Chapter 394: Chapter 394: Uninvited Guest
The camera’s abilities went far beyond creating an amusement park; in the hands of those with sinister intentions, it could yield tremendously evil effects.
In the smallest scale, it could alter political landscapes, and on a larger scale, it could change eras.
Considering the Foundation’s theories about altering realities and the future... Lin Yaying’s decision to blacklist Ms. Harlowin was probably just because she possessed this camera.
But Lin Yaying’s information was likely outdated, as she wouldn’t have known Ms. Harlowin was trapped in the world within the photo.
Of course, this was just Chen Ke’s speculation.
Holding the camera in one hand, Chen Ke summoned a Black Knight’s arm armor and then ignited An Helei’s Magic Flames, letting the high temperature slowly melt the camera.
The white shell of the camera emitted a foul stench as the lens cracked with a loud pop, the heat making Ms. Harlowin step back.
Perhaps it was her first time witnessing Holy Relics and Transcendent Skills up close, Ms. Harlowin covered her nose, her eyes fixed intently on Chen Ke’s right hand, a look of novelty on her face.
The camera shell completely dissolved, leaving only some charred metal parts in Chen Ke’s palm, which hadn’t melted due to the temperature not being high enough.
In Chen Ke’s eyes, the remains of the camera no longer carried the information box of a mutated object; it had thoroughly transformed into a lump of trash.
He couldn’t keep the camera for his own use, since it was highly possible that it was a key piece in determining whether the assassination contract was fulfilled.
If destroying the camera could satisfy Lin Yaying, then he wouldn’t have to kill Ms. Harlowin after all. She was just a woman chasing an elusive dream.
"Ms. Harlowin... I have a few questions for you, and they’re important, so I hope you answer truthfully," Chen Ke said as he threw the remains of the camera to the ground, then recalled his arm armor.
"Um... yes, please ask..." Ms. Harlowin sat down.
"Do you know Li Moyang?" Chen Ke asked bluntly.
"Li Moyang..." Upon hearing that name, Ms. Harlowin fell into a moment of recollection.
Her expression indicated that she knew of Li Moyang.
"I remember he’s the son of the President of Li’s Heavy Industry," Ms. Harlowin replied.
"So... you know him...?" Chen Ke said, somewhat disappointed, as Ms. Harlowin’s acquaintance with Li Moyang meant that the assassination contract might have little to do with the camera.
"Not exactly. Eleven years ago, I accompanied Anderson to the Fei Huang Republic for a business meeting and met the President of Li’s Heavy Industry, who mentioned his son," Ms. Harlowin explained.
"Have you ever met him?" Chen Ke asked.
"Never met him, not once," Ms. Harlowin shook her head.
"Just a name you heard in conversation a decade ago... How can you remember it so clearly?" Chen Ke questioned.
"I remember everything that happened that day very clearly; it was in 1998. I bought that camera on the streets of the Fei Huang Republic that day," Ms. Harlowin replied.
"Oh..." Chen Ke was at a loss for words, realizing Ms. Harlowin indeed had no connection with Li Moyang.
"Why are you suddenly asking me this?" Ms. Harlowin appeared puzzled.
"Ms. Harlowin... what do you intend to do next? Hmm?" Chen Ke did not answer her question.
"I... I might report to the police... but obviously, I’m standing in front of an agent from the Administration Bureau, so I think I might first ask for your advice? You said everything was caused by Anderson, so what will the board do about him?" Ms. Harlowin inquired.
"Ms. Harlowin, in their eyes, you’ve been dead for a long time, and your husband has been replaced by your clone in this world to continue modeling, and that has been going on for quite some time..." Chen Ke shook his head.
"I... I suppose that’s something he would do," Ms. Harlowin’s hands trembled slightly, but she still managed to maintain the poise of a mature woman.
"But there’s still a chance, especially since the outside world doesn’t know all about this camera," Chen Ke stated.
Anderson knew it would only be a matter of time before his wife was freed from the photo, as Chen Ke had killed Felipe and destroyed the camera, so the clones still out there would also vanish.
"I could denounce Anderson... he’s committed at least two major crimes: harboring a mutated object and intentional harm. Plus, you already know what happened to me," Ms. Harlowin declared.
Indeed, Ms. Harlowin was correct, but unfortunately, Chen Ke was not from the Administration Bureau, and in this case, he did not want to involve Diana.
"I’m sorry, but this is a classified mission, and I can’t provide any testimony," Chen Ke stated, not wanting Ms. Harlowin to spread the word either; the fewer people who knew, the better.
"That’s not fair... then I..." Ms. Harlowin was somewhat at a loss.
"My advice is not to denounce your husband if you still consider him your spouse. He must already know something’s gone wrong since I just destroyed the camera. Your duplicates out there would’ve likely vanished," Chen Ke stated.
"I... I understand," Ms. Harlowin grasped what Chen Ke meant.
With no more duplicates, her real self had returned, essentially rendering the past as if Anderson had merely dreamed it up.
"I can’t denounce you in court, but I remain an agent of the Administration Bureau, and the Bureau is aware of this situation," Chen Ke reminded.
"Will you help me?" Ms. Harlowin asked.
"Give your husband my number, then remind him that the Administration Bureau is always watching him," Chen Ke smiled.
"Alright... I will," Ms. Harlowin said as she wrote down Chen Ke’s number. Looking at Chen Ke, she was unsure how to repay him.
"How can I thank you?" Ms. Harlowin asked.
"Stay away from Li Moyang..." Chen Ke stated.
"I can certainly do that... I don’t even know him..." Ms. Harlowin nodded.
"And if you encounter any mutated objects again, don’t play around with them. Contact me right away," Chen Ke directed.
"Um... if I ever come across any such things again... I’ll call you," Ms. Harlowin replied.
Chen Ke and Ms. Harlowin exited the building to find themselves in a large warehouse, which Ms. Harlowin immediately recognized as belonging to Lescott Spirit Production’s logistics company.
Though they had been busy in the photo world for a long time, time in the photo was computed separately, so only about half an hour had passed when they emerged.
"You know the way home, right?" Chen Ke asked.
"I’m still thinking about how to face Anderson," Ms. Harlowin shook her head.
Just then, the sound of screeching brakes came from outside the warehouse.
The warehouse door slowly opened, and through the towering shelves, they saw several black sedans parked outside.
Standing at the doorway of a small building on the second floor of the warehouse, they watched as a group of gunmen emerged from the sedans, one of whom was a stout middle-aged man with a cane walking into the warehouse.
"That’s my husband..." Ms. Harlowin said.
Chen Ke pulled out his 67-style pistol, sensing trouble from the arrivals.
