Chapter 188: Chapter 167 Breaking the Golden Body
As the first new blood who dared to draw his sword on a Formal Wizard, Lucien couldn’t help but take an extra glance at this new blood, then gave him a friendly smile, "Very good."
Perhaps emboldened by the presence of a leader, the other new bloods also ignited the bravery and fierceness within their hearts.
"Judgment!"
"Judgment!"
"Mercy..."
One Wizard Apprentice after another stepped onto the judgment platform, casting their vote and invisibly deciding the fate of a Formal Wizard. And Lucien, throughout it all, never said anything, nor did he interfere with this sacred process of execution.
During this time, Wizard Morgan briefly lifted his head and opened his eyes, but eventually, he let his head fall weakly and closed his eyes in despair.
"Gods cannot bleed," Lucien watched the Wizard Apprentices casting their votes and silently said to himself.
At this moment, he was not too concerned about whether Morgan lived or died; after all, the process of the trial was more important to him than the life of Wizard Morgan!
Whether or not he survives the trial, it wouldn’t affect Lucien’s plans. After all, if he lived, he would exist as the "Formal Wizard forgiven by the new bloods," and if he died, he would die as the "Formal Wizard judged by the new bloods."
What Lucien intended to do was to shatter the invisible shackles that bound the multitude of Wizard Apprentices through the matter of Wizard Morgan!
Formal Wizards should never naturally stand aloof and above!
They too can be judged by the apprentices; they come from the apprentices; they are not inherently superior to the apprentices!
"Judgment!" When the last new blood uttered their sentence, Lucien looked at the number of votes cast and amidst a chorus of astonished cries and under the watchful eyes of both the new bloods and the veteran Wizard Apprentices, he unhesitatingly summoned a Moonblade and cleanly severed Wizard Morgan’s head!
Gululu...
Wizard Morgan’s head flew through the air, landing heavily back on the ground under the gaze of the Wizard Apprentices, where it rolled several times, even staining his face with a considerable amount of dust.
Wizard Morgan, had fallen!
He did not die in the struggle between Formal Wizards, but rather, in a democratic-like judgment decided by the multitude of Wizard Apprentices.
"Crazy... too crazy!" Not far away, a Third-level Wizard Apprentice who had watched the whole scene unfold couldn’t take his eyes off of Morgan’s head. His mouth hung slightly open, and his eyes seemed to have lost focus.
As an old Third-level Wizard Apprentice who had fought and struggled through half a life at Greybone Academy, he seemed to have grown accustomed to living a life of selfless service to the Formal Wizards. But now, having witnessed the entire proceeding of Morgan being judged, it felt as if his world had collapsed.
Certain obsessions, certain convictions seemed insignificant in this moment.
He seemed to have come to terms with it suddenly, and his entire being felt uncaged and unburdened as if a shackle had been removed.
"Perhaps... I should return to South Karas County, back to my family’s castle..." the old apprentice muttered softly. His body seemed slightly stooped, but his steps grew brisker.
...
"Morgan is dead..." Some of the Wizard Apprentices who had been under Morgan’s tutelage stared at this scene. Many couldn’t contain the complex emotions in their hearts, casting detection-type witchcraft on Morgan’s head, as if worried for his safety or to make sure he was truly dead.
And after confirming the actual death of Wizard Morgan, many of his former students had a flash of relief and euphoria in their eyes, though these emotions were subtle. Perhaps the most outward display of emotion was their hands clenching and unclenching in their pockets, under their Wizard Robes.
At this moment, these students felt as if a mountain had suddenly been lifted, making their breathing so free and exhilarating!
...
"Instructor Lucien..." Carly looked around at the Wizard Apprentices, their expressions ranging from stunned shock to bewildered daze, and she couldn’t help but puff out her small chest a bit.
"Stop puffing it out. Zero times any number is still zero, pointy ears." Count Sanaxis, not knowing when he had emerged from the Wizard’s Notes and gotten out of Carly’s storage ring, sat on her shoulder. He noticed Carly’s action and shook his head, speaking his evaluation calmly and fairly.
Carly’s body shuddered, but she quickly thought of something and hastily grabbed Count Sanaxis, then hurried off to her laboratory.
After all, the laboratory was equipped with a variety of small tools...
...
However, at this moment, the ones who were most profoundly stirred were the 217 new bloods of Wizards. They silently watched as Wizard Morgan, now decapitated, lay before them. This scene might remain etched deeply in their memories long after their departure from Greybone Academy, because on their very first day of stepping into the Wizard World, they had collectively judged a Formal Wizard!
This scene, regardless of whether for those new bloods who knew some of the Wizard World’s rules or for those who were still somewhat confused about the Wizard World, was tremendously shocking.
"Is this the... distinguished Formal Wizard of Greybone Academy my grandfather spoke of?" Sally looked towards Lucien’s slender and upright figure within the crowd, admiration shining in her eyes.
At the same time, she also made up her mind that, should Lord Lucien be willing to take on apprentices, she would be willing to use all the Magic Stones her grandfather had given her!
Presiding over the trial of a Formal Wizard... Just as Sally was reflecting on some of the details in her mind, from elsewhere, a new blood excitedly squeezed through the crowd, "Lord Lucien, I am Laming from the Prada Family, with a Talent of 4.7, willing to pay a thousand Magic Stones as tuition, please accept me as your student!"
Boom—
This sudden request to become an apprentice exploded the atmosphere at the scene.
Some apprentices, including Sally, felt regret, as if the action they wanted to take had been preempted by others.
However, they soon came to their senses.
"The Prada Family? Isn’t that the royal family of the Lurah Kingdom?" Many new bloods from the Lurah Kingdom or with hometowns near the Lurah Kingdom couldn’t help but stand on tiptoes, eagerly watching the royal new blood’s apprentice ceremony.
"Better focus on your studies first," Lucien looked at the new blood who was now respectfully prostrating before him, and a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes. However, he ultimately took a slight step back and did not accept this near-5th Talent genius as his apprentice.
Then he simply took a step and blended into a Shadow, making use of the witchcraft "Shadow Stealth" to quickly leave the overly excited group of new bloods.
"Lord Lucien... didn’t accept me?" Laming Prada slowly lifted his head, a touch of astonishment flitted across his eyes. At the same time, he couldn’t help but recall the secret conversation his family had before he set out.
As the royal family of the Lurah Kingdom, the Prada Family had produced Formal Wizards in its history, otherwise, they couldn’t possibly be the nominal rulers of the Lurah Kingdom. Although there were no Formal Wizards currently residing in the family, and their influence within Greybone Academy had weakened, through special channels and methods, the Prada Family could still grasp some hidden powers.
In their view, Lucien was a powerful Wizard with great secrets. If their progeny could follow Lucien and gain his favor, they might share in that secret and achieve great things, perhaps even becoming a Formal Wizard and leading the family towards a resurgence.
That’s why Laming was so readily willing to pay a large price to become an apprentice. What he hadn’t expected was that Lucien, this mysterious and powerful Wizard, had so straightforwardly rejected him.
He was an individual with 4.7 Talent! Even in some tests that weren’t very accurate, his Talent was the highest of the 5th level. He had a good chance of advancing to become a Formal Wizard...
What’s more, he was even willing to pay a thousand Magic Stones...
Laming lay prostrate on the ground, his mind a blank for a moment.
But he soon thought of the words that the elders of his family had told him, and Laming quickly came to terms with it in his heart. "Indeed, Lord Lucien is a powerful Wizard who can hold an equal conversation with the Dean. Perhaps even apprentices of 5th Talent are just average for him... But I will not give up."
With that thought, Laming clenched his fists involuntarily.
...
"According to Lord Lucien’s new teaching regulations, you are now freshmen at Greybone Academy. If you study for two years or advance to a Second-level Wizard Apprentice, you will be promoted to the second year..."
"Furthermore, as freshmen, you are not obligated to perform any missions in the first three months, and each month you may apply for ten Magic Stones from the Year Department to purchase experimental tools, materials, or to cover the costs needed for training."
"However, according to the principle of equivalent exchange among Wizards, this sum of Magic Stones will gradually be deducted from the rewards of tasks you take on later on, about 10% per time, until these thirty Magic Stones are fully repaid. Of course, you are also welcome to repay it ahead of time. Additionally, the Academy has also introduced a low-interest loan program with certain conditions. If you are willing to pay a certain price, you may also apply to the Academy for a... ’study loan.’"
"Ah... right, afterward you might want to check the bulletin board, as it has been said the Academy will also tentatively launch a ’work-study system’..."
A Second-level Wizard Apprentice was currently leading a dozen or so new bloods, familiarizing them with the campus environment and also elaborating on Greybone Academy’s new teaching regulations.
At the same time, he couldn’t help but envy the treatment this batch of new bloods was receiving.
Whether it was the interest-free thirty Magic Stone scholarship, the easy conditions of the study loan, or the still-planned ’work-study’ program, were all meant to protect young Wizard Apprentices, something he hadn’t had the privilege of enjoying when he first enrolled.
