Chapter 1099: A Dance Party
Chapter 1099: Chapter 1099: A Dance Party
Today, Li Shi attended a masquerade ball at her friend’s invitation, which served as a way to relieve the stress from her busy life and work.
The ball was held in a fancy hotel, and Li Shi entered wearing an evening gown. Even though she wore a mask, her inherent elegance was undeniable. Coupled with her near-perfect proportions, she immediately caught the attention of some people.
At the ball, both men and women wore masks, hiding their identities from each other. This actually eliminated some barriers, allowing guests to interact freely without being influenced by looks or first impressions. However, whether one could strike up a conversation, enjoy the chat, and make acquaintances depended entirely on individual skill.
A band played a lovely tune, and some men and women who had found common ground made their way to the center of the hall to dance, further enhancing the atmosphere.
Li Shi ordered a glass of wine and then looked around trying to find her friend. But since everyone was masked, she couldn’t recognize anyone and tried her phone only to discover poor signal.
Just then, as Li Shi was walking without paying attention, she bumped into someone and spilled her wine on their clothes.
"I’m so sorry, excuse me," Li Shi apologized while taking out tissues from her bag to help wipe the spill.
The man smiled slightly and took over wiping himself, not minding the accident at all, "Beauty, please be more careful when walking. Luckily, you bumped into me. I’m quite magnanimous and reasonable. If it had been someone else with a bad temper, they might have picked a fight with you."
Li Shi smiled as well, "So I’m lucky to have bumped into you then."
"From another perspective, I’m the unlucky one," he replied, his interest piqued as he looked into Li Shi’s beautiful eyes under her mask, and Li Shi also found his gaze appealing.
Their eyes locked for a moment, and unbeknownst to Li Shi, her heart raced, and butterflies fluttered in her stomach, a long-lost sensation washing over her.
The man added, "Actually, being bumped into by such a beautiful woman could also be considered good luck for me."
"You haven’t even seen what I actually look like, and you call me beautiful. Do you say that to every woman you meet?" Li Shi asked, her lips curving into a smile, curious to hear his response.
The man remained calm and collected, "Judging by your eyes, your voice, and even how you stand, I can sense your charisma and confidence."
"Thank you for your compliments, though I think you must be quite ugly," Li Shi bluntly teased him.
The man nodded, "Yes, I suppose I am a bit subpar in looks. Simply put, you are the flower, and I am the cow dung. It’s unexpected that this flower would bump into a pile like me, perhaps it’s fate’s arrangement."
"What do you mean by that?" Li Shi pretended to be annoyed but soon couldn’t help smiling.
The man glanced at his shirt stained with red wine, somewhat sighing, "It looks like I’m in for an awkward evening."
Feeling a bit guilty, Li Shi apologized again, "I’m sorry, it wasn’t intentional."
"It’s okay, I was just casually strolling around anyway." Just as the man finished speaking, the band changed the song.
When Li Shi heard the new song, her eyes lit up as if she really liked it.
"It seems like you really enjoy this piece!" the man then explained the piece meticulously, capturing Li Shi’s heart with his words.
Back in high school, when everyone else was listening to pop songs, Li Shi had a preference for classical music, which led to Gu Fan teasing her.
Later, Li Shi was so angry that she didn’t speak to Gu Fan for an entire day; she even sped up her way home after school and stopped walking with him, rendering his apologies useless.
To appease Li Shi, Gu Fan had hastily learned about classical music, especially about her favorite piece, and eventually, he was able to regain a common topic of conversation with her.
The man’s narration about this classical music piece now was almost exactly like Gu Fan’s from back then, nearly giving Li Shi an illusion.
"Though my clothes are stained with red wine, which might embarrass me a bit, I’d like to ask you to dance with me. I think if I have such a beautiful woman dancing with me, no one will mind the wine on my clothes," the man said with a polite smile, then extended his hand.
Li Shi hesitated briefly, then extended her hand too. Led by the man, they walked to the center of the hall and began to move to the music.
Just standing face to face and locking eyes as if they knew what the other was about to do, the unspoken understanding was there even before they started.
The first move of the dance, the strength emanating from the man felt like a refreshing stream, flowing through Li Shi’s body, making her feel almost weightless, and she was unknowingly led by him.
Under the man’s lead, their dance was as smooth and natural as flowing clouds and water, filled with tacit understanding. Li Shi’s elegance and the man’s masculinity complemented each other, overshadowing everyone around and quickly becoming the center of attention.
As their steps and movements shifted, the physical contact made Li Shi’s heart race uncontrollably, the feeling growing stronger and stronger. Looking into his eyes, she felt deeply captivated.
The man firmly held Li Shi’s hand, his gaze steadfast as if to tell her, "Tonight, you are mine."
In the crowd of onlookers, there was a woman whose look was not one of admiration but of disdain.
The duration of the dance was short, yet it left the most profound impression on everyone that evening. When Li Shi and the man finished dancing, the whole room erupted into thunderous applause.
Li Shi didn’t pay attention to the gazes of the people around her but stared at the masked man in front of her in disbelief, even curious to see what he looked like.
The man smiled faintly, then walked past Li Shi toward the entrance of the hall, not saying a word as he left.
Li Shi’s gaze still lingered on him until he disappeared from sight, and only then did she come back to her senses, feeling somewhat melancholic.
At that moment, Li Shi desperately wanted to know who he was, somewhat tempted to follow him. But considering the many onlookers, she dismissed the idea, adjusted her mood, returned to a corner, and picking up a glass of wine, began to speculate, "Thinking of using desire to trap me, dream on?"
Meanwhile, just as the man had stepped out of the hotel, he changed his mask for a disguise, just as a car arrived.
Leng Le rolled down the car window, visibly annoyed, "You can chase girls all you want, but to make me your driver? Are you serious?"
