Chapter 1072: Chapter 1072: Younger Brothers and Sisters
Lin Yue returned home, and the first thing he did was take a bath to get back into his normal state; he didn’t want Gu Fan or Su Hui to notice anything was wrong.
But just as Lin Yue had returned to his room and was about to lie down, the bedroom door was kicked open violently by Su Hui, and Lin Yue watched in shock as she stormed in with a fierce aura.
Su Hui grabbed Lin Yue by the shirt and interrogated him, "Tell me, what exactly happened last night? Why have Boss He and his trusted lieutenants all disappeared? Why has Boss Hong taken over all of Boss He’s territory?"
"I, I don’t know," Lin Yue replied, somewhat panicked. He hadn’t expected Su Hui to get the news so quickly; perhaps he had underestimated her work.
Upon hearing the commotion, Gu Fan quickly came to find out what was going on. Seeing Su Hui questioning Lin Yue like a criminal, he knew something must have happened.
Su Hui then added, "Lin Yue, I’m doing this for your own good. Now that such a big incident has occurred, if you get involved, I really can’t help you. You’ve finally reunited with your family; you don’t want to be separated from them again because of this, do you?"
"Sister Su, I really don’t know anything," Lin Yue didn’t know how to deal with the situation, so he could only claim ignorance.
Su Hui, sharp-eyed as ever, saw Lin Yue’s evasive gaze and knew he was lying. She emphasized her words, "If you tell me now, I might still have time to figure out a way to help you. Don’t think that all of us in this line of work are soft targets. It wouldn’t be difficult to deal with your Boss Hong. I just want to avoid harming you as much as possible when we take down Boss Hong."
Gu Fan, listening on the side, inwardly praised Su Hui’s cleverness. Her stern tone, combined with appeals to emotion and logic, would surely make Lin Yue talk.
Seeing that Lin Yue remained silent, Su Hui pretended to have no other choice, and began dialing Lin Xi’s cell phone, "If you won’t tell me, let’s have your sister ask you."
"No, don’t tell my Older Sister," Lin Yue surrendered and then recounted everything that had happened.
Su Hui and Gu Fan, now knowing the whole story, sighed deeply. Boss Hong was too ruthless, using any means necessary for victory, even sacrificing his most loyal subordinates.
Lin Yue gave a bitter smile, "Yes, I didn’t expect Boss Hong to be that kind of person, and Brother Jin and I had followed the wrong boss."
Gu Fan then asked Su Hui, "What do we do now? We probably don’t have any evidence against Boss Hong yet, right?"
Su Hui shook her head, "Boss Hong has people backing him, so we can’t act rashly against him, but that’s not the biggest problem. After all, even those who were backing the big boss were dealt with in the end."
"Then what’s the biggest issue?" Gu Fan was curious, as even the big boss’s influence in this city had been uprooted, let alone a small fry like Boss Hong.
Su Hui explained, "The big boss had to be taken down because his influence was too great, whereas Boss Hong is a minor character who won’t cause major upheaval. Besides, there are many like Boss Hong. And from what I’ve investigated, this guy doesn’t do things that disturb public order or oppress ordinary people. Compared to other more high-profile bosses, he’s actually quite low-key."
Gu Fan understood then that their manpower was limited on Su Hui’s side. They needed to deal with the more ostentatious bosses first, and those like Boss Hong, who were more low-profile, would be dealt with later.
Lin Yue, not understanding, wondered how Boss Hong could still be considered low-profile after all this.
Su Hui continued, "Has your Boss Hong ever caused havoc in public spaces, or openly flaunted his gang’s Qi by holding grand feasts for everyone to see?"
After thinking it over carefully, Lin Yue shook his head. Then he realized something — the constant rise and fall of many gangs in the city, with only Boss Hong enduring, wasn’t without reason.
Gu Fan suddenly thought of something, "What’s the difference between our city’s gangs and those foreign ones?"
Su Hui replied, "You’ve experienced it; you should know the difference."
Upon hearing this, Lin Yue was flabbergasted. What did she mean by ’you’ve experienced it’? Just what was she getting at? Could it be that Gu Fan...
"So, to take down Boss Hong, the best method would be to make him start acting ostentatiously," Gu Fan mused, stroking his chin thoughtfully. Then he looked seriously at Lin Yue and asked, "Lin Yue, listen well, do you want to follow the path of the orthodoxy sects, or do you want to keep associating with Boss Hong and his lot? Do you want to continue your former life, or do you want to start a brand new life with your family?"
Lin Yue fell silent for a long time, not answering. Su Hui said, "Gu Fan, don’t you understand? The fact that Lin Yue didn’t let me tell Lin Xi about this is his best answer."
Lin Yue then nodded, "Yes, I no longer want to continue with my old life. I want to be with my family, but I can’t just walk away. Boss Hong won’t let me go, and I don’t want to drag my family into this."
"Good, that’s all we need to hear. We’ll help you," Gu Fan agreed, satisfied with Lin Yue’s attitude.
Su Hui nodded, "Alright, don’t worry too much, we’ll help you. But you need to do two things: first, provide information, and second, try not to get involved in anything that would put you in danger."
"Okay, I’ll remember that," Lin Yue had just finished speaking when Gu Fan thought of a crucial point, "Considering your current situation, it would be best for you to move out. If Boss Hong finds out you’re living under the same roof as Su Hui, that would be terrible."
Su Hui agreed with this, but they had to discuss it with Lin Xi, after all, they had to explain it to the Lin Family parents.
Lin Yue objected, "But didn’t we agree not to let my sister know?"
"Well, about that... The last time you saw your Older Sister in the underworld, don’t you think it’s time to stop hiding things from her?" Gu Fan said with an embarrassed look, which made Lin Yue realize what he meant.
Lin Yue could only nod in resignation, "Alright, since my Older Sister knows I’m still involved with Boss Hong’s gang, I don’t want to hide it from her anymore. But on one condition: absolutely don’t let my parents know, and don’t involve my sister. I don’t want them to be in danger."
"That’s the spirit," Gu Fan was pleased with Lin Yue’s consideration for his family’s safety.
Just as they were about to notify Lin Xi, they heard shouting from outside, "Brother, I’m back. Sister Su, are you home?"
"You’ve got to be kidding me, not now," Gu Fan slapped his forehead, feeling a headache coming on.
Lin Yue was puzzled, "There’s a visitor, and it seems to be your sister."
Gu Fan chuckled awkwardly, "Yeah, Lin Xi has a brother, and I have a sister. Everybody has brothers or sisters; it gives us more in common. Plus, my sister and you have one thing in common – both of you are challenging to deal with."
