Chapter 345 Transcendent
Chapter 345: Chapter 345 Transcendent
"Fuck, Chen Ke... what the hell is this?! I got a wife, I got kids! How did I suddenly stop being human?!" Parker lamented, pacing back and forth on the spot.
"This... this is destiny! Parker, this is your power!" Chen Ke didn’t know how to comfort him, as his own body was abnormal too, which he had long since grown accustomed to.
"What kind of power is this... it’s just turning into a pile of ash... I want to go back to how I was... The institute must have a way, right?" Parker looked towards Wang Ailin, his expression too pitiful to refuse.
"I don’t know; it will take time to research. We need to first understand the definition of your current state..." Wang Ailin shook her head, her expression complex.
"Calm down, Parker, try to see if you can freely control your power..." Chen Ke soothed.
"I don’t want to turn to ash again!" Parker shouted, his mentality showing signs of collapse.
"Parker, do as I say, I have experience with this kind of thing..." Chen Ke looked at Parker with firm eyes, giving a very dependable impression.
In fact, Chen Ke was clueless, he didn’t know if Parker could freely transform between human and ash forms.
When he had reached out to touch the ashes and restored Parker to his human form earlier, it was just a try; after all, Faralis had come back to life just from a careless touch of his own.
"I don’t know, what if I can’t change back?" Parker asked.
Chen Ke looked around, picked up a thermos from the side, and poured out all the water inside.
"I’ll take you with me... and I will definitely find a way to turn you back," Chen Ke promised.
Parker looked at Chen Ke, his eyes in that moment reminiscent of an orphan’s.
"Just give it a try... being ash isn’t so bad, it’s a lot better than having a countdown stuck in your head," Chen Ke said.
It reminded him of his own experience more than two months ago, his heart ached as if it had been gouged out, waking up alone with a dagger pierced through his chest.
"I don’t want to become ash... Chen Ke." Parker still couldn’t accept it, struggling and resisting deep inside.
"Parker, this is your destiny, it chose you, now you can only accept it, there’s no second path," Chen Ke said earnestly.
Parker felt Chen Ke made sense, he stood in place, assuming a preparatory pose, although he really had no idea how to go about it.
"Either accept and adapt quickly, or become dissected and tubed, it’s your choice," Chen Ke said.
"Technically, you should be locked up in a containment facility, but right now the institute hardly has anyone normal, maybe you really can get out with us," Wang Ailin said.
Parker clenched his fists, closed his eyes, his thoughts in turmoil, but as Chen Ke said, this was destiny, and since destiny had come knocking, he had to accept it.
"Then... let’s do this!" Parker gritted his teeth.
The colors of his clothes and skin gradually turned black, and his black body began to turn into countless swirling, white ashes around him.
"You’re flying now... Parker!" Wang Ailin’s eyes widened as she scribbled in her notebook and took many photos with her phone.
Parker looked down and saw his legs had entirely turned to ash, yet he remained at standing height; in fact, he was indeed flying.
"Stay focused, don’t panic, are you feeling anything strange now?" Chen Ke asked.
"No... I feel... really good! I can still feel my hands, but they... aren’t hands..." Parker said, lifting his hands that had completely turned into whirling ashes.
Parker looked at a book on a nearby table, a stream of ash separated from his body, wrapped around the book, and then rolled it towards him.
Parker tried to flip through the book, the ashes as nimble as fingers, turning the pages one by one.
"Let yourself fully become ash, then circle around the ceiling, see if you can do it," Chen Ke said, his face taut, nervously watching Parker.
"I’ll try..." Parker said.
He closed his eyes and let his remaining human body transform; his clothes and skin gradually darkened and then turned into big clumps of ash.
Parker, in front of Chen Ke, had become a large swirl of ash revolving in mid-air.
"Try spinning!" Chen Ke said.
Unable to speak while transformed into ash, Parker could still hear Chen Ke’s voice.
As if responding to Chen Ke, the large clump of ash curled into a ball, rolled several times in front of Chen Ke, and then soared up toward the ceiling.
Since the volume of ash Parker had turned into was so large, once it spread out, it covered the entire ceiling—a dark mass resembling black moss—blocking even the incandescent light above and significantly darkening the room.
Chen Ke watched Parker anxiously, leaving Wang Ailin baffled at his side; she didn’t understand what Chen Ke was panicking about.
"Good... come back now, Parker... come back..." Chen Ke said.
Parker still lingered on the ceiling, spread out like a vast curtain of ash, its surface rippling in waves, creating an eerie sight.
"Look, the color of this ash is constantly changing between different shades of gray and black, almost as if it’s breathing!" Wang Ailin, looking up, exclaimed with her eyes wide in amazement at the phenomenon she had never seen before.
"Parker!" Chen Ke called out.
The clump of ash swiftly gathered into a ball, then poured onto the floor like sand from an hourglass, piling up into a mound over a meter high.
The mound of ash defied gravity and maintained the silhouette of a human figure, constantly rising higher until it was the height of a person.
Then the black ash slowly shifted hues and took shape, Parker’s features, limbs, and clothes all forming once again.
"Did I make it... Can I now change freely?" Parker exclaimed in surprise, looking incredulously at his own hands.
Chen Ke’s tense expression finally relaxed.
"Good, from now on, I’ll call you Mr. Ash," Chen Ke exclaimed with a relieved sigh, smiling.
"Huh? What does that mean?" Wang Ailin asked, perplexed.
"Do you read superhero comics? The rich rely on technology, the poor on mutation; obviously, Parker now has the extraordinary ability to turn into ash," Chen Ke explained with a laugh.
"I don’t see myself as any kind of superhero; I just want to get out of here, the farther the better, and never be an investigator again," Parker stated, patting the ash off his clothes without realizing it was also part of himself.
It was a natural psychological response; Chen Ke had felt the same since both had realized that their abilities and Spiritual Energy were two different things...
When Chen Ke had initially crossed over, his mood and experiences were much like what Parker was going through now—he faced inexplicable events and underwent significant bodily changes.
But Parker had Chen Ke to guide him, while Chen Ke had only himself.
"I suggest you stay away from vacuum cleaners in the future; who knows, they might pose a bigger threat to you than S-class Demon Spirits," Chen Ke advised.
"Thank you, Chen Ke; I almost lost it just now... Although I’m not feeling particularly great at the moment, at least I won’t be a burden to you all..." Parker expressed.
"It’s nothing; I could only help you to this extent, to accept your fate, but what you do from here on out... It’s all up to you," Chen Ke gestured dismissively.
Parker’s abilities, much like his own, were entirely unrelated to Spiritual Energy. Chen Ke’s attributes like killing intent, time, and so on, were never included in the classification of the eighteen types of Spiritual Attributes—what were they, then? He didn’t know.
But at least, Chen Ke knew one thing: Parker’s recent transformation was positive.
Because in his vision, Parker, who had just coalesced into dust, was constantly in a state of "mutation."
At the time, Chen Ke was very anxious because he had witnessed the behavior of hungry ghosts twisted by Spiritual Energy.
But once Parker was able to freely switch between his ash and human forms, his mutation level eventually became transcendent!
