Chapter 891: Chapter 432: Melee in the Gobi

On the desolate Gobi Plateau, the howling wind swept up sand pebbles that ceaselessly battered the cliffs, their noise mingling with the resonant beats of drums.

Under a massive cliff on the plateau, tens of thousands of soldiers from the Ezomal Empire had gathered, engaged in a bloody struggle.

The ’enemy’ they surrounded was a gargantuan beast in front of the cliff.

This was a creature with the body of a lion and a human face, towering dozens of meters tall, its mane like serpents, skin like iron scales, a pair of bat wings sprouting from its back, and a scorpion hook poison sting extending from the tip of its tail gleaming with cold light.

The Scorplion, a mythical beast of legend said to dwell in the depths of the desert, was now actually before the army of the Ezomal Empire.

The battlefield was filled with the thunderous clamor of men and the roars of the magical beast, echoing through the sky like thunder. As a mythical creature, the Scorplion faced the hundred-thousand-strong army alone, not falling short in either presence or combat power. The only reason it was still surrounded was because it had a territory to defend—the cliffs at its back!

In the middle part of the cliff behind the Scorplion, there was an enormous circular cave opening several dozen meters in diameter.

That was the lair of the Scorplion. However, the entrance to the lair was now covered with a barrier directly linked to the Scorplion’s life. As long as the Scorplion’s HP didn’t drop below 50%, that barrier would remain invincible.

It was for this reason that Evans led the hundred-thousand-strong army to confront the Scorplion directly.

"Right flank!"

"Archers ready... Release!"

"Mage team, Marsh Array!"

...

In the very center of the troops, an assistant officer from Ezomal, holding a military flag, issued orders in an orderly fashion.

Under his systematic command, this well-trained army unleashed its fullest combat power, still managing a tit-for-tat battle with the mythical creature, the Scorplion.

Of course, sheer numbers were far from enough. Without the restraints of an expert, a single ultimate move from the Scorplion could easily annihilate them.

And now, before the Scorplion, the one tasked with the restraint was the strongest man in the entire empire, Commander Evans.

As one of the rare level 30 top-tier experts in the entire Star Spirit World, Evans, with only his sword, fearlessly engaged in close combat with the Scorplion.

In the sky, sword Qi whirled about, crescent-shaped waves of sword Qi continuously flew from Evans’s broad sword, exploding on the Scorplion’s body and blasting puffs of blood.

The relentless assault was such that even the thick-skinned Scorplion couldn’t ignore his presence. It roared up to the sky, and in the air above, dozens of enormous stone cones rapidly took shape. Under the Scorplion’s control, they shot towards the Evans below at speeds too fast for the naked eye to follow.

Boom boom...

Every stone cone created a blast upon impact, making the soldiers nearby sweat on behalf of Evans.

Evans, on the other hand, demonstrated his exceptional combat intuition, rolling and weaving through the blasts, dodging one falling stone after another as they missed him by a hair’s breadth.

After a series of fluid evasions, none of the stone cones hit their mark, and in a flip of his hand, Evans unleashed continuous sword Qi that once again exploded on the Scorplion’s body.

The scene erupted in cheers. Commander Evans’s strength inflamed the passion of all the soldiers, boosting their morale tremendously!

The Scorplion, on the other hand, was the opposite, feeling increasingly irritable as it was given the run-around by a seemingly insignificant ant. The cheering around it felt like a great mockery.

The Scorplion bellowed angrily, its lion’s body rising high before crashing down rapidly, its fists smashing heavily into the earth.

"Boom!"

Following the Scorplion’s movement, the sandy ground suddenly conjured more than a dozen whirlwinds, spinning up clouds of dust and sweeping toward the densely packed soldiers around it.

"The storm’s here, quick, get into Lightning Formation!"

The commander in the ranks urgently waved his flag and shouted.

And the tens of thousands of soldiers on the ground adhered to the command, instantly changing formations.

The entire army, like a branching tree diagram, split into numerous gaps that wound their way outward. From above, the troops looked as though they had been struck by lightning, with spacious paths appearing amidst the dense formation.

Even more miraculously, those whirlwinds, as if deliberately cooperating with them, all passed through the cleared paths without affecting the soldiers on either side.

Tens of seconds later, all the whirlwinds disappeared, and the scattered troops converged once more—Evans’s army had perfectly dodged the Scorplion’s ultimate move!

Nobody seemed surprised, for they had been intermittently battling with the Scorplion for three days, during which they had come to understand all of the Scorplion’s abilities and containment methods, allowing them to confidently face off against the beast.

Again, a boss whose details have been exposed poses no threat. This was true not just for players but applied equally to these indigenous troops.

"Hold steady, here we go again! Archers ready..."

As the commander’s shout rang out, all soldiers returned to their positions, commencing a new round of attacks...

In the thick of the battle, Evans nimbly dodged another claw swipe from the Scorplion and, amidst the beast’s futile rage, temporarily retreated while casting a probing spell on the Scorplion.

Scorplion, level 31, current HP: 17095415/34200000.

Evans breathed a sigh of relief; after three continuous days of relentless fighting, they finally brought the Scorplion’s HP down below 50%!
