Chapter 1008: Going Separate Ways

Chapter 1008: Chapter 1008: Going Separate Ways

Day broke, and Lin Xi immediately finished grooming. Her luggage was ready, and her resolve to find Gu Fan hardened.

However, as Lin Xi stepped out of her room, she saw Jian Shen, Lu Bei, and Jin Yi also picking up their luggage and weapons, prepared to leave, leaving Lin Xi surprised. She hurried after them, "Where are you all going?"

Jin Yi let out a yawn, clearly still drowsy, and said lacklusterly, "Master said we’re going to look for the second batch of Western vampires."

Hearing this, Lin Xi felt puzzled, "What’s going on? Didn’t we agree to wait for the right moment, to stay hidden here and wait for the opportunity? Going out now wouldn’t that alert the vampires to our whereabouts?"

"I’m not sure myself, Master called me up early in the morning." Jin Yi scratched his head, a confused expression on his face, "Strange, Sister Qian Ye, didn’t Master tell you about it?"

Lin Xi was taken aback, then glanced at Jian Shen, only to see that he was actually acting indifferent, even turning his back, not knowing what was wrong with Jian Shen, it felt very off.

Jin Yi asked another question, "Sister Qian Ye, you’re also carrying luggage, where are you going?"

"This..." For a moment, Lin Xi didn’t know what to say, she looked at Jian Shen again, but he showed no sign of paying her any attention.

Lu Bei was also clueless; everything was fine last night, but now it was as if Jian Shen had become a different person. Gently nudging Jian Shen with his elbow, Lu Bei cautiously said, "Old pal, what’s wrong? Who made you angry?"

"It’s nothing, I just think that waiting around isn’t a solution, we should go out and look for some clues. As long as we’re careful, we won’t be discovered," Jian Shen said. Although his reasoning made some sense, it still felt off. The decision was too sudden and he hadn’t discussed it with anyone.

Lin Xi was not reassured, "Okay, I’ll come with you."

Both Lu Bei and Jin Yi saw no problem with this, and believed that everyone should stick together. But unexpectedly, Jian Shen said indifferently, "No need, you don’t have to follow us."

Upon hearing these words, Lin Xi was stunned in place, unable to recover for a long time. She had no idea what she had done wrong to make Jian Shen reject her like this.

Lu Bei and Jin Yi looked between Jian Shen and Lin Xi, not understanding what was going on with the couple.

"Let’s go!" With that, Jian Shen began to walk ahead, seeming to carry a bit of anger, making Lu Bei and Jin Yi feel awkward, but they still chose to follow.

Lin Xi snapped back to reality and tried to catch up, "Wait, wait for me."

Suddenly, Jian Shen stopped, then turned around with a faint look and gazed at Lin Xi, saying, "You should go find Gu Fan instead."

Hearing this, Lin Xi’s heart sank to the bottom. She could only watch as Jian Shen walked away with large strides, his retreating figure filled with an indescribable inner pain and loss.

"Love kills, man," Lu Bei couldn’t help but exclaim, then pulled at Jin Yi.

"Take care, Sister Qian Ye," said Jin Yi, not wanting things to end like this, but at this point, he didn’t know what else to do.

Lin Xi stood desolately on the spot, sighing to the skies. She never knew why things had gone so wrong. She had only wanted to mend her regrets, never intending to hurt Jian Shen, but somehow, it had all turned out this way.

"What exactly did I do wrong?" Lin Xi couldn’t help but ask herself, now worried about both Gu Fan and Jian Shen, with her heart feeling like it had been torn in two.

A detached voice answered her question, "Your mistake lies in trying to perfectly balance two relationships when, in fact, you can only be responsible for one."

"Is it you?" Lin Xi could never forget that voice. She turned around coldly to see the mysterious masked person standing in the corner, looking nonchalant.

Although the other party wore a mask, Lin Xi still sensed their schadenfreude, so she questioned aloud, "Was it you scheming behind my back?"

To this, the mysterious masked person said indifferently, "I meant well. Seeing you struggle between two relationships made me want to help you out."

"You help me? So you went ahead and told Jian Shen everything, making all my efforts in vain," Lin Xi said angrily, having called upon her supernatural power, ready to lash out despite knowing she was outmatched.

But the mysterious masked person remained unimpressed, "Is everything you did referring to continuing to impersonate Qian Ye and deceiving Jian Shen’s feelings?"

Upon hearing these words, Lin Xi froze, a mix of guilt and panic flashing in her eyes.

The mysterious masked person added another sentence, "You not only intend to deceive Jian Shen but also entangle yourself deeply. The result is that you will let down both relationships."

"This is my business, not yours." As the conversation progressed, Lin Xi was shocked and quickly asked, "You’re not going to tell Jian Shen that I’m not the real Sister Qian Ye, are you?"

The mysterious masked person shook their head, "Of course not. How could I possibly reveal your real identity to Jian Shen? Tell him you are Qian Ye’s reincarnation, that you have traveled back from the future? Please, that would alter history; I still have a sense of the bigger picture."

"Thanks for your sense of the bigger picture," Lin Xi said through gritted teeth, hating this mysterious masked fiend.

"Alright, go find Gu Fan and then hurry back to your own time. Since it’s a regret, let it always remain a regret. Don’t think about making amends, don’t do anything unnecessary." The mysterious masked person’s suggestion was sensible, and Lin Xi took it into account, but she still had doubts, "I don’t know where Gu Fan is now, where should I go looking for him?"

"That’s your problem, figure it out yourself," the mysterious masked person replied with an indifferent tone that annoyed Lin Xi. Suddenly, she thought of something, "You are urging us to go back, but what are you doing staying in ancient times? You say you have a sense of the bigger picture, aren’t you afraid that staying in the ancient era for too long will affect history?"

The mysterious masked person’s voice grew stern as they issued a warning, "Lin Xi, you are a smart woman. You’d better not ask questions you shouldn’t."

Lin Xi smiled slightly, "I have a premonition that you’re eager for Gu Fan and me to return to our original time so that no one will be left in ancient times to interfere with your plans."

A chill flashed in the mysterious masked person’s eyes, "You know, some people are very clever, but others die from their cleverness."

Lin Xi knew from the tone that her guess was right and felt like she had finally scored a point, "You’re right, some people are smart but are foiled by their own cleverness. This phrase is not only for me but for you too. Let’s both take it to heart."

The mysterious masked person was furious, fists clenched, seemingly on the verge of taking action. Yet, after a long while, they managed to restrain themselves, turned around, stepped lightly and soared into the air. Before leaving, they did not forget to say, "I have said all I have to say. Consider it yourself."
