Chapter 1115: Chapter 1015: Picked the Wrong Teammate
A restaurant that looked very ordinary, which usually didn’t attract any high-end customers, had been reserved for the day, simply because there were three VIPs visiting.
Luo Jingrong, Du Changhui, and Boss Lei, three businessmen who had no connection in their dealings, were now simultaneously present in this average restaurant. They looked at each other in astonishment, as if to say, "What a coincidence, you’re here too?"
The orchestrator behind the convergence of these three business tycoons was Gu Fan’s planning, and because Gu Fan didn’t have much money, he had chosen such an ordinary-looking restaurant.
By now, the three of them had roughly guessed what was going on; it definitely seemed to be someone’s deliberate arrangement.
Du Changhui looked at Du Jun, who was next to Gu Fan, with questioning eyes, because it was Du Jun who had invited him here, claiming that the father and son hadn’t seen each other in a long time and it was time to take a break from their busy schedules to have a meal together.
The reason Boss Lei came was due to an invitation from Boss Ding, who now appeared to have been requested by Gu Fan as well.
Luo Jingrong had indeed come at Gu Fan’s invitation, but only because Gu Fan had mentioned a big business deal, a huge transaction, and Luo Jingrong had come out of curiosity.
"Gentlemen, thank you for honoring me with your presence to sit down together for a meal. I am truly excited and honored," Gu Fan began with a commonplace salutation, while the three bosses were expressionless, some standing, some sitting, without giving Gu Fan a second glance, as if they had no intention of acknowledging him.
The atmosphere became somewhat awkward, and Gu Fan could only manage a forced laugh. "I apologize, gentlemen, I had to ask the three of you to come here because there is something important I need to discuss with you."
Du Jun offered a conciliatory smile. "Dad, believe me, I didn’t mean to trick you into coming. It’s just that Gu Fan truly has something important."
"Well, then, I’m curious to hear what could be so important," Du Changhui said disdainfully, disliking the sensation of being deceived.
Boss Lei also remarked, "Gu Fan, as you know, my time is very valuable. If you’ve brought us here for something insignificant, then there won’t be any possibility of us meeting again in the future."
"You don’t need to put so much pressure on me, Boss Lei," Gu Fan said, looking a bit embarrassed, aware that convincing these bosses wouldn’t be easy, but there wasn’t a flicker of doubt in his heart.
"All right, thank you for giving me this opportunity. Let’s begin, then." Gu Fan cleared his throat, then his face became serious. "I know all three of you have been trading stocks with X Fund and so on, but you probably don’t know that the other two have dealings with the X Fund as well."
Upon hearing this, Luo Jingrong, Du Changhui, and Boss Lei looked surprised, then glanced at each other again.
Gu Fan coughed again to draw their attention and continued. "Gentlemen, I don’t know how many people have followed X Fund into the stock market, but based on the intelligence I have, I’ve deduced the following situation." As he finished speaking, the large screen in the restaurant began to display the document Gu Fan had prepared, and he spoke according to the content on the document.
"Let me use an analogy. Boss Luo and a few companies that are on good terms with you make up the first group; you trade Class A stocks together with the X Fund. Boss Du makes up the second group, dealing in Class B stocks, while Boss Lei is the third group, dealing in Class C stocks. And the three groups are unaware of each other’s existence. What do you think will happen next?"
The faces of Du Changhui, Luo Jingrong, and Boss Lei changed slightly, as if they were in deep thought.
Gu Fan continued based on the document. "You all cooperate with X Fund, but the stocks you buy are different, and you are unaware of the other groups. X Fund could use this blind spot to make each of your groups buy stocks from another group, helping X Fund cash out and exit the market. Then, if X Fund plays its game and causes the stock market to crash, you will suffer severe losses."
Gu Fan had said so much, hoping for some reaction from the three bosses. They began to show signs of surprise, but then quickly regained their composure, as if they found Gu Fan’s words somewhat exaggerated.
This puzzled Gu Fan; the bosses’ reactions were vastly different from what he had anticipated. However, he persisted, hoping that the following content would be significant enough to capture the attention of the three bosses.
"Most of the companies now trading stocks with X Fund are at the end of the production chain, directly facing the market. If these companies go down, it could trigger a collapse of the entire industrial chain, which means it would affect the economy here." Gu Fan said a lot in one breath, revealing shocking information, but was disappointed once again by the calm demeanor of the three bosses.
"Is that all? If you’re finished, then I shall take my leave," said Du Changhui as he stood up, seemingly uninterested, and then he walked out without further ado.
Du Jun was anxious and tried to call Du Changhui back, but Du Changhui paid no heed, quickening his pace as if he couldn’t bear to stay a moment longer.
As Du Changhui walked past Gu Fan, the arrogant Du Changhui even avoided eye contact with Gu Fan, which tightened Gu Fan’s heart.
"Wait a minute, Boss Du, I have one more question," Gu Fan said solemnly, as if the nature of the matter had changed.
Du Changhui stopped, then turned his head coolly, "Fine, I will answer this one question for you. Think carefully before you ask."
Gu Fan smirked coldly. "I’ve been wondering why so many bosses would follow X Fund in stock trading. Do they really trust X Fund that much, aren’t they the least bit cautious?"
"Now that I see you, I understand. It’s because you’re the ones leading the way with X Fund, which is why the other bosses trusted and followed you further. But could you be so foolish? After so many years in the business, with your shrewdness and experience, wouldn’t you guard against X Fund?" Gu Fan’s words were severe, his eyes filled with rising anger as he clenched his teeth in secret.
Du Jun realized what was being suggested, then looked at Du Changhui with a surprised expression, as if asking whether what Gu Fan had said was true.
"What are you talking about? I don’t understand," Du Changhui replied indifferently, as if he had no connection to the matter.
Luo Jingrong and Boss Lei also had odd expressions on their faces. They too made no move to stay, standing up and striding out, leaving without glancing back at Gu Fan’s questioning and angered face, their behavior suggesting a hint of guilt.
Gu Fan did not let go so easily. "Answer me, in cooperating with X Fund and deceiving so many people, causing such a large impact, don’t you know? Don’t your consciences hurt? Those people trusted you, which is why they trusted X Fund."
