Chapter 1195: Chapter 1195: The Relationship is Somewhat Complicated
Today, the underground entertainment world was deserted, with not even the regulars showing up for work, which made the hunter feel very strange. What was going on? Where had everyone gone? Could it be a collective strike, and if so, why hadn’t anyone informed him? Was he really that unpopular?
Just as the hunter was puzzled, Lin Yue arrived, dragging his tired body and wearing a bitter expression.
"What’s wrong? You look awful, even worse than someone who’s just gone through a breakup," the hunter’s words were indeed a blow, and Lin Yue could only respond with a wry smile, "Master, you’re right. I’ve experienced both a breakup and job loss."
"What happened?" the hunter quickly pressed, more curious than concerned.
Lin Yue sighed, "Recently, the gang’s shipment was intercepted, and Sister Hong suspects that I provided the police with a tip-off. So, Sister Hong sent people from the gang to kill me."
Hearing this, the hunter was surprised, "Sister Hong? Wasn’t she your girl? Just a few days ago I saw you two being all lovey-dovey, and now she’s got people chasing you all over the place. Do young people these days break up that quickly? That was your first love, wasn’t it?"
Lin Yue couldn’t help but give a bitter laugh, "Yes, I never expected it... This woman turned on me so suddenly."
"Are you alright then?" the hunter gave him a good look-over and, seeing that Lin Yue wasn’t injured, nodded in approval, "A gang’s manhunt is no big deal, after all. I’ve taught you martial arts. If you still can’t handle them, that would be truly embarrassing."
Lin Yue sighed, "The gang members can’t do anything to me, but they’ve taken my sister." Then he recounted what had happened, including the part where Lin Xi, Gu Fan, and Su Hui showcased their incredible skills that stunned Lin Yue.
The hunter frowned, "Your sister, your future brother-in-law, they’re that formidable? Even the vampires from Organization X can’t beat them?"
At this point, Lin Yue could not help but marvel, "Yeah, I used to think I was the most formidable one among them. It turns out I’m the weakest. I thought I had been through a lot, but now it seems my older sister and future brother-in-law have experienced even more."
The hunter’s expression became serious, "Let me guess, you’re a Lin, your sister is also a Lin, and since you mentioned she knows magic, she wouldn’t happen to be Lin Xi, would she?"
"Yes?" Lin Yue was astonished and immediately asked, "Master, you know my sister?"
"It’s more than just knowing her, it’s just..." The hunter struggled for the words, then settled on suggesting that everything appeared to be destined.
Lin Yue wanted to know more, asking over and over, "Master, can you tell me who my sister and future brother-in-law really are, why they’re so powerful, and why I feel like Organization X is targeting them?"
"Well, the truth is, I don’t know them well and don’t know much about them." The hunter then remembered something and looked at Lin Yue with alarm, asking, "Have you told your sister anything about me?"
To this, Lin Yue immediately shook his head, "You instructed me before, Master. Without your permission, I wouldn’t reveal your identity."
"Good, it’s not time for your sister to know of my existence yet," the hunter spoke as if somewhat fearful of Lin Xi, which piqued Lin Yue’s curiosity, "Master, you don’t have some kind of grudge with my sister, do you?"
This time, it was the hunter’s turn to look troubled, "It’s not exactly a grudge. We, the inheritors of Jian Shen, have two missions. The first is to completely defeat the vampires of the West, also known as Organization X. The second is to protect a woman." After saying this, the hunter showed the portrait to Lin Yue.
As soon as Lin Yue saw it, he was utterly astounded, "This is a woman in ancient attire, and she looks identical to Lin Xi."
Lin Yue was confused, "Master, who is this woman in the portrait, and why does she resemble my sister so closely?"
"It’s a complex story," the hunter didn’t know how to explain, so he began with the second mission of the inheritors of Jian Shen, "If the woman in this portrait has this half of a jade pendant, then she is the one we, the inheritors of Jian Shen, are meant to protect, and your sister has this half of the jade pendant."
Lin Yue held the jade pendant and looked at it closely, his face showing confusion, "What does this mean, that the inheritors of Jian Shen have to protect my sister? Does that mean I have to do the same?"
"Enough of that, we’ll talk about who’s going to protect whom later; you and your sister can figure it out. Right now, I want to know if you’re truly out of the gang, and whether we need to move out of the underground entertainment world." The hunter, having been a wanderer with no fixed abode, now finally had a place to call home and was somewhat reluctant to leave.
Lin Yue glanced around, then flashed a helpless smile, "I never expected to leave the gang this way, to end things with Sister Hong. But at this point, I have no choice but to accept it."
At that moment, Lin Yue’s phone rang—it was a message from Sister Hong. The gist of it was that she was giving him the underground entertainment world, and from now on, all debts and grievances would be cleared.
The hunter was a bit shocked, "What’s going on? This place is completely yours now, no wonder none of the gang members showed up."
"This belongs to me now?" Lin Yue was in disbelief as well. From being an underling here to taking charge, and now becoming the master of the place—all too quickly. It felt like a dream.
The hunter added a comment, "Seems like Sister Hong realized she made a mistake and wants to make peace. How do you feel about it?"
"Let it be. I don’t want to trouble the gang anymore. As long as they don’t bother me again, I’ll forgive them." After saying this, Lin Yue suddenly felt a great sense of relief. He was finally free from the gang, no longer having to fight and kill, no longer forced to do things against his conscience.
With interest, the hunter asked, "So, how do you plan to run this place now that you’re free from the gang? You’re not planning on sticking to your old trade, are you?"
"Of course not. Since I’m no longer with the gang, I won’t be doing what I used to. I want to completely renovate this place, turn it into..." Lin Yue’s bold and confident words trailed off as he realized he had no plan whatsoever.
"Take your time to think about it, I’m going back to sleep. At least we have a place to continue living," said the hunter as he stretched and yawned, then looked back at Lin Yue, still deep in thought.
The hunter hadn’t expected the new generation inheritors of Jian Shen to become so deeply involved with Gu Fan and the others. That was good—in facing a common enemy, they could collaborate, and maybe even taking down the headquarters of Organization X, Dark City, wasn’t out of the question.
In the hunter’s mind, a grand plan began to unfold.
