Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 110: Terrifying Memories

Chapter 110: Chapter 110: Terrifying Memories

At this moment, in Leng Le and Hai’s camp, they have already set up camp and were preparing to rest. They had been following Gu Fan, keeping their distance, waiting for the right moment.

Just as Leng Le was about to sleep after a long sigh, suddenly a noise sounded from her phone, instantly making her nerves on edge. Looking at the screen, a red dot was moving.

"What? What? What’s going on? Where’s this kid going in the middle of the night?" Initially, Leng Le assumed Gu Fan was just finding a spot to pee, but moments later, the red dot was still moving, and even faster than during the day, seeming to be in a hurry.

Now, Leng Le knew there was an emergency. Quickly dressing, she dashed out of the tent, yelling, "Everyone get up now, we’re departing immediately."

Hearing these words, those who were just about to fall asleep were shocked awake, and even Hai was confused, rushing over to find out what was happening.

"No time to explain. Get up now. We’re moving." In response to Leng Le’s command, everyone had to pack up and leave.

But to get the team moving again would take some time, during which Gu Fan and his group had already crossed a considerable distance. This made Leng Le extremely anxious, fearing that it would take even more time to catch up.

Although she had installed a tracker in Gu Fan’s phone, it didn’t mean everything was under control. If Gu Fan discovered the tracker, or if it malfunctioned, or if Gu Fan lost his phone. If they lost the signal and fell behind by such a considerable distance, they might never be able to catch up.

"Aren’t you ready yet? Hurry up!" Leng Le was impatient. She felt that moving with a team of more than fifty people was too slow. But because of the size of the team, the wolves could only observe from a distance and dared not approach.

After waiting for a while, everything was ready. Leng Le immediately ordered to set off. The large team, led by Leng Le, pressed ahead quickly, trying to close the gap with Gu Fan as much as possible.

Hai, having been informed of the situation, hurried to Leng Le’s side, expressing his apprehension: "Suddenly leaving in the middle of the night, did they encounter something that made them not dare to stay longer?"

"Definitely. Their movements suggested they planned to camp here, but suddenly they changed their minds and marched urgently." Leng Le also felt something was off, very off indeed.

As the team set off again and Leng Le and Hai hurriedly moved forward, Hai suddenly seemed to have spotted something. He immediately raised his arm, signaling everyone to turn off their flashlights.

"Everyone, get down!" Leng Le frowns, the first to dismount from the camel. She then crouches on the ground, observing the surroundings through her binoculars.

There seemed to be flashing lights not far ahead. It was not Gu Fan and his people. According to the signal, they were far from Leng Le. It was another group.

The lights increased; it was a long team, and they seemed not to have noticed Leng Le, Hai, and their crew. They continued on their journey, seemingly heading towards Gu Fan and his people as well.

"Could it be them?" Leng Le couldn’t be a hundred percent certain who the people up ahead were, but she had a rough idea of their identity.

Hai couldn’t help exclaiming, "I didn’t expect them to be following Gu Fan and his group like us. It seems they really have a hand in this. But why are there so few of them?"

"Yeah, they should have more than three hundred people. How come they only look like a team of twenty or so?" Leng Le was a bit puzzled. Hai voiced his speculation, "If more than three hundred people set off together, the team would be too noticeable. If I were them, I would set off in batches."

Leng Le nodded, "Makes sense, but after setting off in batches, shouldn’t they meet somewhere?"

"Don’t know, can’t figure it out? But for safety’s sake, I think we should stay here for a while. There’s no need for us to expose ourselves now." Hai looked through his binoculars repeatedly, confirming that the unknown team ahead had moved far enough away before letting everyone rise.

Just then, a scream came from the back of the team, startling everyone. Leng Le and Hai immediately ran to the back, finding a teammate sitting on the ground, face pale, and looking terrified.

"What’s going on? What happened that scared you like this?" Leng Le asked sternly. The terrified person pointed in a direction, about ten steps away. his fingers were still trembling.

Leng Le pointed in the direction mentioned, illuminating it with a flashlight. She noticed a hole in the distance, which they’d likely missed due to the darkness of the night.

The scared individual took a moment before saying: "Just now, I was standing in front of that hole. I felt something stir under my feet. When I turned around, I saw a clawed hand reaching out from the hole, as if trying to grab me. I also saw a face with a strange silhouette. But it was too dark. I didn’t see it clearly."

"You’ve got to be kidding!" Leng Le exclaimed, horrified. Hai furrowed his brows, and everyone gathered around, shining their flashlights onto the hole.

Then Leng Le spoke again: "Hai, you’re a veteran. You served here on the border. Are you aware of any such things?"

Inhaling sharply, Hai’s face was tense: "Yes, I’ve experienced it before. Once, when our platoon was out on a supply mission, our vehicle broke down halfway. It was beyond repair. We informed our base. They told us we’d be rescued the next morning. So, we decided to camp there that night. I slept inside the vehicle while others slept in tents outside. In the middle of the night, we were all asleep, when I suddenly heard a horrifying scream. I woke up immediately. At first, I thought we had run into wolves, but the low growl I heard didn’t belong to one. Also, my teammates kept shouting, ’What the hell is that?’, ’What the hell is that?’ I have never heard such terrified cries. They were filled with utter despair. Then I heard the sound of my teammates being torn apart and chewed. I was petrified and didn’t dare go out to help. When daylight arrived, I peeked out of the vehicle to see traces of blood on the ground. None of my teammates were to be found."

Upon hearing this, Leng Le’s complexion changed. The others also seemed rather disturbed, their fearful expressions hinting resolve was wavering.

"Hai, don’t tell us such horror stories. It affects our morale," said Leng Le, chilled to the bone like she’d heard a ghost story.

Hai managed a bitter smile: "You’ve known me for so long. When have you ever seen me crack a joke?"

Knowing Hai’s personality, Leng Le understood he wasn’t joking. Feeling uneasy, she broke out in a cold sweat before asking, "Really? How did you handle it afterwards?"

With a sigh, Hai shook his head in regret: "The army found and questioned me afterward. I told them everything. When we returned to base, I was called into the office. I anticipated a reprimand for not trying to save my teammates. However, our superiors told me to keep quiet about the incident and claimed we were attacked by wolves. That’s the story they shared with the outside world."

Pressing further, Leng Le asked: "So after leaving the army, you didn’t find out what happened that night?"

"No, I really didn’t," Hai affirmed with a serious expression, then continued, "I did hear some rumors about ogres in the region from some of the locals."

"Ogres? I’m getting more scared the more you talk." Leng Le’s lips turned stiff from fear, so much so that everyone around her was terrified.

Hai realized he couldn’t continue, as their fighting spirit seemed almost drained. So, he changed his tone: "However, these are just legends. No one has actually seen these. Plus, with so many of us and all these weapons, an Ogre is probably nothing more than just a slightly more ferocious creature than a wolf. Really, we have nothing to fear."

Even if Hai’s words sounded re-assuring, Leng Le sent a glance at the hole and felt uncertain. She quickly instructed, "Immediately email the boss about the current situation. We urgently need his advice."

"Even the boss can’t make it here in such a short time, we really have to rely on ourselves for this expedition," Hai took a deep breath and gave an order, "Everyone, snap out of it. Don’t let your fears overcome you. We have plenty of work to do. Let’s get moving."

Leng Le knew it was important to keep the team’s morale up, so she ordered everybody to mount their camels and set off immediately in pursuit of Gu Fan’s group, also wanting to put some distance between them and the hole. She felt an eerie sensation emanating from the hole.

"If the boy gets taken out this easily, who will lead our way?" She muttered while trailing Gu Fan, realizing that the risks in this unknown territory far exceeded her expectations.

Alike, Hai was worried for his younger brother Jie. If any accidents were to happen, he wouldn’t be able to protect his brother.

Hai kept praying that the rumors of the ogre were fabricated. But the recent hole was eerily similar to the one he remembered from his past. Could it all just be a coincidence?

Years after leaving the army, he had pushed that horrifying experience to the back of his mind. But seeing that hole again brought back all the terrifying memories, and he could almost hear the agonizing screams of his comrades echoing in his ears.

"Wait a second... Did Gu Fan and his group set off hastily because they encountered something similar?" The thought struck Hai, and his face clouded over.
