Chapter 410: Abyss of Pain
Chapter 410: Chapter 410: Abyss of Pain
Chen Ke certainly wouldn’t think that Xu Jing had just died like that, as if in his time death didn’t even exist for this woman.
On the contrary, she was using this method to traverse between two realities.
Xu Jing had left a message behind, not to look at the compound eyes of that monster, which could transmit a malicious meme through eye contact.
It was just like the great black pillar of 2006, one glance would turn a person into red ash. The monster, however, plunged a person immediately into a state afflicted with some severe disease.
From the state Xu Jing was just in, Chen Ke believed it must be some serious acute gastrointestinal or internal disease.
In addition to vomiting and the whites of her eyes turning bloodshot, possibly accompanied by a total weakness of the body, Xu Jing had neatly slit her own throat to return to her reality, to avoid further enduring the agony of the disease.
But it was merely a monster of the 20-hour level, tough indeed, but not a match for the contract demon.
Chen Ke wanted to end the battle quickly, his gaze settled on the lower half of the creature, and his right hand formed a soul gun, which he then projected towards the creature’s lower limbs.
The soul gun Chen Ke had empowered with 10 hours of his lifespan shot out because he wanted to instantly kill it without much fuss.
Furthermore, since such a monster was openly bound here, one could infer that those associated with it must already have reached the Transcendent level.
Thereby, there was no need to hide anything now.
The monster was just more than ten steps away from Chen Ke, the hefty soul gun nearly pierced through the monster’s lower abdomen the moment it left Chen Ke’s hand, bisecting it.
Like a squashed cockroach, the limbs of the monster emitted an uncomfortable splintering noise as the soul gun sliced it in half at the waist.
After penetrating the monster, the soul gun burst through its back, exploding a bloom of blood in the sewage, and the surrounding walls too were shaken by this disturbance, causing a continual fall of dust and stones from above.
The monster’s outer skin flipped open like a shell, and its upper body fell into the blood-red sewage, its six pairs of arms flailing grotesquely.
Face down in the sewage, with its six arms slapping the water surface trying to turn over, Chen Ke stepped forward, summoned the Moonlight Greatsword, and stepped on the black gelatinous back of the creature, thrusting the sword in.
The blue blade easily sliced through the black muscle of the creature, releasing a foul stench.
Then, clusters of maggots mixed with yellow-green fluid poured out of the wound, floating on the red water surface under the white light seeping from the manhole cover above, resembling white sesame seeds sprinkled on a red milkshake.
The corpse of the monster floated up, utterly dead.
"Is that all you’ve got?" Chen Ke withdrew the greatsword, stepped back a few paces, and scoffed.
A wisp of black mist surged towards Chen Ke’s chest, he covered the Sun Mark, and in the upper right corner of his vision, a line of text appeared. "Gained a large chunk of pained soul."
"Got it..." Chen Ke spread his palm, with a thought, a black, twisted flame of the soul appeared in his palm.
This was the monster’s soul, not deformed but in pain, Chen Ke examined carefully and saw the information of this soul.
[Large Chunk of Pained Soul]
[Effects: Increase lifespan limit by 50 hours or open a Teleportation Gate once]
[From a soul of a not fully transformed deformed creature, a closer look reveals two souls intertwined.]
[No matter what you’ve been through, mom will protect you...]
Chen Ke used the tip of his foot to flip the corpse of the monster, noticing the slightly bulged chest carapace and the cracked segments of the six-pack abdomen, looking inside, there was a mass of white rotten flesh.
Having two souls might be why the capacity is so high?
Chen Ke didn’t rush to squeeze it, as his own lifespan was still full. He thought to wait until he was at his wit’s end to use it.
At that moment, he heard sparse crawling sounds around him, as if a large group of people were using their hands and feet to crawl... no, they were crawling on the walls at the top of the drainage ditch.
Chen Ke activated his Spiritual Vision but saw nothing; the beings approaching were not human.
Several creatures, identical to the one at his feet, squeezed out of the iron door ahead first, just like the one he had just killed.
"Hmm... it seems they are transformed in batches," Chen Ke didn’t look at their compound eyes but merely glanced at them briefly, quickly shifting his gaze away from the creatures’ faces.
The surrounding crawling noises grew louder, and those creatures continuously emerged from the iron doors around, piling one layer on top of another. Chen Ke instantly felt the pressure; he turned his head back to see the passage they had come through was also filled with these creatures.
Chen Ke slowly moved toward the center of the pool while the creatures approached him, their compound eyes turning from black to red.
Surrounded by these insect-like monsters, each over three meters tall, even Chen Ke felt a bit intimidated. These creatures didn’t scream; they maintained the frequency of insect-like movements, a glance alone was enough to give someone nightmares.
Almost simultaneously, they lunged at Chen Ke. He took a deep breath and flung a time grenade at the group of creatures in front of him.
When the transparent bubble, glowing with white light, exploded in the air three meters away, at least twenty monsters were frozen within the Time Bubble.
Unlike touch-based time stops, the Time Bubble formed by the time grenade could freeze objects in mid-air.
Chen Ke quickly threw a spirit gun with a 15-hour charge behind him, piercing through at least forty creatures and blowing the iron gates of the corridor away.
All this happened within seconds; however, two hands are not enough against many, let alone when the creature has more than one pair of hands. He felt countless hands grabbing his limbs, and he was lifted into the air.
It was like being a football star lifted by teammates after scoring the winning goal, but Chen Ke’s feeling was more akin to a helpless girl being groped by dozens of men.
Underneath him were those creatures, holding him, over a dozen hands tearing his shirt open, their claws scratching blood trails on his abs and chest, and several hands reached into the collar at his back, scratching his shoulder blades.
His thighs were tightly held by many arms; cold, hard, insect-like fingers probed into his pant legs, groping his calves.
"Fuck! Fuck!" Chen Ke cursed under his breath. Five creatures pressed their heads against his cheeks, their large red compound eyes flashing a dangerous dim light, forcing Chen Ke to make eye contact with them.
Meanwhile, Jacob was rushing through a dim corridor; his footsteps were swift but silent, the shadow of his hood covering half of his face.
From behind the brick wall came the sound of guards running; they were operating hinges, unleashing monsters kept in cages in the lower chambers.
Jacob made the sign of the cross on his chest, leaped over the guards’ heads, and jumped through the drainage system that resembled a labyrinth.
The surroundings slowly changed, and when Jacob ducked into the shadows and slipped through a thick wooden door, he was no longer in a sewer but in the underground facilities of the academy.
"This is... their laboratory..." Jacob muttered to himself.
The entire underground facility resembled an opera house, with circular wards around a spiral staircase leading downward, the corridors so narrow that only two people could walk abreast.
Only small kerosene lamps lit the place, one every twenty steps, illuminating about five steps ahead in the quiet darkness, where one could faintly hear the low moans of non-human beings, both painful and sorrowful.
Jacob gripped the handrail, looking down into the space below, where numerous tiny lights twinkled in the darkness, spiraling downward unsettlingly.
The disturbance in the sewer didn’t plunge this place into chaos, but it indeed attracted most of the guards, making it an opportune moment for intrusion.
Jacob pulled out a hook attached to a rope, hooked it onto the stair railing, flipped over, and leaped from the corridor into the dark abyss.
