Chapter 145: Chapter 125: Nothingness
Lucien’s fingers landed back on the canvas, and the gentle pressure made the Count Sanaxis wail in pain.
"Ahhh... do you know what you’re doing? This act is the greatest insult to the great Count Sanaxis!"
"Remove your filthy hands, and you’d better think of a good explanation, or be ready to face the wrath of Count Sanaxis!"
"Despicable Two-legged Long-haired Monster..."
Lucien’s fingers slightly increased the pressure, making Count Sanaxis’s cursing louder.
However, the curses didn’t last long before his tone took a complete 180-degree turn.
"Daddy, move your hand! At least lighten your grip..."
Lucien couldn’t help but twitch the corners of his mouth.
He had now witnessed the resilience of this Nightmare creature.
But sensing that the struggle from Count Sanaxis was getting weaker, although it seemed most likely feigned, Lucien still slightly loosened his grip, and then he heard a deep gasp for air.
After a brief silence, it seemed that Count Sanaxis’s backbone had returned.
"Two-legged Long-haired Monster, I..."
Lucien’s fingers slowly increased the pressure.
"I am your most, most obedient big boy! You call me Count Sanaxis... no, just call me Little San."
Outside the frame, in a small binding Proto-Witchcraft Array, Lucien lay outside the wizard formation, observing Count Sanaxis who was sitting on a grape and nibbling it haphazardly.
After Lucien had caught this special Nightmare intelligent creature from inside the scroll to the peripheral space, it seemed even smaller, not even the size of a rice grain; thus, watching Count Sanaxis consume the grape, Lucien was somewhat worried that a slight roll of the grape would cause this peculiar Nightmare creature to die instantly.
"Burp~" Soon, Count Sanaxis appeared to be full and let out a loud burp.
Lucien looked at the still plump grape, feeling that the grape was at most slightly harmed.
It really is a strange being.
Lucien watched Count Sanaxis with curiosity in his eyes.
From what Count Sanaxis had shown in terms of strength, he seemed even weaker than the most common Dream Worm. According to the general logic amongst Nightmare creatures, usually, only those who evolve to a higher level could possess some intelligence.
For instance, Adeline, who also had some intelligence, but its level of intelligence was relatively shallow, appearing obsessive and even insane to normal people.
Yet, Count Sanaxis gave Lucien a completely different impression; although he usually spoke arrogantly, at critical moments, he exhibited traits not typical of Nightmare creatures, seeming more "soulful."
Normally, I would think such wise and strong character in a Nightmare creature would equate to great strength, but seeing Count Sanaxis unable to even finish a grape, Lucien couldn’t help but become more curious about him.
"Hey hey hey! I’m already not fussing about you capturing me, shouldn’t you make some gesture, lift this seal here, and let me return to the Nightmare World?"
Now fully fed and hydrated, Count Sanaxis’s voice became louder.
Lucien, however, ignored Count Sanaxis’s shouts and employed his spiritual power, trying to observe more minutely, hoping to find some natural magic patterns or peculiar body structures on Count Sanaxis, to enhance his understanding and knowledge of Nightmare creatures.
However, when Lucien used his spiritual power to examine Count Sanaxis’s body, something unexpected occurred.
"Eh?" Lucien frowned slightly.
Under his spiritual power probe, the area where Count Sanaxis was located appeared devoid of anything.
Empty...
At that moment, Lucien felt his hairs stand on end. He opened his eyes, somewhat in disbelief, at Count Sanaxis who was now leaning against the grape digesting, feeling his whole thought process in disarray.
Commonly, the perception of spiritual power is supposed to be more acute and richer than that of the naked eye.
There are items that can be observed through spiritual power that might not be visible to the naked eye, but usually, anything visible to the naked eye is inescapably clear under the probe of spiritual power.
But now, this understanding was completely overturned in the case of Count Sanaxis.
Not only him but even the grape he was depending on had disappeared from Lucien’s spiritual detection, and it appeared utterly natural.
It was as if they were never meant to exist.
But this guy, he had clearly just put it in there himself, and the grape was also bought by him, and he had even eaten other grapes from the same bunch...
Did he deceive my perception, or...
Lucien felt his mind was somewhat muddled, but his eyes inadvertently revealed a hint of excitement at this moment.
The Count Sanaxis, trapped within the wizard formation, suddenly realized with some horror that Lucien’s right hand had at some point produced a scalpel, flickering with a cold light.
"Stop... stop it, hey! Two-legged Long-haired Monster, I, the noble Count Sanaxis, command you to stop!"
"Hey, you’re not serious, are you? I’m telling you, you’ll regret this. If you go to the Nightmare World again, I will use the most creatively torturous methods I’ve collected to entertain you..."
Count Sanaxis began to bounce around inside the wizard formation, but his struggles seemed somewhat pale and futile under the slowly advancing scalpel.
The scalpel fell swiftly, in the midst of Count Sanaxis’s terrified eyes, trembling body, and vehement curses, cutting the grape into two perfect halves.
Grape juice flowed out, even some droplets splashing on Count Sanaxis.
"The properties of the grape have not changed..." Lucien scanned with his spiritual power once more. This time he noticed the cut half reentering his perception range, even the juice flowing on the grape’s surface and the slight tears at the cut were clearly visible.
However, the half of the grape closer to Count Sanaxis remained in a state of non-existence, utterly undetectable by sense.
"What the hell is this freaky thing?" Lucien looked at Count Sanaxis, who was still trembling ceaselessly, his look one of perplexity. He felt that this random "catch" of his seemed to have triggered some sort of protective mechanism similar to a beginner’s luck in fishing.
This special kind of Nightmare creature was truly extraordinary.
"I’m telling you, we’re not done, you..." Count Sanaxis’s wail was even more pitiful now; however, he seemed to realize something soon after, glancing at the grape beside him and using some of the tendrils on his body to check himself.
It seemed he was ensuring none of his body parts were missing.
Afterwards, he sighed deeply, even using one of his tendrils to wipe off some of the grape juice on his body, and then stuffed it into his mouth.
"You scared me to death!"
Looking at Count Sanaxis seemingly completely collapsed inside the wizard formation, Lucien tapped him lightly with the handle of the scalpel, "Hey, you should know, I am a wizard."
"It would be best if you tell me your value now; otherwise, I wouldn’t mind adding a specimen to my collection... um, or I might consider selling your kind of special Nightmare creature to other interested wizards... By the way, around here we have one particularly fond of turning humans or Nightmare creatures into dolls, a real freak..."
Lucien said with a warm smile, but in Count Sanaxis’s eyes, Lucien’s smile seemed somewhat sinister.
"Who are you kidding..." Count Sanaxis mumbled to himself, though his mouth was notably stubborn.
Lucien did not say much more and directly took out a severed limb from the Space Ring.
"Disgusting, get it away from me!" Count Sanaxis saw the limb, and his body turned from semi-transparent to green, apparently disgusted by the half arm in Lucien’s hands, his voice growing somewhat shrill.
"You already bother showing me a severed hand, but why is it hosting something so disgusting? Yuck yuck yuck..."
"Disgusting thing? What is it?" Lucien was not annoyed but asked with interest, simultaneously teasing out more words from Count Sanaxis.
"Why should I tell you, you disgusting Two-legged Long-haired Monster!" Count Sanaxis muttered, but this time he seemed to catch on, looking at Lucien with a particularly rebellious gaze.
Lucien silently took out the scalpel.
"It’s a Nightmare Worm, and moreover, it’s one of the most disgusting ones, the Mosaru Worm!"
Lucien then brought the severed limb closer to Count Sanaxis, while also observing the limb’s changes through his spiritual power.
However, unlike before, Count Sanaxis showed real aversion to this section of the limb.
"Get away, you can’t humiliate me like this, it’s unethical..."
Count Sanaxis’s voice grew increasingly bitter as he looked at Lucien, his eyes filled with a trace of anger.
"I now need to deal with the owner behind this limb, and if you don’t want me to use you for some experiments, you’d better tell me what you know." Lucien withdrew the limb, then looked toward Count Sanaxis, who was now curling up in the corner of the wizard formation.
"Pfft... despicable human..." Count Sanaxis muttered quietly, but still slowly moved his body towards the grape, and began to explain some origins of the Nightmare Worm and his disdain for them to Lucien.
