Chapter 281: Chapter 253 Confrontation_2
As long as they were killed, nothing would stop him from destroying the Altar Tower... A bloodthirsty gleam flashed in Lucien’s eyes, and he took a step forward, beginning to sprint towards those vapor-formed creatures.
But after only two steps, Lucien slammed on the brakes.
Then he lifted his head to look into the void, revealing a radiant smile. After that, Lucien extended his right hand and gave the void the middle finger.
"You almost got me there," Lucien murmured softly, silently addressing the goblin priest who was peering at the scene. Although he wasn’t sure the international gesture would be understood, sometimes... what mattered most was his own satisfaction.
However, at this moment Lucien still felt some trepidation, for the goblin priest’s attack had been silent, and he was caught somewhat off guard.
Just like a moment ago, the goblin priest had used the tactic that affected his emotions, twisting and amplifying his competitive desire!
If it weren’t for the effect of the Order Laws that were still with him, minimizing the influence of this desire to a mere excitement rather than an impulse, he might’ve been tangled up with those thirteen vapor creatures by now, possibly leading to some unfavorable event.
"Let me guess, how long can you maintain this state? An hour? A quarter of an hour? Or even shorter?" Lucien stopped leisurely and adjusted his clothes, "I guess it won’t be long before your presence is fully exposed. Heh... what becomes of a fat fish that sneaks into a trap to feed?"
"I’ll give you this, you’ve got something there, kid," the goblin priest’s voice now calm. The earlier anger, irritability, and helplessness had vanished.
As a being capable of playing with and even controlling the enemy’s emotions, the goblin priest naturally wouldn’t make any basic mistakes in this aspect. To him, emotions were a weapon, whether his own or the opponent’s.
Whoosh—The thirteen vapor figures disappeared in an instant, then coalesced into a somewhat blurred, diminutive figure who didn’t feel evil, but instead felt comfortable and friendly to those around, like a kindly old man in the sun, flicked by a light breeze.
But the unique structure of the old man’s ears quickly allowed Lucien to confirm his identity, for this was the appearance of the goblin priest.
"As you can see, my ability to alter the time on the slate is extremely limited, but... I believe I can hang on longer than that little guy. Hmm... To think that a Wizard and an Order Mage from the Grey Mist Civilization could cooperate, interesting... yes, quite intriguing."
The goblin priest chuckled, clapping his hands lightly. Though no sound emanated, this composed and serene demeanor caused Lucien’s heart to sink slightly.
He instinctively wanted to look back and check on the state of the Judge’s Paper-man, but Lucien quickly abandoned the idea, forcing himself to remain calm and continue the standoff with the goblin priest.
After all, facing an opponent who could affect and manipulate emotions, he couldn’t afford to give any such advantage on a mental level.
"I share a similar idea, but a short-term alliance is nothing more than that, not a conflict," Lucien regathered his thoughts and looked toward the goblin priest, only to find that the other had conjured up a set of table and chairs at some point, now sitting leisurely as if he were not speaking to Lucien but an old friend of many years.
"Care for some?" the goblin priest said with a light laugh, pouring an unidentified beverage that looked a bit like broth onto a table fashioned from grey-white vapor.
He self-assuredly poured a drink for Lucien while swiftly pinching out a "chair" for Lucien to sit on, "Since you’re confident, and I am too, let’s sit down and see, shall it be the Dream Rules that capture me first, or will that Order Mage from the Grey Mist Civilization falter before that."
When the goblin priest uttered these words, there was a trace of composure on his face. He took a gentle sip of the drink before him, displaying an expression of utter enjoyment.
"You don’t seem to fear death," Lucien said, not accepting the strange beverage offered by the other party but instead cautiously observing the goblin priest, seeking to discover more details.
"Death? For me, it simply means returning to the embrace of the Mother of Chaos. I will continue to live within Her divine kingdom and, in the distant future, be reborn. It is fate, as well as my deepest desire," the goblin priest replied, setting down his soup bowl with calm, even devout, eyes.
"Death is only a destination, a turning point, but not the ultimate end, nor is it singular."
"In the presence of the supreme, there is no boundary between life and death. They are just concepts denoting different stages of life. We praise the supreme, we follow Her, we serve Her... and in the end, we shall receive Her gifts and blessings."
Lucien glanced at the goblin priest, whose eyes were now incredibly clear. Had he not previously learned what the Mother of Chaos truly was, he might have been misled by this creature’s current devout facade into believing the Mother of Chaos was some supremely benevolent entity.
"Hehehe..." Lucien chuckled dryly, feeling that the relationship between himself and the goblin priest at this moment was rather bizarre.
After all, his paper-man judge was fighting to the death against the forces controlled by the goblin priest, while he himself was leisurely having a conversation with the priest’s consciousness...
"Let’s drop this subject, otherwise, I think we will not agree on the matter of the Mother," the goblin priest said to Lucien, his tone remarkably relaxed and confident.
He spread his hands lightly, "We can agree to disagree, after all, I do know what that Arcane Mage desires."
"Since we have nothing else to do right now, I can tell you for free if you’re interested. Mmm... There are also some other matters. While I’m in a good mood, you can ask me. Hehe, having a god willing to answer your questions is not something you come across often."
The goblin priest revealed a kind smile that, combined with the warmth of his expression, made him seem gentler and lacking the ferocious and fierce appearance common to chaotic creatures.
"I, Abudurexiti de Blackbun, swear by the Mother of Chaos that everything I am about to relate to this wizard is true. Should I break this oath, may I suffer the ’Seven Sins Punishment’ from the Mother," the goblin priest chuckled lightly, but it was indeed the most solemn vow for a being of chaos.
Only then did he casually look at Lucien, his moss-green eyes seemingly filled with encouragement and tolerance. "Young wizard, what would you like to ask? Hehe, I forgot to introduce myself. You can call me ’Mr. Abu.’ If we were to use the power level division of your Wizard World, my strength would be... at the peak of a level five wizard, infinitely close to the level of a level six wizard."
"I believe, even for an outstanding young wizard from the Wizard World like yourself, it must be somewhat difficult to meet a level five wizard, wouldn’t it?" The goblin priest Abu crossed his legs, looking more like he had come to chat and make friends rather than to fight to the death.
"Mr. Abu... You seem to know quite a bit about our Wizard World?"
"Yes, I met a level five wizard once in the World Corridor," Abu smiled, "Back then, I wasn’t as strong as I am now, but that level five wizard left a deep impression on me. I obtained a lot of information about the Wizard World from him."
"Were you friends with him?" Lucien asked, somewhat surprised.
"No." Abu smiled slyly, extending his long, sharp tongue to lick his lips as if in recollection—or more like savoring a memory. "He tasted quite good."
