed Gu Fan here.
Gu Fan helplessly shrugged his shoulders and then stepped out with his hands raised, indicating he posed no threat.
"Is it you?" the deputy leader recognized Gu Fan and then his gaze grew even colder, "Were you following us?"
To this, Gu Fan shook his head, "Not at all. We just thought alike. I also chose the River of Survival route, considering many mercenary groups would be heading towards the Road of Death tomorrow."
The deputy leader looked incredulous, "You pick the water route yet have no boats ready, do you think we can be easily deceived?" With that, he quickly drew his gun and aimed at Gu Fan’s head.
"Calm down!" Gu Fan definitely did not want to get shot and added, "I’m not your enemy. I’m just curious about why you are moving so late; maybe our intentions are similar."
"Oh, what intentions?" The deputy leader was somewhat curious about why Gu Fan and his group had left town so late.
Gu Fan smiled lightly, "Sorry, that’s our secret. I can’t tell you."
"Without your explanation, it’s hard for me to trust you. So, you understand why I’m cautious, right? You shouldn’t mind if I shoot you," the deputy leader said, revealing a cold smirk.
Gu Fan remained calm, secure in his Vajra Body Protection and knowing he had support from his comrades. He continued, "Your late departure, keeping it hidden from others, and choosing the River of Survival suggests you are headed deep into the Dark Primitive Mountain, seeking somethingde there.""
"Boy, that’s none of your business, don’t be nosy," the deputy leader seemed irritated, possibly because Gu Fan had hit the nail on the head.
Gu Fan appeared unconcerned, "I’d like to offer a friendly warning - your equipment will be useless against creatures similar to vampires. You must prepare wooden weapons before encountering them; if you head into Dark Primitive Mountain now, a massacre awaits, and by the time you realize something’s wrong, it’ll be too late to prepare."
Hearing what Gu Fan had said, the Lightning Mercenary Corps were sceptical, but the deputy leader insisted, "Speak, who exactly are you? Why are you here? What’s your purpose? If you don’t speak, I won’t let you go."
"We are from the Hunter’s Guild!" At this point, Irina stepped forward, bravely facing the Lightning Mercenary Corps, "You should have heard about us; we’re the ones who informed every mercenary group about the vampires."
The deputy leader’s expression turned solemn, "Indeed, I have heard, but how can you prove you are from the Hunter’s Guild?"
Irina suggested, "Here’s what we can do: I’ll call my superior, and he can talk to someone from the upper echelons of the Lightning Mercenary Corps over the phone. That would confirm it."
"No need, my orders are clear, not to let anyone know our movements, so even if you are from the Hunter’s Guild, I can’t let you leave alive," the deputy lider’s face hardened.
At this time, the men of the Lightning Mercenary Corps had surrounded them from both sides, blocking any escape routes. At a single command, they would open fire.
Gu Fan frowned, realizing it would be difficult to persuade these men, and seeing a confrontation was inevitable, suddenly the sound of a car engine jolted everyone’s nerves, who could expect another mercenary group to arrive at this time?
Suddenly, three groups met, everyone looked at each other, then together turned their gazes, and for a moment, all stood stupefied.
