Chapter 263 - 239 Manipulation

Chapter 263: Chapter 239 Manipulation

"Ugh..." Baby Helman’s originally wrinkly face turned an unnatural shade of red, and he began to burp, even exhaling a faint gray mist from his mouth.

The Maid who had just been trembling was no longer shaking but naturally began to tidy up the dirty clothes in the crib. Her eyes, now a grayish-white, cleared as the grayish-white stream of air dissipated, and her pupils reappeared, looking no different from before.

However, a closer examination would reveal a slight change in her pupils. In her black and gray eyes, something seemed to be slowly wriggling.

"Go on with your duties."

"Yes, Young Mistress." The maid bowed respectfully, and as she took her first step, she felt a bit bewildered, tilting her head as if she had forgotten something. But soon, she recalled familiar memories, blinking lightly and coming to think of many things.

"She is a maid of the Mondok family, now heading to the laundry room..." With that thought, the maid quickly picked up the clothes and headed outside.

She did not realize that, while passing through the corridor, she chose a path slightly further from the laundry room.

"Ouch..." As she reached a room’s doorway, the maid, preoccupied with the thoughts of her recent distraction, missed her step and nearly stumbled.

Fortunately, she maintained her balance quite well—her body swayed, but she was very lucky not to fall.

"Thank the Mother Goddess, if Lady Camille had seen me, I would have surely been punished, right?" the maid muttered to herself in relief. She quickened her pace, feeling somewhat guilty, but did not notice that her movement had caused a baby toy to fall.

The fabric-made baby toy lay quietly in the corner of the room, its button eyes staring intently to one side.

...

"It’s too strange... Inside the Mondok family, it’s just too normal." Lucien continued to observe while dealing with the children around him.

He had even confirmed through further "Mind Reading" that there were three players among these children, but these players were guests visiting, not from within the Mondok family.

"Lurah, you’ll play the role of the Countess next!" Daya handed a cloth doll to Lucien, her dark eyes then looking at him, "You seem a bit unhappy today?"

"No, not at all..." Lucien didn’t know why, but when Daya’s eyes focused on him, he suddenly felt a tingling sensation.

His head instinctively leaned backward, yet he found nothing, that tingling feeling seeming to be just a misjudgment.

"What’s wrong?"

"Nothing... It’s nothing." Lucien felt somewhat guilty, he glanced around, but did not know what to say, and he was even unclear about his next steps to break the situation.

While distractedly managing the children, he rapidly recalled information about Chaos Goblins and goblin priests in his mind.

He was quite clear about the information on Chaos Goblins, but the details on goblin priests, even in the records of Hercules, were rather vague.

After all, this was a kind of creature comparable to gods, and even the simplest information was not easily obtained.

In the information Hercules provided to Lucien, there was only one sentence about the abilities of the goblin priest, which was that he possessed the special abilities of "distortion" and "control."

"Distortion and control... Such a general statement doesn’t sound like abilities but more like a concept..."

Lucien had limited understanding of divine-level powers, making it difficult for him to clearly categorize such powerhouses; therefore, his understanding of the goblin priest could only be pondered through those few words.

In Lucien’s understanding, control was easier to comprehend, as there were some related schools in the Wizard World. For example, the Undead Wizard could control some undead creatures in combat, and the "Manipulator" faction among the Mechanical Wizards also had the ability to control various mechanical creations in battle.

However, the characteristic of distortion made Lucien feel somewhat perplexed. The last time he heard such a term was in relation to the Hell Blood Serpent and the Crimson Pages.

The abilities of the Crimson Pages tended more towards "contamination" and "assimilation," able to assimilate some flesh and blood creatures into some kind of hellish entities, with distortion being a byproduct of the contamination and assimilation process.

But according to this logic, could the ability of "distortion" refer to some abnormal modification of items or creatures?

Lucien felt uneasy, always feeling that the inexplicable abnormality inside the Mondok family mansion definitely had an unspeakable connection with the goblin priest.

But perhaps it was the vast chasm between their levels that allowed him to sense many abnormalities, yet he could never pinpoint the specific issues.

This feeling made him exceptionally irritable, as if he was in the dark, able to hear the buzzing sound of a mosquito flapping its wings, even sensing the mosquito folding its wings and landing on his skin. But the moment he raised his hand ready to strike, the mosquito would take flight, vanishing without leaving any trace.

"You guys continue playing, I... I need to go to the restroom," Lucien clasped his stomach, feigning a look of urgency.

Without waiting for Daya to say anything, Lucien hurried out.

"Sir!" Two maids responsible for looking after them called out quietly behind him.

Yet Lucien, pretending not to have heard, dashed forward. Although this action might seem impolite, it was an attempt to escape the "invisible arrangements."

After all, using the "urgent need to pee" excuse combined with the identity of a child, he now had an excuse to rush into any room.

But the next moment, Lucien’s expression dimmed slightly because just as he rushed out the door, he happened to encounter a maid carrying fruits.

"Miss, please slow down." The maid looked at Lucien; without waiting for Lucien to react, she smiled gently, speaking in a polite and gentle voice, "The restroom is behind, just go straight. Or... should I take you there?"

Saying so, she set the fruit tray aside, slightly bent over, and extended a hand towards Lucien.

"Thank... Thank you," Lucien sighed inwardly with resignation, but he could only honestly stop.

He lifted his head and employed his "Mind Reading" talent to observe the maid.

"It’s quite normal." Lucien’s heart turned cold; at that moment, he felt like a puppet being manipulated by someone.
