This Spiritual Energy is Lethal!
Chapter 475: The Mole

Chapter 475: Chapter 475: The Mole

The other two assassins, knocked back, picked themselves up off the ground, recognizing the shell-type defense shield Diana was wearing.

It was a secret skill known as "Beetle Defense," capable of effectively blocking non-spiritual power weapons, something only Spiritual Agents of the Administration Bureau would possess.

Secret skills, as a crucial force used in conjunction with spiritual energy, also circulated on the black market, but the vast majority were held by Administration Bureaus of various nations, under tighter control than the Holy Relics.

The secret skills available on the black market were extremely limited, and the prices were exorbitant. Abilities like the one Diana used could not be bought there.

The two assassins exchanged glances, then looked at Diana, who had turned to face them. The first thought that crossed their minds was to run away fast!

Failing an assassination merely meant not getting paid, but directly confronting a well-prepared Spiritual Agent brimming with spiritual energy meant a swift death. Even if a Spiritual Agent didn’t have many Holy Relics on hand, you’d never know what kind of skill they might deploy.

Seeing the two of them run without looking back, Diana sheathed her longsword, pulled out her Rhino revolver, and fired three shots—two hit the left assassin in the back, and one hit the right assassin in the leg.

"Ah!"

"Hmph..."

The two assassins fell to the ground at the sound. The one with the limp turned sideways and pulled out a pistol from his bosom.

Diana stepped forward, crushing the hand holding the gun under her foot and grabbed the collar of the hitman, yanking him to his feet.

"Where did you get your spiritual energy injections? Who dares to target a Spiritual Agent of the Administration Bureau?" Diana demanded.

"Do you think they’d let me live if I told you?" the assassin gritted out.

"Then think about what you’ll go through in an Administration Bureau prison. We have a Level 2 interrogation protocol, and we’ve got some sickos who specialize in dealing with asses. Think about it, big boy; what do you think they’ll do to you? They’ll hang you in the restroom all night long, playing with you, making every dump you take remind you of your time in the Administration Bureau’s toilet!" Diana retorted.

"Enough... enough... I only know she’s a woman, responsible for arranging our injection surgery, preparing weapons for us... She provided the list... we’ve never seen her..." the assassin said nervously.

"How many more assassins are in action? Tell me!" pressed Diana.

"I don’t know, I really don’t! Each person is only responsible for a part of the list; we weren’t supposed to deal with you... It’s just that they failed..." the assassin replied.

"When did this assassination mission start? How long have you been acting?" Diana continued.

"It just began... We don’t know how many people she’s hired for this... Honestly, even for professional assassins, this is a rare large-scale assassination operation. She’s generous, and the pay is excellent," the assassin explained.

"How much did she promise to pay you?" Diana was curious.

"One million per target," the assassin said.

"Once you finish all the targets, she’ll dispose of you too. Even I’m not an assassin, and I can see that," Diana stated.

In both novels and movies, those who hire murderers always silence them after everything is done.

"No one betrays an assassin, it’s common knowledge in the business," the assassin said.

"She dares to kill people from the Administration Bureau, let alone you dogs that get paid to do the dirty work," Diana said contemptuously.

The assassin had hardly told her anything, and whether Wang Ailin was dead or alive remained a mystery. She dropped the assassin, took the gun from him, dismantled the magazine, and ejected the bullet from the chamber before tossing it into a nearby trash can.

She slid her Rhino revolver into its holster, ready to leave.

"Wait... Are you just going to walk away like that? Shouldn’t you be arresting me?" The assassin was lying on the ground, blood still flowing from his leg.

"The County Police will take good care of you. For now, just have a nice sleep," Diana said.

She stepped on the assassin’s face, knocking him out, and walked out of the alley.

...

Opportunity City, Administration Bureau Intelligence Center.

Since Diana’s encounter with the assassination attempt last night, the entire Administration Bureau of Opportunity City had moved into a state of alert. Although an attack on the Spiritual Agents seemed ludicrous, the Administration Bureau still proceeded with a series of operations according to protocol.

At the same time, the Administration Bureau had excluded any connection of this assassination with Spiritual Monsters. It was a simple act of murder. By comparing the people Diana had been in contact with over the past three months and the cases she had experienced, the Administration Bureau tried to identify potential enemies and suspects.

This case wasn’t targeting the Administration Bureau’s agents because the identities of the forty-plus targets on the hit list had been verified. They came from various backgrounds, from business and political figures to research institute professors, including the Bureau’s agents, teachers, athletes, and more... There was no connection amongst them, making it inscrutable to understand what the person who released the assassination contract was trying to achieve.

It looked like an indiscriminate murder game.

However, the more it seemed that way, the more it indicated the mastermind behind it all was dangerous. CPA agents and CIA operatives collaborated across departments, and the breakthrough point came with the three assassins Diana had killed.

The identities of the bodies dragged back from Diana’s apartment had been identified. All three were members of a certain robbery organization and none of them were Spiritual Ability Users. But based on the Spiritual Ability Hand Grenades they had used, the Administration Bureau traced the source of purchase.

The Spirit Power Sealing Hand Grenades came in three types. The first type was a high-explosive spirit power sealing round, which, when thrown, would cause a large explosion sound and emit a vast cloud of sealing smog, hindering the liquid spiritual energy’s functioning within a Spiritual Ability User’s body. The range could reach up to 300 square meters and the longest duration was half an hour, the type used by P.W.A.T.

The second type was a smoke-type spiritual energy sealing round that released colored smoke when thrown, resembling a smoke grenade. Its function was to control the unknown area and inhibit the vision of all life within it, with a range of 100 square meters and a duration of 20 minutes. This was the artifact used by the Administration Bureau’s agents to suppress Spirit Explosion Areas.

The third type was what the three assassins had used, a covert spiritual energy sealing hand grenade. The duration and range were inferior to the other types, lasting only 5 minutes and covering a maximum of 50 square meters, but its advantage was that it made no sound at all, extremely quiet, something only issued to the R6 Spiritual Ability Special Forces.

Regardless of which type, all spiritual energy sealing grenades were prohibited items on the market and even on the black market, it was very difficult to come by a common Type-2 grenade, let alone the Special Forces’ exclusive Type-3.

"This grenade wasn’t registered with the Administration Bureau. Someone manually annulled its stock code, and there are no dispatch documents."

An agent was making a written report to Steve.

"What does this imply? Speak up," Steve said.

"It means there’s a mole in the Administration Bureau..." the agent whispered.

Spiritual power weapons were not circulated in the market. Every piece of equipment was filed in the Administration Bureau, and the stock codes and dispatch documents were things that would definitely be manually entered when these equipments were manufactured and issued.

"Are you telling me that an agent with high clearance altered these equipments’ information and then allowed them to circulate?" Steve asked.

The agent couldn’t confirm and hesitated for a moment before saying, "The black market has such technologies."

"None of it is good news... Either someone on the inside is letting the equipment out, or... someone inside is covering for the black market people," Steve said, his eyes sweeping over everyone in the room.
