Chapter 1046: Chapter 1046: The Beautiful Reporter
After returning to normal life, Gu Fan, through relentless nagging and persuasion, finally convinced Du Jun and Boss Ding to let him come back to the company. This made Gu Fan extremely grateful, so he gave each of them a hug.
However, considering that Gu Fan was a recent college graduate who had not worked at the company for a long time, he was assigned a fairly entry-level job.
Gu Fan said he didn’t mind; as long as he could do the things he wanted, everything was negotiable.
Although Gu Fan was a minor shareholder in the company, this was not made public, so the company’s employees only knew of two shareholders, Du Jun and Boss Ding. This meant that when Gu Fan was assigned to work under a manager, the manager did not take him very seriously.
According to Gu Fan’s plan, the investment company’s main business was divided into two parts: one was investing in the financial sector, which Boss Ding excelled at, and the other was investing in small but promising startups, which Du Jun’s father’s company was skilled in.
Combining Boss Ding’s resources with Du Jun’s, and waging war on both fronts, they would gain capital from financial investments and use it to support the growth and development of promising small companies.
But while the vision was beautiful, reality had proved much less so. Boss Ding’s financial investments had suffered one loss after another, and the small companies that Du Jun had invested in were not faring well either. In short, the company had been losing money for several months in a row.
After learning about this, Gu Fan felt that if he had come a few months later, the company would probably have to shut down.
At this point, Gu Fan realized that he had oversimplified things. If Boss Ding really had that capability, he wouldn’t have ended up in such a dire situation, repeatedly crying to Boss Lei for help. As for Du Jun, also being a recent college graduate, even with guidance from his father, he lacked experience and his judgment might not be sound. It was unlikely that he could pick a small company, and it would genuinely flourish.
It seemed that Boss Ding and Du Jun were already prepared to disband the company. Now, with finances tight, the choice lay between following Boss Ding’s suggestion to invest further in finance or Du Jun’s preference to continue supporting their small companies.
Gu Fan wanted to mediate, but he couldn’t come up with any reasonable plan either.
With no other option, and feeling guilty, Gu Fan recalled that it was he who had persuaded Boss Ding and Du Jun to collaborate. With the company in trouble and Gu Fan not there to help much, he felt particularly remorseful.
So, Gu Fan decided to do something. He started studying the current financial situation, then investigated the market environment of those small companies.
Gu Fan spent three full days on this, only to realize that his abilities were limited and he could not see any chance for a turnaround.
"It seems I overestimated myself." Gu Fan, who wanted to impress in the corporate world, faced difficulties and was left without a solution. He suddenly realized that he was just a recent college graduate with no experience, and that mere enthusiasm was not enough.
Reality was that harsh, Du Jun could no longer turn to his father for more funds. If the company went under, Du Jun would have to follow his father’s wishes and work for his father’s company, making it difficult for him to prove himself.
That evening, everyone else had left the office, but Gu Fan stayed behind to think. He wanted to try harder because he knew it was his responsibility.
As Du Jun was leaving, he saw Gu Fan still unwilling to go and knew what Gu Fan was thinking about. So he came over to comfort him, "It’s okay, Gu Fan. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. The company’s situation today is due to Boss Ding and my errors in decision-making. This has nothing to do with you."
To this, Gu Fan shook his head, "I was the one who urged you to start this company with Boss Ding. Now that the company is in such a loss, you shouldn’t have listened to me. You should have spent more time learning something at your dad’s company before starting your own business."
Patting Gu Fan on the shoulder, Du Jun said, "Do you know? When I was working at my dad’s company, many people thought I had no ability and just had a good dad. At that time, I felt indignant and arrogant. I thought I was capable and not just what everyone imagined. So when you asked me to start my own business, I wanted to show everyone what I could achieve after making it on my own. But, as you can see, the company is in the state it’s in now. After so many wrong decisions, I’ve come to realize they were right; I really don’t have much ability. I’ve since discovered how ridiculous my previous arrogance was."
Gu Fan knew that Du Jun said this to comfort him, which made him feel even worse. Now, unable to find any solution, they could only take one step at a time.
"Alright, stop thinking about it. Let’s go eat," Du Jun said with a smile, and Gu Fan nodded in agreement.
The next day at work, Gu Fan received a task to entertain a journalist coming for an interview, and to have a good discussion about the current market situation.
Gu Fan thought that this type of task was better suited for someone more professional. Why would they pick a junior employee like him?
Boss Ding’s reasoning was simple, he believed the company was probably going to shut down for good. If Boss Ding appeared on camera now talking confidently about market conditions, it would be a source of ridicule if he tried to start another business later.
You point out the course of the river with bold arrogance, looking confident and passionate, and then your company goes under. Are you really competent or not?
After understanding Boss Ding’s intentions and looking at the managers who were not willing to do the interview for the same reasons, fearing for their future prospects, the task fell onto Gu Fan.
With no choice left, he reluctantly took on the responsibility, silently praying that the interviewers at his future job applications wouldn’t have watched this interview.
The journalists who were there for the interview had arrived as scheduled and had been arranged in the company’s reception room. They specialized in finance and economics, were very professional in financial and economic matters, and might even know more than Gu Fan in certain aspects, which increased his pressure.
Now it was Gu Fan’s turn to face them. He was sharply dressed in a suit and looked spirited, but he was uncertain inside, fearing that what he said would just sound like a joke to them.
"Alright, I’m counting on you now. You’re the face of our company today, Gu Fan. Go for it." After saying this, Boss Ding gave Gu Fan a push, which felt like pushing him into a pit of fire.
As the time approached, Gu Fan took a deep breath and then walked into the reception room to greet the journalists. But when he saw one of the female journalists, he was stunned. Wasn’t she the one from his high school days?
