Chapter 362: Chapter 362: The Fei Huang Tragedy

Fei Huang Republic, Wuan City.

2004, noon 12:00.

On the 74th floor banquet hall of Li’s Heavy Industry Group Building, a significant shareholder banquet was being held today.

The Group’s President Li Yan and his wife Han Yanyun were mingling with the guests, exchanging cups and conversing warmly.

As a leading company in the world’s heavy industry, Li’s Heavy Industry had never gone public and had adopted family management.

This issue had been criticized by many shareholders. In the past few years at shareholder meetings, there had always been voices calling for bringing in professional managers and an IPO, and the Li couple had constantly been devising strategies to cope with the directors and shareholders.

Today’s banquet was primarily meant to introduce Li Moyang to the board members in preparation for the future presidential transition.

Li Moyang, aged 24, stood in front of a floor-to-ceiling window with a champagne glass in hand, overlooking the panoramic view of Wuan City.

Wuan City is a southern city, divided into Jiangbei and Jiangnan by a large river. The southern part is the important commercial area of Wuan City, while Jiangbei is the development zone for emerging technologies.

Today was cloudless. Standing on the 74th floor and looking across the river, the world was clear and bright, and the street vehicles, tiny as ants, were clearly visible and orderly, which seemed very boring.

A playful whistling sounded beside Li Moyang’s ear, and he turned to see it was his mother, Han Yanyun.

Han Yanyun, aged 44, still charming in a black business dress, maintained an exquisite figure, and her dress’s fine fabric shimmered in the warm yellow light.

"Look who this handsome guy is? You look really good today," Han Yanyun said with a smile, holding her glass of champagne as she walked to Li Moyang’s side.

"I don’t like blue suits, or this dark green tie, I..." Li Moyang sighed.

"I think it’s not the clothes you dislike," Han Yanyun could see through Li Moyang’s thoughts.

"I’d rather be in the laboratory; this place makes me uncomfortable," Li Moyang said.

"You need to learn to adapt, you will eventually have to take the telescope from the captain’s hand," Han Yanyun smiled.

"Why can’t we hire someone to help manage the company?" Li Moyang asked.

Han Yanyun took a sip of champagne, put her hand on her son’s shoulder, and looked out over Wuan City through the window.

"Look at this city, Li Moyang. Thirty years ago your father came here, led unemployed workers, and used his only savings to start the first nail factory. Everyone worked hard together through a workers’ cooperative, striving together towards prosperity. Li’s Heavy Industry doesn’t just belong to the Li family, it belongs to 200,000 workers," Han Yanyun said.

Li Moyang nodded.

"Li Moyang, this city and these workers raised you, we are one with them, and these workers are Li’s Heavy Industry. You know the capitalist way, bringing in professional managers, followed by massive layoffs, going public, playing the stock game, and then the whole group would start rotting from the inside," Han Yanyun continued.

"So, cheer up, the heavy burden on your father’s shoulders will one day fall on yours, be prepared, and meanwhile, get to know the shareholders at today’s banquet," Han Yanyun patted Li Moyang’s shoulder.

Li Moyang sighed. At that moment, a shareholder approached to greet Han Yanyun.

"Mrs. Li, you really shine today. The president’s speech is about to begin, may I have a chat with you alone?"

"Of course, how about we go over there?"

Watching his mother walk away, Li Moyang tilted his head back and drained his champagne at once, then placed the glass on a table nearby.

After composing himself, Li Moyang looked towards the distant sky out the window, where two tiny black dots were moving rapidly.

"Today, I have summoned everyone here to announce two important matters, both of crucial importance to the Li Consortium."

At the same time, Li Yan stood at the podium in the banquet hall, beginning the important part of today’s banquet: the president’s speech.

Everyone politely clapped, gathered around the podium, and quickly fell silent.

Li Moyang straightened his tie and walked towards the podium, but having been a bit slow, he could only stay on the outer edge.

"Firstly," Li Yan announced, "from next month, Li’s Heavy Industry will be renamed to Wuan Heavy Industry."

"Oh... a name change?" A small stir arose among the crowd.

Changing the name of a major international conglomerate was a matter of immense importance and care. Since it was announced at the shareholders’ banquet, it meant that the board of directors had already approved the proposal.

"Wuan Heavy Industry... belongs to the workers. This company’s success today isn’t due to just one man but rather the collective effort of 200,000 workers and the immense support of Wuan City," Li Yan passionately explained the initial intent for the name change.

"Um..." Li Moyang felt a tremor, as if the floor was quivering. He looked around, and others felt it too, but since the president was delivering a speech, nobody really made a big deal out of it.

"The second matter... the board has decided to appoint Li Moyang to a new position as one of the directors of the group," Li Yan continued.

"Oh... the president’s son."

"It’s his son."

Murmurs arose amongst the crowd.

Li Moyang, as a second-generation rich, was afforded many privileges within the group by his father, which could be hard for outsiders to appreciate. Li Yan was aware of the resistance this could stir in public opinion, but he wasn’t too worried.

"Li Moyang is my son, only 24 years old. At 24, joining the board of directors could certainly raise some eyebrows. But today, I want to open my heart to all of you. Years ago, my wife Han Yanyun and I, along with a few brothers, started our first factory, doing only one thing—making nails," Li Yan reminisced.

"From selling nails, we made our first pot of gold and then started learning new technology, bringing in new machines, creating things much bigger than nails! Tractors, harvesters, boats, cranes, mining trucks, bridge building machines! Back then, we used to say, our workers have the power! There’s nothing we can’t make!"

As he spoke, Li Yan became visibly moved, his gaze drifting to past struggles, as if scenes from the last thirty years were playing before his eyes. His tone of voice dropped its formality, returning to his distinctive accent.

"But let me tell you... those things were made by our workers, and I cannot claim those as my sole accomplishments. The best thing I’ve ever made, guess what? It is my son," Li Yan said, looking towards Li Moyang.

The surrounding shareholders also followed Li Yan’s gaze, focusing on Li Moyang.

"He graduated from MIT in the United Federation at the age of 20, joined the group’s research department at 21, and has been a leader in advancing our group’s development in materials and mechanical power. He has always been a leading figure in Li’s Heavy Industry’s R&D department," Li Yan stated.

"I’ve long heard of the strength of the group’s R&D department, but I didn’t expect the leader to be Mr. Li," a shareholder close to Li Moyang couldn’t help but reach out to shake his hand.

Li Moyang symbolically shook it, offering an awkward smile.

He saw his father and mother smiling at him from the podium, they seemed to say something, but the sounds around him felt muffled.

Time seemed to slow down at that moment.

A black flying sword pierced through the wall on the right side of the hall.

The shattered wall pieces slowly scattered through the air as the sword flew through the gap between Li Yan and the guests, a white sonic boom tearing them to shreds.

Li Yan’s head was cut into six segments by the blast, resembling a red flower, his white skull was like it was scoured by fierce winds, creating an exposed cut, his pink brain scattering in the air.

Han Yanyun’s upper body was ripped open from left to right, her pale flesh and warm yellow fat mixed with dark red blood flew towards the crowd.

The guests in the front rows were also instantly sliced into several pieces by the blast, their blood spraying onto the podium like a violently shaken can of soda.

Following the flying sword, a man dressed in black martial attire flew across the hall, over 40 years old, his right hand stretching toward the black flying sword, his face turned backward, looking down at his feet.

Another person, clad in full golden armor, followed closely, holding a silver spear, and flew toward the man in black.

These four seconds seemed extraordinarily prolonged in Li Moyang’s eyes.

After four seconds,

A massive blast and a sharp explosion of air were released in the hall, those two flying figures broke through the windows and flew out into the sky, the hall resembling a place ravaged by a tornado. People in the front rows and on the podium were lifted by the blast, slammed against the hall’s left-side windows.

Several people fell from the 74th floor as a result, Li Moyang was also lifted by the blast, hitting a nearby pillar, and grunted, feeling as if several ribs were broken.

The hall was a mess, a pool of blood and flesh. The blood-stained shareholders were lying on the floor, enduring the strong winds from the 74th floor. Li Moyang crawled towards where his parents had been, amid calls from a shareholder echoing in his ears,

"Superhumans... it was superhumans..."
