Chapter 459 -459: Amateur Big Dart Player
A night had passed, and the sky was beginning to lighten when the children of Jacob became active on the rooftops of the city; they were the eyes of Jacob, and now, they were also the eyes of Chen Ke.
After an entire morning of waiting, at noon, a few children brought Chen Ke the information he had been anticipating for so long.
They discovered a train with twelve carriages speeding along the suburban circular tracks; the fifth carriage’s side door was open, and several men in black suits were inside.
“The train isn’t running very fast, and it’s still near East Langdon at the moment; I estimate you’ll be able to see it to the north in about an hour.”
“Thank you,” Chen Ke nodded, aware that the other party was waiting for him.
As he was preparing to leave, Jacob called out to him.
“Chen Ke, wait a moment,” said Jacob.
Chen Ke turned his head to look at Jacob, waiting for his question.
“Do you really come from… that year?” Jacob asked tentatively.
“What if I do?” Chen Ke countered.
“Then tell me, what is the future like?” Jacob demanded.
“It didn’t turn out to be what you expected,” Chen Ke replied.
Jacob nodded slightly and then fell silent. Chen Ke said farewell to him and the children before leaving Good Golden Cup Hospital and heading north toward the city’s train tracks.
In the carriage of a hired horse-drawn cab, which he paid for with his last copper coins, Chen Ke contemplated his next move, but after thinking it over, he realized his options were limited.
The train was the other party’s home ground and was bound to be packed with their goons; in the worst-case scenario, the strength of these goons would likely not be inferior to another Chen Ke himself.
On the other hand, his Holy Relics were incomplete; the Moonlight Greatsword was still in the hands of another Chen Ke, An Helei’s ashes weren’t able to cause too much damage to it, and the only thing that could hurt him was the Black Gun in his heart.
The Clan are dangerous entities that common people can’t handle; even the Foundation can only seal them by destroying their era, which was exactly why Xu Jing sought Chen Ke’s help.
Plodding along in the horse carriage, parallel to the train, Chen Ke considered a plan—to shoot the opponent from a long distance, killing them with a single shot. After all, even if Xu Jing was in their hands, killing her wasn’t an issue, as she would immediately return to her own timeline and quickly time-travel back to find him.
“Hmm, just like that, from a good distance, spot which carriage he is in and shoot straight to the soul,” Chen Ke nodded to himself, determined to succeed.
The carriage was about to leave the city area when Chen Ke knocked on the cab, signaling the driver to stop the vehicle. The honest driver halted the horse-drawn cab, opened the door for him, and asked with curiosity why they stopped.
With a fierce glare from Chen Ke, his murderous aura terrified the driver into unconsciousness, and then he caught the collapsing body of the driver, dragging it into the cab.
What Chen Ke was about to go through was not something this driver could withstand, nor did he need to chase the train in a horse-drawn carriage. It would be more convenient to make the journey alone on horseback.
But then he thought again—he can’t actually ride a horse! Moreover, the draught horse of the cab wasn’t equipped with riding gear and was not rideable.
So Chen Ke dragged the driver back out of the cab, dumped him into a pile of hay by the side, climbed into the driver’s seat, and continued on his way.
North of Langdon was an expanse known as the Hampstead Wilderness occupying 790 acres, with a lonely set of train tracks cutting across it, passing over a stretch of red sand dunes, and over a white stone bridge.
When Chen Ke’s horse-drawn carriage arrived there, steam and the sound of a steam train’s whistle emanated from the horizon to his right, and the “clatter clatter” of the train on the tracks grew increasingly closer.
“Giddy up! Giddy up!” Chen Ke picked up the reins and urged the two horses toward the direction of the train tracks, the carriage’s large wheels jolting over the sandy and stony ground, causing the carriage to shake violently, which worried Chen Ke.
The train thundered closer, moving much faster than the horse-drawn carriage. Chen Ke freed his right hand to grasp the Black Gun, carefully observing each carriage. Through his Spiritual Vision, he could see shadows of dozens of people inside the carriages.
Just as he was speeding along with the train, the sliding door of the third red carriage burst open, and six Gatling guns mounted inside began to rotate, with a suited man pressing the fire button behind them.
“Damn it!” Chen Ke exclaimed as bullets poured down like rain, instantly shredding the carriage into wooden splinters.
Chen Ke’s murderous intent instantly activated. He lunged at the man operating the Gatling gun, and in the process, he leapt off the horses’ backs. The terrified horses, startled by the gunfire, dragged the remnants of the carriage and scattered in all directions. Chen Ke barely managed to wrap his arms around a horse’s neck, nearly being thrown off.
His murderous aura was effective against the suited gunmen. The Gatlings roared for only two seconds before coming to a halt.
At that moment, the door of the fourth carriage slid open with a clang, and about a dozen suited gunmen holding automatic rifles aimed at Chen Ke’s horse.
“Steady! Ow… Damn!” Chen Ke finally steadied himself on the horse’s back, only to feel his horse’s rear get hit by gunfire. With a pained whinny, the horse slowed down.
Chen Ke jumped sideways onto the other horse, dragging his feet in the ground. With a cry of effort, he lifted his thigh sharply and clung sideways to the horse.
Several gunmen stuffed grenades into the launchers attached beneath their rifles, aiming at an empty spot in front of the horse and pulling the triggers.
“Slow down, slow down!” Chen Ke pulled on the horse’s reins, and at the same time, he burned off the cart’s protective gear.
Free from the encumbrance of the carriage remnants, the horse became more agile. He pulled on the reins, steering the horse closer to the train carriages.
“Bang!”
A grenade exploded seven or eight meters away from Chen Ke, who took cover on the left side of the horse. His right hand flashed with a blue light as he fired back with the Spiritual Power Crystal Gun.
Whoosh!
The Crystal Gun burrowed into the muddy ground, blowing up a spray of mud. Chen Ke couldn’t aim as accurately from horseback.
“Closer! Get closer!” Chen Ke yelled, yanking the horse’s reins, leaning towards the edge of the train. His murderous intent surged, and rows of gunmen fell to the ground. Some even toppled out of the carriage, rolling to their deaths on the tracks.
The horse galloped vigorously to the side of the red carriage, a jump away from boarding it. Just as Chen Ke was about to reenact a Hollywood-style train climbing action scene, a bald suited man suddenly appeared with a pump-action shotgun aimed at his head.
In an instant, Chen Ke was enveloped by An Helei’s Lament.
“Bang!”
Taking a shot to the head, Chen Ke lost his balance, clenching the reins tightly and pulling the horse down with him, both tumbling in the mud.
“Hahaha! Trash!” the bald man taunted.
A metallic hand grabbed the edge of the eighth carriage, and Chen Ke, mustering all his strength, pulled himself up to the connector between the carriages. His horses were dead, and he sought revenge for them.
Summoning the Ashes of An Helei, Chen Ke melted through the carriage door, and the gunmen inside turned their automatic rifles on him.
Gunshots rang out one after another, bullets pinging off his armor. Chen Ke resisted the impact of the bullets and let An Helei’s Magic Flames run wild in the carriage.
The suited men ignited spontaneously, screaming in agony as the bullets in their guns also backfired. Only then did Chen Ke see clearly—they were all Asian.
