Chapter 419 Secret Keeper
Chapter 419: Chapter 419 Secret Keeper
Blood filled the chambers of the revolver, rapidly solidifying into the shape of bullets; a red mist, akin to dry ice, wafted from the crevices of the cylinder.
Ignoring his curiosity, Chen Ke gritted his teeth, raised the gun, and squeezed the trigger at the monster’s malformed face.
The revolver emitted a crisp sound of gunfire, indistinguishable from regular bullets; the only difference was the flash at the muzzle wasn’t firework-like but a red blood light.
"Pop pop pop pop pop pop!"
Six bullets struck the deformed cheek, creating six indentations. Although they didn’t penetrate its face, the impact was enough to make the creature cry out in pain.
The monster threw Chen Ke to the ground, roaring as it clutched its face. Chen Ke’s chest and abdominal wounds were rapidly healing. He touched his own abs, never wanting to experience the pain of being gnawed on again.
Spiritual Energy remained sealed, but at least Chen Ke had a slight chance of striking back; the pain in his abdomen also subsided slightly— the fierce blood toxicity was quieting down.
Still, the pain was intense—Chen Ke curled up, barely managing to stand while bending over, completely drained and covered in cold sweat from behind.
After firing six shots, Chen Ke didn’t know how he’d done it. He opened the revolver’s cylinder cover and dumped out the empty casings.
"The bullets I just fired out... must’ve been my blood..." Chen Ke murmured to himself, feeling the flow of blood within him. The cold dead blood moved towards the direction of the gun in response to his emotions.
"That’s it!" Chen Ke grasped the knack; blood emanated from the palm of his gun-holding hand, surging into the chamber in one go.
He opened the cylinder cover again to find it now loaded with six blood-red bullets.
The monster opened its mouth with bits of his own flesh still inside; by its action, Chen Ke knew it was about to spew a column of blood at him once more.
The blood’s toxicity was too fierce; Chen Ke didn’t want to be sprayed again, but he was also not in any shape to dodge by throwing himself aside. He raised his hand and shot, hitting the creature’s face before it could spew blood again.
The bullet nearly entered its mouth, striking at the corner and spurting out purple fluid.
These bullets could hurt the monster, just like the Spiritual Bullets!
Encouraged, Chen Ke clutched his abdomen and slowly moved to the side of the creature. As he walked, he kept firing, looking for the monster’s weak spot.
The Divine Blood Bullets, made entirely from his blood, didn’t need casing ejection—they were like unlimited ammunition without the need for magazine changes, though the action to chamber a round was still necessary.
From a scientific standpoint, this made no sense; regular guns use a firing pin to ignite the gunpowder in the casing, propelling the bullet. Could there be gunpowder inside the Divine Blood Bullets?
Chen Ke pulled out a bullet to examine it closely in his palm; the crystal-clear Divine Blood Bullet, like a blood crystallization, turned into vapor and disappeared into his skin after a few seconds.
As long as it works, it doesn’t have to be scientific...
Chen Ke felt somewhat better, able to jog slightly now. He saw the Type-67 pistol he had dropped earlier on the ground, and after firing a few more shots at the monster and waiting for an opportunity, he rolled forward and picked up the gun.
Repeating the process, the blood surged through the gaps into the magazine. After waiting a moment, Chen Ke pulled out the magazine and saw it was already loaded; unlike the revolver bullets, these were modern bullets that fit this particular gun!
The Type-67 was evidently much more practical than the revolver. Chen Ke holstered the revolver and started to aim with the Type-67 pistol. Although red blood light still appeared at the muzzle, the gunfire noise was significantly quieter.
It seemed the Divine Blood Bullets behaved logically... Gunshot sound, power, and bullet type all automatically matched...
Chen Ke continued to return fire, buying himself time, and his physical condition was also improving.
As his visceral pain lessened, the seal on his Spiritual Energy was lifted.
Chen Ke seized the right moment, dodging the monster’s stinging attack with a roll to the side and flung a time bomb directly at the monster’s head.
Halting its thoughts turned out to be more useful than stopping its body.
The time bubble burst on the monster’s face, encompassing its entire upper body. From that moment, the monster was utterly immobilized.
Chen Ke quickly approached, his entire body clad in black armor, and summoned An Helei’s Ash in his right hand, touching the monster’s lower body with a scorching temperature of 500 degrees.
The soft, worm-like lower body hissed as it roasted, juices splattering everywhere. Even the once plump sac-like part shriveled and contracted due to the intense heat. The monster’s upper body was frozen in time, but its lower half wasn’t, and even without the brain’s command, its body twisted wildly under the stimulus of intense pain.
Chen Ke upped the ante, the temperature continued to climb, scorching the surrounding walls black, while chunks of stone crumbled noisily from the ceiling.
Chen Ke summoned the Moonlight Greatsword, cleaving at the junction of the monster’s body, splitting it in two. Green liquid gushed out, while its upper body was still suspended mid-air by the time bubble.
Chen Ke stepped back a few paces and deactivated the time bubble. The area inside it hadn’t been affected by the high temperature, but once the time stop was lifted, the accumulated heat of dozens of seconds erupted in an instant within the space, causing a fiery explosion.
The monster screamed in agony, its body ignited by the blaze and plummeted to the ground, looking utterly miserable.
Its shiny wings crackled in the flames, and its two insect-like limbs turned black as they roasted, emitting a foul burnt odor while hopelessly spewing diseased blood.
Chen Ke noticed that while the upper half of the monster bled purple blood, the lower half had green blood. It seemed the red diseased blood it spouted was not its own but resembled some vile magic.
During the scorching, the creature slowly quieted down, a wisp of red blood qi dissipating from its body. The upper half, charred by the intense heat, lay on the ground, emitting human-like gasps.
"Ah... finally... I am liberated at last..." the monster gasped.
Chen Ke holstered his weapon and Holy Relics, approaching the monster to see a human expression forming on its grotesque face.
"Tell me, stranger, are you... part of the Secret Keepers?" the monster asked.
"Who are you?" Chen Ke replied with a question, unfamiliar with the Secret Keeper organization.
"I am... Florence... an elite hunter of the Secret Keepers..." Florence said.
"Why have you turned into this...?" Chen Ke asked.
"Master William... craved the knowledge of great beings; he injected too much into me..." Florence answered.
"Great beings... are you talking about that cockroach?" Chen Ke asked.
"We shouldn’t have snatched it from the castle... That blood isn’t meant for humans to bear... It needs the blood of children to neutralize..." Florence’s voice grew weaker.
"Wait... have you seen an Asian?" Chen Ke crouched next to Florence, asking.
"I don’t know... too much blood... I implore you to do something for me, stranger," Florence gasped, on the brink of death.
"What would you have me do?" Chen Ke sighed.
"Tell the Secret Keepers, the Academy has been corrupted... Master William has turned into a monster... They must be hunted down," Florence said.
"Alright," Chen Ke said.
"Then... on my behalf, extend my deepest apologies to Miss Maria... Florence... can no longer accompany her to the park..." With a long sigh, Florence breathed no more.
Chen Ke stood up, hearing the clanking of massive chains. He looked towards the wall where the stone door was once again slowly opening, and Xu Jing emerged from within.
