Chapter 809: Chapter 404: Pen of Order
"The Minor Cataclysm, so that’s what it meant..."
Mu You frowned as he looked at the illusory book before him.
The description within these sporadic notes did not actually align with the history of the Fool that he had come to understand from the game.
In the opening backstory of the "Fool" game, the Fool was described as a group of people ’incapable of casting magic,’ and thus they were mockingly called Fools by the wizards. The Wizard Association, refusing to share the lands with the Fool, waged war, erected ’high walls’, and sealed the Fools in the Forgotten Land. At the same time,
However, according to this note, the Fools were not innately incapable of casting magic. It was only after returning from Sky High that they lost the ability to cast magic for some reason.
And the name ’Fool’ was not a derogatory term given by the wizards, but a self-proclaimed title they had always used. In fact, the true meaning of ’Fool,’ as can be deduced from the interpretation of the Fool’s Card, refers to a person with ’adventurous spirit,’ not one who cannot use magic.
Moreover, the Wizard Association did not wage war because they looked down on the Fools, thinking them ignorant, but rather because they were afraid of them, afraid the Fools would regain their vitality, causing the Sky City to take to the skies once more and bring disaster upon the continent; and thus they sought to completely exterminate the Fools.
In short, the narrative of this note greatly diverges from the background described in the game.
When compared, Mu You naturally believed this note’s account more.
The most obvious point: in the game, it was said that the Fool’s ancestors had no ability to cast magic, yet in reality, all players who entered the game could learn and cast magic normally. Furthermore, the native residents of the Star Spirit World never expressed any doubt about the Fool’s ability to perform magic, indicating that, subconsciously, they all acknowledged that the Fool had the potential for magic.
This suggests that the background introduction of the "Fool" game was fabricated by the game designers, deliberately misleading the players, possibly with the intent of vilifying the image of the Wizard Association and instilling profound hatred for it in the players’ hearts.
Mu You took a deep breath and used his Magic Wand to close the floating ethereal book.
From the content of this book, as well as what he had just learned, Mu You had begun to outline a rough cause and effect in his mind:
The ancestors of the Fool were the civilization of a previous Star Spirit era, who for some reason discovered the pattern of the Great Cataclysm and also found a way to survive it—by hiding in the Forgotten Land!
At that time, there probably hadn’t been any damage to the ’wall’ between the Forgotten Land and the Star Spirit World; the Great Cataclysm would destroy the Star Spirit World but wouldn’t affect the world behind the wall.
Therefore, the Fools, bringing with them the God’s Corpse, migrated into the Forgotten Land four or five thousand years ago, and with the protection of the wall, survived the Great Cataclysm.
After the Great Cataclysm, a new era dawned on the Star Spirit World, and at this time, the Fools in the Forgotten Land were divided into two factions, the Farming Faction and the Adventurous Faction; among them, the ’Farming Faction’ weary of the conflicts and adventures of the Star Spirit World decided to stay and live well in the Forgotten Land, a place devoid of magic power, likely the ancestors of modern-day humanity.
The other faction, the ’Adventurous Faction’ of the Fools, could not suppress the yearning for exploration and knowledge inherent in their bones and thus took the God’s Corpse back to the Star Spirit World, easily taking control over the hundreds of races and subsequently nurturing the Human Race, using human labor to create the Twelve Sky Cities.
What happened afterward was clear, in the year 2405 of the Star Spirit chronology, which is more than 1400 years ago, the Fools riding in the Sky City went up to Sky High and there encountered some kind of calamity, forcing them to escape back to the Star Spirit World in a sorry state and also triggering the Minor Cataclysm there.
After the Minor Cataclysm, the Adventurous Faction Fools, with their powers sealed, were naturally no match for the Wizard Association and were thoroughly exterminated by them, with only a very few escaping back to the Forgotten Land.
For over a thousand years after that, the Star Spirit World and the Forgotten Land each lived in peace, with no interaction between them.
Until now, a thousand years later, a text-based game emerged in the Forgotten Land, informing countless players of the existence of the Star Spirit World and allowing them to once again set foot on this land through soul projection...
Mu You let out a long sigh.
All one could say was, the Black Clothed One’s premonition was correct; the Fools had made a resurgence!
And they came more fiercely and radically than the original Fools, with hundreds of millions of players swarming in like locusts, driven by a vengeful mindset into the Star Spirit World, catching the Wizard Association off guard and, within a mere two years, they rose again and recovered all the Sky Cities!
It could be said that the Wizard Association’s window to suppress the development of the Fools was now past, and with the current rate of development, it was just a matter of time before they once again dominated the Star Spirit World.
The current question was, who exactly created the "Fool" game?
Was it the Adventurous Faction that had fled back to Earth a thousand years ago?
If so, are they still alive now?
Unfortunately, this question was impossible to find an answer to in this library.
Mu You shook his head; time was precious, and he could only continue searching for information.
Apart from concepts of the Major and Minor Cataclysms, of course, what Mu You urgently needed now was information about the inheritance mission.
Mu You first searched for ’Balance of Order,’ result: none.
Then he searched for ’Book of Order,’ result: still none.
Not giving up, he then searched for ’Pen of Order.’
This time, there was a hit!
Golden runes chained together, leading all the way to a particular bookshelf to the front left.
