Chapter 502: Burning

Chapter 502: Chapter 502: Burning

"Don’t come in, I’ll go check," Chen Ke turned back and said to Lucina.

Lucina, of course, was unwilling. Despite Chen Ke’s efforts to stop her, she rushed into the flames.

Chen Ke had no choice but to follow Lucina into the fiery scene. An unbearable heat swept through, with thick smoke swirling above the ceiling. As he urged Lucina to be careful, he moved towards the nearest blue human silhouette.

"It’s... it’s Hall!" Chen Ke yelled.

Hall had been shot in the upper body, his face covered in blood, writhing on the ground, struggling to push off a large server that was pinning down his lower body. Seeing Chen Ke arrive, he managed a relieved smile.

"Damn it! Help me! Quick!" Hall shouted.

Chen Ke bent down, grasped the bottom of the server, and with effort shifted it slightly.

"Not enough! No... lift it some more!" Hall said in a deep voice, completely exhausted.

Hearing this, Lucina rushed over. Seeing Hall on the ground, she let out a cry of surprise and with one hand, she flipped the server off, pulling Hall out from underneath.

"Ow, ow, ow! My leg!" Hall shouted.

"Shut up, you idiot!" Lucina angrily cursed, pressing down on the still bleeding bullet hole on Hall’s left shoulder.

Chen Ke handed Hall over to Lucina and continued searching deeper into the safe room. There were two more figures in the back, in the room where the drilling machine was stored.

Chen Ke stepped over a turned-over table, which had bullet holes indicating it had been used as temporary cover. As he braved the intense heat and entered the room, he saw Pihom lying on the floor, riddled with bullet holes, still clutching a Python revolver in his right hand. Hainerd was sitting against the wall on the floor.

"Hainerd..." Chen Ke quickly ran over, squatting beside Hainerd. Hainerd was clutching a sawed-off shotgun in his left hand and pressing his right hand against his waist and abdomen, his face covered in blood.

Hearing Chen Ke’s voice, Hainerd struggled to lift his head.

"Who was it?" Chen Ke asked.

"The consortium... they took the green diamond..." Hainerd said weakly.

"Where did you put it?" Chen Ke asked.

"Locked in a small safe... they took the safe away..." Hainerd said.

"Can you still walk?" Chen Ke reached out to help Hainerd up.

But Hainerd pushed Chen Ke away, letting go of his hand covering his abdomen, and pulled out a small pendant from his chest and thrust it into Chen Ke’s hand. Chen Ke saw Hainerd’s injuries, his intestines having spilled out a lot, which had just been covered earlier.

"How long ago did they leave?" Chen Ke asked.

"Don’t seek revenge, they’ve already succeeded... they won’t come after you anymore, Chen Ke... take her and leave," Hainerd said, grabbing Chen Ke’s wrist.

"I..." Chen Ke, looking at the blood-stained pendant in his hand, saw it was a round copper locket that opened, containing a family portrait. The man and woman in the photo were very young, with a very small girl standing in the middle.

"Promise me..." Hainerd said with difficulty.

"Okay... I promise," Chen Ke nodded.

Hearing these words, Hainerd let out a long sigh, lowered his head, and then remained motionless.

"Chen Ke! Chen Ke! Where are you?" Lucina shouted from outside.

Chen Ke responded, got up, and walked towards the door. Lucina was hiding in the corner, carrying Hall. The fire was spreading rapidly around them, and the gun store outside must have already been reduced to ruins.

"Did you find my dad and Pihom?" seeing Chen Ke emerging from the inside, Lucina asked loudly.

"We need to leave this place and move toward the door," Chen Ke said calmly. As soon as they opened the door, they would be able to instantly teleport to the Illusion Dream Center and from there, move to Lucina’s home.

"Wait, where are Dad and Pihom?" Lucina asked.

"You play with time, time plays with you... Let’s leave this place first," Chen Ke said, pulling Lucina by the shoulders towards the door.

Chen Ke had traveled to April, avoiding the bombing of the fishery, but the consortium’s actions would not be canceled—they were bombing the gun store this time.

Lucina saw the serious expression on Chen Ke’s face and immediately understood. She handed Hall to Chen Ke and turned to run back.

In his urgency, Chen Ke could only grab Lucina’s arm and use time pause, freezing Lucina in that instant. She stood frozen like a human ice pop.

"What is this trick?" Hall was somewhat astonished by everything unfolding before him.

But Chen Ke didn’t feel like explaining. Holding Hall in his left hand and wrapping his right arm around Lucina’s waist, he strenuously advanced toward the door of the gun store. However, misfortune piled on when the red iron door clanged down, having been burned through.

"Damn it all!" Chen Ke cursed, still dragging the two upwards through the stairs.

Climbing the charred steps, the thick smoke in the stairwell was suffocating. Hall was nearly coughing his lungs out, but the time pause could only be applied to one person; he couldn’t protect both at the same time.

Chen Ke hurried his steps. If he could just get upstairs quicker and leave the gun store, Hall might still survive.

Dragging them up to the first floor of the gun store, most of the building was engulfed in flames, the fire reaching the sky tinting the moon red. He heard the sound of a helicopter hovering in the sky.

Through Spiritual Vision, there was a large group of human silhouettes outside—not looking like mere spectators.

Chen Ke carefully placed the two behind a blackened wall. Just after setting them down, the wall next to the store’s door collapsed. Outside, a dozen black cars were parked, and a group of gunmen with automatic rifles were stationed around.

They seemed determined to see the entire team of mail carriers wiped out before they would leave.

"There are some that slipped through," someone shouted.

Then, a dozen silencer-fitted automatic rifles fired at Chen Ke simultaneously. The crisp sounds of the rifles loading and discharging filled the air, and brass shell cases fell to the ground.

In the moment of their firing, seen through Spiritual Vision, the blue silhouettes all turned red, and a weak but overwhelming murderous aura surged towards Chen Ke like a tide. At the same time, the Mourning Song by An Helei covered Chen Ke.

"Bang, bang, bang..."

Bullets struck the armor, creating crisp sounds and sparks. Chen Ke tilted his head and threw a Spiritual Power Crystal Gun towards the densest crowd.

The blue beam pierced through four gunmen, exploding on the fifth, splitting his upper body into two halves.

"Spiritual Ability User! It’s a Spiritual Ability User! It must be him!" someone in the group of gunmen yelled.

But Chen Ke didn’t care about that. One shot after another from the Spiritual Power Crystal Gun, he was conducting a unilateral slaughter against the gunfire of over a dozen AR rifles. If they had taken the Holy Diamond, it should still be here.

A particularly powerful bullet brushed Chen Ke’s shoulder, making him stagger nearly falling to the ground. Looking up, he saw the helicopter above aiming at him.

Gathering Spiritual Energy in his right hand, Chen Ke targeted the helicopter and hurled the Spiritual Power Crystal Gun with a swish. The helicopter performed a maneuver to rise and evade but still got hit on the tail, spinning with flames trailing as it plummeted to the ground.

"No one’s getting away!" Chen Ke declared.

"Bang!" Chen Ke suddenly flew out, smashing into the flames of the gun store and rolling on the ground several times before stopping.

Kneeling on one knee, his right hand digging into the mud, he looked up to see a bald brute wielding dual hammers and a woman with a vine whip striding menacingly toward him.

Half of the gunmen were slaughtered, and they began to retreat. Now, it was time for the consortium’s Spiritual Ability Killers to perform.

"Lin Mo, you should have died a long time ago. Tonight we’ll help you complete the task you should have already finished," the woman coldly said.

"That’s perfect, I also have some questions for you," Chen Ke responded, using the Moonlight Great Sword to cleave a path through the fire.
