Chapter 1176: Chapter 1176: She’s Not Simple Either

Today was just like any other, with Lu Yi diligently working, while also not forgetting to admire the beautiful profile of Lan Ning, which was endlessly fascinating and seemed to grow more beautiful with every glance.

Suddenly, as if sensing something, Lan Ning also looked over, and their eyes met.

Feeling guilty, Lu Yi quickly turned to look at the scenery outside the window, feeling a bit nervous inside, wondering whether Lan Ning had noticed she was being watched.

After a while, as Lu Yi buried herself in her work, Lan Ning came over and handed her some snacks, saying they were from her last trip and she had personally tasted them and found them delicious before deciding to share them with everyone.

For this, Lu Yi was very grateful and even wanted to muster the courage to invite Lan Ning to dinner several times, but she backed down in the end.

Unknowingly, it was time to clock out, and Lu Yi and Lan Ning worked late, leaving the office together. As it happened, both of their stomachs growled in unison when they saw a restaurant across the street that had rave reviews online.

Lu Yi felt this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and once again summoned the courage to invite Lan Ning to have dinner together.

Lan Ning hesitated for a moment before nodding in agreement, which made Lu Yi’s heart bloom with joy, although she tried to control herself, showing a mature and steady demeanor.

The two entered the restaurant and talked while eating, hitting it off so well that no matter what topic Lu Yi brought up, Lan Ning could keep the conversation going, making Lu Yi feel as if she had found a kindred spirit.

If Lin Xi were here, she would definitely realize that Lan Ning was no ordinary person; she could keep up with any topic and make Lu Yi feel like she had found a kindred spirit, just as she could do the same for other men.

But honestly, Lan Ning’s ability was something many people aspired to learn but couldn’t.

The meal lasted a full two hours, with Lu Yi and Lan Ning’s conversation never breaking, never hitting a lull, making Lu Yi feel she hadn’t had such a good time eating, even with Gu Fan, Jie, and the others.

But no matter how well the conversation went, time did not permit them to continue. Lu Yi paid the bill, and as the two were about to go their separate ways after leaving the restaurant, an opportunity miraculously presented itself.

Lan Ning, in her carelessness, had forgotten her keys at the office again, but luckily, the office wasn’t far, just across the street.

Lu Yi offered to go with Lan Ning, after all, they had both forgotten their keys on the same day before, and had returned to the office one after the other, only to discover that there was someone else there—a thief wearing a mask.

Even though they hadn’t caught the thief last time, fortunately, nothing was missing from the office, which had made Lu Yi curious, "What do you think the thief was looking for in the boss’s office last time? The boss said nothing was missing, but I saw a nervous look on his face."

Upon hearing this, Lan Ning’s expression changed slightly, "Alright, don’t overthink it. Since the boss said nothing was stolen, you don’t need to worry about it."

"You’re right, why should I worry?" Lu Yi said, while slipping into thought, as if still finding the events of last time suspicious, and without realizing it, she slowed down on the steps.

Lan Ning was a couple of steps ahead of Lu Yi when suddenly Lan Ning slipped, and perfectly towards Lu Yi’s direction, falling right into her arms, and Lu Yi, caught off guard, failed to stand firm and was knocked over as well.

The two quickly got up, with Lan Ning’s face flushed with embarrassment, then she said, "I’m sorry, did you hurt yourself when you fell?"

Lu Yi assured her it was fine, "Lucky the steps were only three. If it had been one of those staircases with more than ten steps, it really would have been the end of me."

Lan Ning looked at Lu Yi rubbing the bruised area on her waist, apologized to her again, and helped rub the spot for her.

Lu Yi felt Lan Ning’s fingertips massaging her, and suddenly felt her soul float, as if all the pain vanished into thin air; the fall had been worth it.

"Thank you for today, for treating me to a meal and for cushioning my fall with your body." Lan Ning smiled slightly, becoming even more beautiful.

Lu Yi, as if he had never seen such a beautiful Lan Ning before, was mesmerized for a moment and couldn’t seem to take his eyes off her.

"What are you looking at?" Lan Ning, feeling embarrassed by his gaze, quickly turned away.

"I’m not looking at anything..." Lu Yi also felt a bit awkward and didn’t dare to look any longer.

Afterward, Lu Yi accompanied Lan Ning back to the office. Lan Ning found the keys, and the two of them said goodbye at the company entrance, simultaneously exclaiming, "See you tomorrow!"

Lu Yi couldn’t contain his excitement; he kept looking back every few steps, watching Lan Ning’s silhouette remain graceful amidst the hustle and bustle, and thought how wonderful it would be if Lan Ning could be his girlfriend.

Suddenly, without any warning, Lan Ning also looked back. From a distance within the crowd, they eyed each other and then awkwardly turned away.

And just that glance nearly made Lu Yi shout out loud, "Oh my God, she looked back at me, she looked back! Does she have feelings for me too? She must, she must. Thank you, heavens above."

Half an hour later, Lan Ning arrived home, only to see a figure sitting on her sofa, legs crossed leisurely.

With a resigned expression, Lan Ning said, "Linna, could you maybe announce your visit next time? If I mistake you for a burglar, don’t blame me for screaming."

"Sorry, I thought you were used to it. But it looks like you’re not welcoming me," Irina stood up, maintaining her smile, then walked over to Lan Ning to straighten her hair and added, "Look at you, getting prettier by the day. I wonder which lucky guy will benefit from that in the future."

In response, Lan Ning snorted contemptuously, "Me, benefit some guy? It’s up to you all to decide that. You tell me who to get close to, and I do it. Right now, you’re telling me to get close to Lu Yi, and I’m working on it."

"You’re doing very well. You’ve been a great help to the Hunter’s Guild, and we will not forget your contribution," Irina said, which did not cheer up Lan Ning. Displaying an unwelcome demeanor, Lan Ning asked, "So, what’s the matter this time you’re looking for me?"

"We’ve confirmed it; your leader does indeed have issues. He knows people from our Hunter’s Guild and has helped them a great deal, which is something we can’t allow to happen." Saying this, Irina’s expression turned cold, "This person is a traitor; we’ve dealt with him, and I’ve come to tell you, as I’ve told the others, to take heed."

Lan Ning said indifferently, "Don’t worry, I have a blood feud with Organization X; I would never betray the Hunter’s Guild."

"With those words, I can rest easy," smiled Irina, then added, "How about it? We haven’t gone shopping together in a long time; let’s go out and have a walk."
