Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 1044: Life in a Mess
Chapter 1044: Chapter 1044: Life in a Mess
A month had passed, and everyone was leading a peaceful life: some were working, others were vacationing, and some were dating. Only Lin Xi’s life was still a bit chaotic.
First of all, Qian Ye had been posting on Moments under Lin Xi’s name without end, some posts were subtle, others were direct. For example, Qian Ye posted a hint suggesting she was living alone, which led many to speculate that Lin Xi was single. This triggered a swarm of suitors who began to make moves on Lin Xi and sent flowers and gifts. Lin Xi had to politely reject each one, until she, who was usually low-key and rarely flaunted her relationship, had to repost on Moments, thanking her boyfriend for his support along the way. Only then did the suitors back off.
One thing that made Lin Xi feel very wronged was that some of her close girlfriends and old classmates posted on Moments, and that jerk Qian Ye mocked them in the comments, almost ruining Lin Xi’s popularity.
For instance, one time when Qin Jia and Du Jun went out for a meal and posted on Moments, Qian Ye sarcastically commented that Qin Jia was vain and materialistic, almost causing Qin Jia to block Lin Xi. But then Qin Jia thought it over—it was Lin Xi who had brought her and Du Jun together.
If it weren’t for their previous good relationship and Qin Jia checking in on it, she might have cut ties with Lin Xi.
Then there were her colleagues at work, who were usually quite pleasant to Lin Xi but were now giving her the cold shoulder. Lin Xi had a rough idea why, so she scrolled through her colleagues’ Moments and sure enough, it was Qian Ye’s handiwork.
When Lin Xi looked at her boss’s Moments, she was about to explode. What the hell was this? That bastard Qian Ye actually encouraged the boss to find a mistress—what would the colleagues think when they saw it? That Lin Xi was hinting for the boss to take care of her? So, Lin Xi quickly found a new job.
The most troubling thing for Lin Xi was how to deal with her parents. Upon returning home, they asked what secret place she had been working at during this time.
After dealing with one issue after another, Lin Xi was so busy she was spinning around. She couldn’t help but complain that Qian Ye had made a mess of her life.
It wasn’t until later that Lin Xi understood why Qian Ye was doing this—Qian Ye was prepared to lose, so she wanted to make sure that even if Lin Xi won, she couldn’t return to her former life.
Looking at everyone’s Moments, Lin Xi felt left out as she wasn’t invited to the dormitory gatherings, and she felt the urge to cry, thinking Qian Ye had gone too far.
Lin Xi thought about going to apologize in person, but some things were simply inexplicable, and it seemed that she would lose many close girlfriends and former classmates.
"Qian Ye, you’re ruthless," Lin Xi said, most annoyed by the feeling that she was sabotaging herself.
Now, Lin Xi couldn’t find many girlfriends to accompany her shopping, she could only rely on Qin Jia, Su Hui, and Gu Ling. Fortunately, the loss wasn’t too great; having these three was enough.
They all comforted Lin Xi, urging her to take heart and suggesting she might make new friends later on.
"Thank you all for being with me when I felt most helpless. I hate Qian Ye." Lin Xi still felt aggrieved and wanted to cry.
Su Hui simply said, "Alright, now you still have to hope that Qian Ye does her job well in ancient times, because that’s the precondition for your existence. In reality, you two are actually the same person."
"The most infuriating part is exactly that—I can’t even curse her," Lin Xi sighed heavily.
But talking about the experiences of this period, they were simply too dramatic, especially when Lin Xi learned about the commotion Gu Fan and Su Hui caused abroad, making the entire city lively. Lin Xi couldn’t imagine how Gu Fan and Su Hui had made their way back.
This time Lin Xi was able to come back thanks to everyone’s effort and persistence. Although Qian Ye’s reckless actions caused Lin Xi to lose a lot, she also gained a lot. Having everyone by her side means more than anything.
Su Hui then asked a question, "I’ve noticed that Gu Fan has been very busy lately, always working late and I haven’t seen you two have time to date."
To this, Lin Xi shook her head and sighed, "I can’t stay at my previous job, I need to find new work, and I need to get my life back on track. Gu Fan also has to strive for his career, naturally leaving us less time for dates."
Gu Ling also chimed in, "It’s okay, you and my brother will have plenty of time together in the future."
Lin Xi nodded, her face filled with a happy smile. Meeting Gu Fan in this life was truly wonderful.
Qin Jia became curious, "Speaking of which, your relationship with Gu Fan seems almost ready to bear fruit, I’m thinking whether you guys should..."
Upon hearing this, Lin Xi felt a bit embarrassed and said softly, "Well, that’s of course something for the guy to arrange. I won’t worry about that."
"Exactly, let my brother take care of it. But I can hint to my brother for you, like maybe starting with getting some wedding photos taken," Gu Ling said with a coy look, much to Lin Xi’s delight, "Alright, Xiaoling, when it’s all set, I’ll definitely treat you to a meal."
"Sure, I can’t wait for you to become my sister-in-law," Gu Ling said with a beaming smile, which made Lin Xi blush.
Qin Jia then interjected, "How about this, since you and Gu Fan are going to be together sooner or later, why don’t you just move in with him?"
"Yes, that would be great, more people means more fun," exclaimed Gu Ling excitedly, clapping her hands to show her welcome.
But Lin Xi shook her head, "That won’t work, my parents would break my legs."
Everyone couldn’t help but laugh at this comment, who would have thought Lin Xi, who knew magic and had once been a queen in a previous life, would be so afraid of her parents.
Su Hui spoke a little less, mainly listening, as most of the conversation was about when Gu Fan and Lin Xi would get married, and it seemed to be happening soon.
After the get-together, Gu Ling had to go to school to see a teacher, Qin Jia to find Du Jun, and Lin Xi needed to get home on time. After the four women said their goodbyes, Su Hui walked alone on the street, lost in thought.
For some reason, seeing how increasingly happy Gu Fan and Lin Xi were, Su Hui felt a slight sourness in her heart. Their relationship was so strong, they had someone worth guarding for a lifetime, while she was alone.
A feeling of desolation made Su Hui deeply melancholic. After Yuan Cheng there was Zhuo Hang, neither relationship leading to a fruitful outcome, both very hurtful.
Arriving at the old house, Su Hui glanced at Gu Fan’s room, then at the balcony. On many nights, when she was exhausted and in need of support, it was Gu Fan who stood by her side offering the greatest support.
Su Hui sighed, a trace of melancholy on her face. She knew that the relationship between Gu Fan and Lin Xi was stable and unless something unexpected happened, they were likely to enter the palace of marriage. Su Hui shouldn’t be thinking about it anymore, but she couldn’t help feeling a bit of reluctance. Could fate really be so shallow?
