Chapter 440: Chapter 440: Awakening

Chen Ke quickly stepped forward, coming to the door the woman had just left. He gently turned the doorknob, and it wasn’t locked.

His pupils emitted a blue glow as the range of his Spiritual Vision greatly shrank, only about 30 meters were visible, and he didn’t see any human-shaped silhouettes.

"Open the door! Open it quickly! Katherine! Open the door! I’m begging you!" Suddenly, the voice of Baron Mox came from the other side, pounding on the door and making a thud, thud, thud.

Chen Ke felt a breeze brush past, and he frowned, turning around only to find himself standing on the street.

"Why did I... teleport outside again?" Chen Ke puzzled, as nothing in this subjective world made sense.

Chen Ke noticed a small copper key inserted in the door handle on the outside, which meant someone had locked the door from the outside. He pinched the key and tentatively turned it left, and the lock made a clicking sound.

Click clack... The door unlocked.

With a bang, the door in front of him burst open, and a man wearing a white shirt and black pants rushed out, almost stumbling into Chen Ke’s arms.

If he guessed correctly, this must be Baron Mox, the same man he saw in Lady Katherine’s bedroom.

"Kather... Who are you?" Baron Mox looked up, a face still showing a trace of narrow escape, but upon seeing Chen Ke in front of him, his face turned to confusion.

"Baron Mox. I am the Secret Keeper..." Chen Ke said.

"The Secret... What is that?" Baron Mox asked, puzzled.

"Ah..." Chen Ke looked up at the stars and moon in the sky, realizing that in this era, the Secret Keeper was not a publicly known organization like the Administration Bureau, known to only a very few.

"I’m afraid you have come to the wrong place, sir," Mox said, standing up and trying to hide his panic.

"I know, this is your wife’s dream realm, if I’m not mistaken," Chen Ke said.

Baron Mox had scant hair and wore round glasses, his face looking somewhat comical. Seeing Chen Ke so calm, and his gear somewhat impressive, Mox cautiously asked, "You... are a Secret Keeper? What is that?"

"An organization specifically for dealing with situations like yours, tell me, Mr. Mox, what is this? Where did you get it from?" Chen Ke pulled out the vial of blood from his chest.

"This is..." Mox took the blood vial, his breathing growing a bit rapid.

"You seem very nervous, Mr. Mox," Chen Ke said.

"William... It was provided by William!" Baron Mox hastened to say.

"What does William do? What’s in the bottle?" Chen Ke pressed on.

"Mr. William of Langdon King’s College... the College’s principal, I don’t know how he got this stuff, this vial contains blood, but it’s not human blood, nor the blood of chickens, cows, or sheep, I swear, I’m a doctor," Baron Mox said.

"Your wife has been injected with quite a bit of this blood," Chen Ke said, taking back the vial of blood from Baron Mox’s hands.

"My Katherine... she’s ill, only this blood can alleviate her pain," Baron Mox lamented, clutching his thinning hair.

"A neurological condition? Blood transfusions alone can’t cure such an illness. You’ve got yourself a big problem," Chen Ke shook his head.

The adverse effect in this dream seemed to be a reenactment of Lady Katherine’s symptoms; her pain sensors were overly sensitive, which in the dream translated to four times the damage.

"Does your wife’s dreaming cause changes to occur in your house? Are you aware of that?" Chen Ke asked.

"Of course, I know... I’m always careful, but tonight I was a bit hasty," Baron Mox admitted embarrassingly.

"Hasty... By the way, did Sean send your wife some diamonds?" Chen Ke inquired.

"Sean... the Secret Keeper’s investigation is so thorough? Indeed, that’s true. I hope those diamonds weren’t stolen or anything, I had them made into a necklace... Mr. Sean was just thanking me for the prescription for his aphrodisiac..." Baron Mox said.

"I’m sorry to say this bluntly, Mr. Mox, but you’ve been trapped in this dream for over a week now. When we found you in the room, your body... had already soiled itself..." Chen Ke shook his head.

He, too, had taken a week to revive and then stumbled upon this mess.

"I... a week...?" Baron Mox exclaimed in surprise.

"Those holy... diamonds, did you turn them all into a necklace? Besides those five blue ones, there were several orange ones and one purple one. Where did you put them?" Chen Ke leaned in close to Baron Mox, unable to wait any longer.

"Those diamonds... are they important? I... I only kept the blue ones because Katherine loves blue; I gave the rest to Mr. Edward," Baron Mox said nervously.

"What...? You just gave them away as gifts?" Chen Ke was both disappointed and angry, grabbing Baron Mox’s collar and shouting.

"I’m sorry, sir, I didn’t realize those things were so important to you," Baron Mox said in a low voice.

Chen Ke sighed and let go of Mox. Mrs. Qiong’s suite actually held no value for him; what he really wanted to retrieve were An Helei’s elegy and the moonlight.

This venture into the subjective world had felt like a bit of a loss.

"By the way, Mr. Mox, do you feel anything wrong with your body?" Chen Ke asked, wanting to confirm something to see if he was the only one suffering from the many negative effects of punishment in this dreamscape.

Mox had entered the dream, his physical body remaining outside, clutching the blood bottle.

When Chen Ke entered the dream, would his physical body remain outside? Yet he did bring Mox’s blood bottle into the dream.

What did this mean? It most likely meant that Chen Ke himself had come in directly, without leaving his body outside.

"I don’t understand what you mean," Mox spread his hands.

Chen Ke kicked Mox.

"Ow. Sir, what are you doing?" Mox immediately stood up and took a few steps back.

"Does it hurt?" Chen Ke asked.

"Umm... no, it doesn’t hurt, but what you’re doing is strange. Are you trying to bully me?" Mox said.

"Tsck..." Chen Ke pondered with a pinched chin, his guess seemed to be correct.

Mox, as a common person, had his soul pulled into the dreamscape, but Chen Ke came in with his physical body directly and could even bring things from the outside world with him.

"Why is there such a difference?" Chen Ke muttered to himself.

"Sir, you’re looking very strange, I suggest we part ways. How about that?" Mox was somewhat afraid of Chen Ke, who was currently eyeing him with a weird gaze.

Maria had said that killing the other person in the dream would awaken them.

"Mr. Mox, if you wake up later, please change your pants first, then tell Miss Maria that I’m still inside," Chen Ke said.

"What do you mean?" Mox asked.

Without another word, Chen Ke threw a Spiritual Power Crystal Gun at Mox.

"Whoosh!"

The slender blue long spear pierced through his chest, puncturing a large hole in his breastbone, as flesh and blood mixed with shattered bone splattered against the wall from the wound in his back.

"Guoh!! Cough cough... Ugh ahh ahh..." Mox collapsed onto the floor, clutching his wound, his body slowly turning transparent.

"Ah... I... I’m waking up!" Mox spoke through a mouthful of blood, but he seemed to see something, his face flashing with an excited smile, before he completely vanished from Chen Ke’s sight.

"Alright... you’re next, Lady Katherine," Chen Ke said, as he walked into the Mox mansion.
