Chapter 1085: Chapter 1085: Strange Movements
That day, Su Hui had requested a day off and specifically went to spend time with a college friend who had recently graduated from the police academy; the two met for afternoon tea at a restaurant.
Since it had been a long time, the two chatted on length. In their line of work, once the conversation turned to work-related matters, such as what cases they were currently handling, it was really hard to stop because there was just too much to talk about.
Her college friend mentioned a case she had just handled, where an elderly couple reported their son missing. Upon investigation, it turned out that their son had taken the wrong path and joined a gang. Because his parents disapproved, he had cut off all contact with them after joining the gang, which left his parents with no choice but to report him missing.
For Su Hui, it was hardly surprising; such incidents were common. After all, how could gangs call for fights if they weren’t recruiting young people? Surely they couldn’t expect older people to grab their walking sticks and fight for territory.
However, what her classmate said next caught Su Hui’s attention. According to the investigation, the boss of this gang was a woman known as Sister Leng, and it seemed she was from the same city as Su Hui.
Su Hui frowned, her first suspect being Leng Le. She remembered Gu Fan mentioning that Leng Le was apparently reorganizing the gang.
After their pleasant meeting, Su Hui dropped her classmate off at the airport, then rushed home. Fortunately, Gu Fan was there too, so she told him everything.
"Could it be that Leng Le is really up to something big?" Gu Fan stroked his chin in thought, then shook his head, "Let’s just leave it be. As long as it doesn’t concern us, it’s fine. I don’t want to meddle too much; I just want to live peacefully."
Su Hui, somewhat concerned, asked, "What if something Leng Le does eventually affects you? Are you really not going to check into it?"
To this, Gu Fan shook his head, "This doesn’t seem like Leng Le’s style. Why would Leng Le set up gangs in two cities and recruit members? Besides, Sister Su, you know how Leng Le used to recruit under the big boss’s command. They always targeted people new to this city, those who had fallout with their families and lost contact, and had no foothold in this city. People like that, even if something happens, no one would care or investigate."
Su Hui thought about it, and it made sense; her classmate mentioned that the son was still in contact with his parents when he joined the gang, and it was only due to their disapproval that he cut off communication. Plus, even after losing contact, the parents still tried everything to track down their son, so this didn’t fit the usual criteria for Leng Le’s recruitment.
"Could it be that the other city has a different Sister Leng?" That was the only explanation Su Hui could come up with at that point.
Gu Fan also urged Su Hui not to overthink it. As long as the big boss wasn’t up to no good, Leng Le alone wouldn’t be able to cause much trouble. Currently, all their focus should be on Organization X, which Gu Fan felt was not only refusing to leave but also settling in.
Su Hui mentioned, "If this X Fund really is connected to Organization X, then the entry of X Fund into this city signals one thing. Organization X plans to wage a prolonged battle here, and it is very likely aimed at you, Gu Fan."
Gu Fan agreed with her, and it was likely targeting the Destiny Stone; however, the Destiny Stone was after all, property of the Gu family, fought for by the second granduncle. Would the second granduncle simply watch Organization X take away the Destiny Stone?
"Recently, my parents visited the second granduncle, and I don’t know what they talked about. But my parents have already returned to work abroad. Therefore, it seems that Organization X has not troubled my parents, and they might not be targeting me or the Destiny Stone?" Though Gu Fan said this, he was still somewhat worried.
But Su Hui thought differently, "Your parents are overseas, and with Organization X’s capabilities, they could capture your parents at any time. Thus, the fact that your parents could meet with your second granduncle and then safely return to their jobs is not surprising. However, it’s the second granduncle’s attitude that matters."
"My intuition tells me that I can trust the second granduncle and Helen, but I can’t trust Organization X." Gu Fan’s words initially confused Su Hui, but she soon understood the implication, "You’re worried that if Organization X decides to harm you, even your granduncle might not be able to intervene."
"Second granduncle doesn’t have the X Family bloodline, and his status isn’t the highest," once Gu Fan said this, he noticed his hands were slightly trembling, immediately a bad premonition surfaced.
"It looks like I should visit my second granduncle," Gu Fan decided, seeking peace of mind, that he needed to face the danger head-on.
Suddenly, Su Hui felt overwhelmed by the multitude of issues, "Wait, I’m already quite busy at work, now I need to be concerned about Lin Xi’s brother, keep an eye on Organization X’s movements, and beware of any tricks from Leng Le, and on top of that..." Su Hui abruptly stopped, almost spilling the secret of the mysterious masked person arriving in the city.
Gu Fan, aware it was not wise to burden Su Hui further, then said, "Sister Su, just focus on your job. Lin Xi said she would handle her brother’s situation herself. Let me take care of Organization X’s matters and let’s put aside concerns about Leng Le for now."
Seeing Gu Fan’s nonchalant attitude, Su Hui breathed a sigh of relief when suddenly Gu Fan asked, "Wait, Sister Su, was there anything else you haven’t mentioned?"
"Ah... that... it’s just work-related stuff, you don’t need to worry about it," Su Hui replied, though a bit evasively, but Gu Fan didn’t dwell on it, acknowledging there were indeed many issues to handle currently.
"As long as Organization X doesn’t cause trouble and lets us live in peace, no matter how many issues arise, I’m not worried," Gu Fan said, then stood up, stretching leisurely.
Despite saying this, Gu Fan harbored another concern: why Leng Le was rebuilding the gang in this city, and if the Sister Leng in the other city was the same as Leng Le, why there was a change in her recruitment standards—a deviation from the norm often indicated something fishy.
Gu Fan reasoned that lowering recruitment standards suggested either a shortage of personnel or a special need for this individual that made him irreplaceable.
The shortage of personnel was quickly ruled out, leaving only one option; however, just how special was this person that Leng Le would go to great lengths to recruit him, and even in different cities, meaning Leng Le needed more than one such unique individual.
"What exactly are you up to, ex-girlfriend?" Just as Gu Fan was worried, Su Hui suddenly received a call that at a certain place, two gangs had clashed fiercely, injuring many people. Several ambulances had been sent out, and one of the gangs seemed to be the one Lin Yue was in.
