Chapter 364: Chapter 364 The Second Foundation
At 9 p.m., within the ruins of a dilapidated residential building in Opportunity City.
A mutant, whose body was covered in tumors, burst through the rotten door, looking fearfully behind, constantly muttering something.
The tumors on the mutant’s body secreeted green acidic fluid, and it gripped its own intestines in its right hand—its weapon.
By attacking with its highly corrosive gastric acid, it melted away all its enemies—this was its usual tactic.
It and its companions had used this trick to eliminate many commissioning investigators and even some isolated agents from the Administration Bureau.
However, tonight, all of its companions in the ruins had been slaughtered by a Black Knight.
It frantically climbed toward the rooftop, speeding along the debris-littered hallway, a long-forgotten emotion enveloping its rotting heart once again.
Fear...
Since becoming this creature, it had ceased to feel fear...but today, everything had changed...
There were no footsteps of the knight behind it; it leaned against the wall, brewing a plan to find a new hiding spot after escaping from here.
"Bang!"
Green juice mixed with pale yellow body fluid splattered on the opposite wall.
It looked down and saw a huge azure blade piercing through its abdomen, and the wall behind it immediately crumbled into a pile of debris.
The large sword swiped sideways, cutting it in half; its upper body fell to the ground.
"The last one."
The black armor on his body slowly faded, and Chen Ke planted Moonlight on the ground before taking out his phone from his pocket.
"It’s Li Moyang," came a call.
"I thought you wouldn’t call me again," Chen Ke said.
"I wasn’t in a good mood last night, I offer you my apologies. I think we can continue our collaboration," Li Moyang said.
"If you say we can, doesn’t that make me look bad?" Chen Ke said.
"Ding dong..." Suddenly, Chen Ke’s phone received a dozen text messages.
Chen Ke, surprised, saw that his offshore account had received 3 million union coins, 200,000 each, in a total of 15 transactions.
"I’ve transferred some money to your account; this should express my apology and my sincerity to continue working with you," Li Moyang said.
Three million union coins were not a small sum; Chen Ke would only get a little over 200,000 from robbing a bank, but with Li Moyang doing this much, Chen Ke didn’t feel at a loss.
"The founder of Si’s Consortium is dead, I’m curious about who you want to take down next," Chen Ke said.
"I once promised you... Help me take down Corrigan, and I’ll let you experience what it truly means to be Transcendent. Now it’s time for me to fulfill my promise. Come to my mansion, there’s someone who wants to meet you," Li Moyang finished, and then hung up the call.
Chen Ke pocketed his phone, rested his hands on Moonlight’s guard, and looked out at the night sky through the window. People stranger than the Administration Bureau and Yasla were emerging; something was changing.
To conserve his soul, Chen Ke had been hunting prey through various abandoned buildings and factories all day; it was time for a rest.
The taxi brought Chen Ke to the gates of Annie Roger’s Mansion; he stood outside the iron gate, looking at the surveillance camera atop the stone pillar.
With a swoosh, the iron gate automatically opened a crack, just wide enough for Chen Ke to squeeze through sideways.
The last time he was here, Chen Ke found this mansion a bit odd, it seemed to hide the situation inside and block the effects of Spiritual Vision, indicating Li Moyang was not just the simple CEO of Wuan Heavy Industry.
Upon entering Li Moyang’s reception hall again, Chen Ke saw another woman; he was shocked, for she was the woman he had encountered in the coffee shop during the assassination of the professor.
"It’s great that you could come, Chen Ke. Let me introduce—" Li Moyang began.
"I think I’ll introduce myself," the woman said, looking towards Chen Ke with a smile.
Chen Ke didn’t know if she remembered him, he guessed probably not. After all, their encounter at the coffee shop had been brief and he hadn’t exposed himself when assassinating the professor.
"You can call me Lin Yaying. I have a very close working relationship with Li Moyang... Since he trusts you, I think I can trust you too," Lin Yaying said.
Chen Ke examined Lin Yaying, who was wearing a tight red minidress under a jacket. Compared to Xu Jing, she was younger and more enchanting.
From her expression and tone a moment ago, it seemed she hadn’t recognized him.
"Lin Yaying... My name is Chen Ke, as you probably know," Chen Ke made a redundant statement.
"Chen Ke, what you’re about to hear in this room might shatter your understanding of the world, but you must believe it and keep it a secret from others," Li Moyang cautioned.
"Oh? It sounds mysterious...?" Chen Ke looked at Li Moyang.
"Chen Ke, what do you think time is?" Lin Yaying asked with a smile.
Here we go again...
"I don’t understand why you’re asking this," Chen Ke said as he looked at Lin Yaying.
"Just answer," Li Moyang insisted.
"Time... Time is just a damn necklace," Chen Ke replied with a laugh.
Lin Yaying paused for a moment, looking profoundly at Chen Ke. Li Moyang remained expressionless, picked up his whisky from beside him, and took a sip to hide his surprise.
"Can you explain your analogy a bit?" Lin Yaying asked.
"Of course, time is like a priceless necklace displayed in a store window; everyone can see it, but very few can wear it around their necks... Like this gentleman here, he can buy others’ time with union coins," Chen Ke pointed at Li Moyang.
"Pfft..." Li Moyang choked on his drink, furrowed his brows, and then tossed the remaining whisky into the fireplace.
"Hmm... interesting, so that’s how you see it," Lin Yaying chuckled, her smile showing relief.
"What’s your story?" Chen Ke asked.
"Do you believe in time travel, Chen Ke?" Li Moyang asked at that moment.
"I’ve seen plenty of time-travel movies. Pretty familiar with that stuff," shrugged Chen Ke.
"What you’ll hear next will definitely surprise you, Chen Ke, definitely," Li Moyang said with a smile.
Lin Yaying looked at Chen Ke, her eyes filled with curiosity, as if she found him to be an interesting person.
"So, are you going to tell me what this is all about tonight?" Chen Ke asked.
"Of course, of course... I come from an organization, similar in nature to your Spiritual Ability Administration but incorporates the functions of a research institute and is much more powerful," Lin Yaying explained.
"Oh..." Chen Ke seemed to have guessed Lin Yaying’s background.
"I am an agent of the H.C.P. Foundation, Chen Ke, from 315 years in the future," Lin Yaying revealed.
"2325...?" Although Chen Ke had anticipated this, he was still somewhat astonished when Lin Yaying mentioned it.
The Foundation had sent two agents back to the year 2009, and there might be more; this year must be significant for them.
"You don’t seem too surprised; perhaps you don’t believe me," Lin Yaying noted.
Chen Ke waved his hands, saying, "No, no... I just have a natural poker face."
"Chen Ke, don’t take this as a joke. I can tell you, she has brought technology from over a hundred years ahead of our time, beyond anything you could imagine," Li Moyang added.
Chen Ke didn’t disbelieve, he merely felt uneasy. Xu Jing had asked him to help combat the Clan, and Lin Yaying had mentioned the Founder Plan in her previous conversation with the professor...
"HCP..." he murmured. The Human Cradle Plan Foundation, a spiritual organization from the future capable of altering the timeline for its own purposes—he certainly didn’t want to end up like those people from 2006...
"Yes, H.C.P., the Human Connection Project Foundation," Lin Yaying explained.
Chen Ke looked at Lin Yaying, his face showing a profoundly meaningful expression.
