Chapter 1124: Chapter 1124: If You’re Going to Do It, Do It Thoroughly
The conspiracy of the X Fund had been thwarted, but the matter was far from over; Gu Fan had to find Li Shi. It was his responsibility, as he was the one who dragged Li Shi into this, so he swore he must rescue Li Shi.
To ensure Li Shi’s safety, Gu Fan called Helen’s mobile phone, seeking help.
However, Helen’s response was, "I’m sorry, Gu Fan, but you know me. Although we are relatives, my allegiance lies with Organization X, and it takes precedence. The higher-ups have already approved Haywes’s plan, which requires you to exchange the old family house for Li Shi. My task is to persuade your parents to sell the old house to me."
"Thanks a lot, relative. You’re not here to help; you’re practically here to set me up." Gu Fan expressed his dissatisfaction, and Helen could only keep apologizing.
"My grandfather has already sent someone to pick up your parents to discuss the transfer of the house. You better stay put and not cause any more trouble," Helen added, her statement sounding almost like a plea, hoping to bring the issue to a swift conclusion.
Gu Fan sighed, "I too would like to give you the house, but first, my parents will never agree, and second, the Destiny Stone will not let me off the hook like that. Ultimately, you will fail."
On the other end, Helen nodded, "I agree with your view, but Organization X does not want to give up, so my grandfather and I have to follow orders. But I have to remind you, even if we don’t get the old house, it doesn’t mean your classmate will be safe. Do you understand what I’m implying?"
Upon hearing this, Gu Fan broke out in a cold sweat, as images of Li Shi’s tragic demise flashed through his mind.
"Helen, for the sake of our family ties, I implore you to protect Li Shi at all costs, or else Haywes won’t live to leave this city. That will be the time when I have a falling out with Organization X, and we go to war. I have the Destiny Stone Body Guard; I fear no one." Gu Fan spoke earnestly, his words tinged with a murderous look.
"Alright, I understand. I will do my utmost to protect Li Shi." Helen felt a chill in her heart, experiencing the serious murderous look from Gu Fan for the first time.
The call ended, and Gu Fan took a deep breath, then slumped onto the sofa at home, looking troubled.
A while later, Lin Xi, Su Hui, and Gu Ling all arrived, each one praising Gu Fan for the impressive turnaround he had achieved.
To that, Gu Fan just gave a wry smile, "Everyone, we’ve only won half the battle. My classmate is still in their hands; we need to find a way to save her."
Su Hui nodded, "Of course, your classmate has been so willing to help, now that she’s in danger, we certainly won’t abandon her."
Seeing Gu Fan’s anxious appearance, Lin Xi grew curious, "You still haven’t answered me, is your classmate a boy or a girl?"
"My dear Lin Xi, lives are on the line, can you please focus on the important issues?" Gu Fan begged off, and Lin Xi had no choice but to drop the subject.
Gu Fan added, "I am going to try my best to convince my parents to sell the old house to get me out of here and let Organization X take over the Destiny Stone. That would be the ideal outcome. But if the Destiny Stone insists on sticking with me and leaving Organization X empty-handed, then I must ensure that Organization X doesn’t harm my classmate out of frustration."
Gu Ling showed urgency, "Brother, do we really have to sell the old house? I’m so attached to it."
"I am too; it’s full of memories, but trust me, we’re not going to lose the old house. Right now, all I’m thinking about is how to rescue my classmate." With that, Gu Fan entered a state of deep thought, contemplating where Haywes would have hidden Li Shi if he were in his shoes.
Su Hui spoke up, "With such a big incident, the X Fund must have a lot to deal with, even holding a press conference. If Haywes doesn’t show up, it would only raise suspicions."
"Yes, if we follow Haywes, we might find where Li Shi is being held." Gu Fan nodded, suddenly feeling the task might be simpler than expected. He said, "I just spoke with Haywes, and to confirm my classmate wasn’t hurt, I asked to let the classmate listen to the phone, meaning Haywes and my classmate are in the same place right now."
Su Hui’s eyes lit up, "If Haywes appears, and we check the surveillance footage, we could trace where he came from, and then find the place where your classmate is being held."
Lin Xi agreed, "Okay, we’ll find a way to force Haywes to show himself, but how can we make sure that happens?"
"Should I get someone to help?" Gu Fan immediately made a call, asking them to help spread rumors of a stock market crash and X Fund’s losses.
Su Hui quickly grasped Gu Fan’s intentions and couldn’t help but praise him, "Kid, you’re quite the sly one."
"I had no choice, did I?" Gu Fan sighed deeply, suddenly remembering something else, "Lin Xi, go check on your brother to make sure he wasn’t hurt in last night’s troubles."
"Don’t worry, I already asked him, and he said he’s fine, but he hesitated as though he has run into some trouble." A hint of worry flashed in Lin Xi’s eyes, thinking that if Organization X had planned the gang conflict, now that they’ve had their plans spoiled, they might seek retribution against the gangs.
Gu Fan interjected, "Even if Organization X were to settle scores with gangs, it would target the leaders; Lin Yue should be safe. Plus, if Organization X removes a few gang leaders, that would decentralize the gangs, and Lin Yue might even break free from them."
"Right, why didn’t I think of that?" Lin Xi showed joy, then urged, "Gu Fan, quickly call Helen and have her deal with the gangs as she sees fit—we won’t mind if some are taken out."
"You really dare to think big," Gu Fan said as he turned on the TV, which was reporting on a stock market crash. An expert was interviewed, stating that many had incurred losses but it was just short-term fluctuation and would soon adjust back.
Gu Fan frowned, if this commotion subsided and company bosses began buying stocks again under the influence of the X Fund and the inducement of people like Luo Jingrong and Du Changhui, the previous efforts would have been in vain.
"It seems we must take down the X Fund in one fell swoop." Gu Fan gripped the remote tightly, a resolute determination igniting in his eyes.
