Chapter 324: Chapter 324 Collapse
"Laura..." Nathan cautioned, noticing Conrad’s change as well.
"It’s your ship, Conrad," Laura said while placing her hand on her holster.
"Yes, it’s my ship. It has sailed with me on this inland sea for so many years without a glitch, but ever since you all boarded, the ship has become like this..." Conrad spoke as he drew his revolver.
"Conrad, calm down," Chen Ke said.
"I am calm. It’s you who have gone mad. If you hadn’t gone mad, the squid wouldn’t have appeared, and so many of my crew wouldn’t have died..." Conrad said with a laugh.
"I’m sorry, we’re very sorry... Is that what you want to hear?" Laura asked.
"Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Bitch! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" Conrad suddenly shouted and raised his gun at Laura.
At the same time, Chen Ke and Nathan also drew their guns, pointing them at Conrad. The next second, four crew members reflexively pulled out their guns, aiming at Chen Ke and Nathan.
One of the crew members pointed his gun at himself.
"If you want to commit suicide, go ahead..." Nathan said.
"What are we doing? There’s still a hole down below that we need to repair," Chen Ke said.
"It’s all your fault!" Conrad yelled angrily, pointing the gun barrel at Chen Ke.
Laura seized the opportunity to quickly draw her twin guns, aiming one at Conrad’s head and the other at his balls.
"Listen, Conrad, put down the gun. We still have a chance to save the ship. You saw it up there; the ship can still move," Nathan said, not wanting things to get out of hand.
"It’s hopeless. We’re going to sink with this ship..." Conrad bit his teeth, his eyes crazed.
Conrad’s sudden change was unexpected; just a second before, he had been discussing the leak with Nathan normally, and the next second, he had lost his mind.
Chen Ke frowned, suspecting that the woman’s appearance might have affected Conrad’s sanity.
But it didn’t quite add up; after all, Nathan didn’t go mad when the squid head appeared...
Thoughts churned in Chen Ke’s mind; intimidating the crew members with a killing aura wasn’t a solution, especially since Chen Ke and his companions didn’t know how to sail.
And he wasn’t confident he could convince a madman and the remaining four crew members, who might not listen to him.
"Put down the gun, Conrad. Let’s fix the ship first, what do you say?" Nathan looked over the ship’s side. He didn’t know the extent of the leakage, but psychologically, it felt like the water level was rising.
Chen Ke noticed a fleeting change in Conrad’s eyes, as if he was returning to normal. He glanced at Chen Ke, seemingly hinting at something. But the next second, Conrad reverted, pointing the gun at Laura.
"He’s right; let’s fix the ship first. What do you all think?" Laura said, then looked at the other crew members.
"I... I can’t take it anymore... I..." The crew member pointing the gun at his own head trembled all over, closed his eyes, his fingers trembling, and in the end, he pulled the trigger.
"Bang!"
Instantly, blood splattered, and the crew member’s head exploded into a bloody mess, red and white splashed everywhere.
"Oh! Fuck! Why has it come to this!" Nathan sighed.
Chen Ke looked at the remaining crew members. The recent scene had brought everyone’s emotions to a nadir. The three crew members who had been pointing their guns at Chen Ke and the others wavered and gradually lowered their weapons.
"This sea won’t let us leave... This is her playground..." Conrad’s tone suddenly turned sorrowful.
After uttering this cryptic sentence, he too lowered his gun. Tears slid down Conrad’s cheeks, creating a very eerie scene.
"Is she a god?" Chen Ke asked.
"She is..." Conrad sobbed, starting to speak but stopping halfway as a red line suddenly appeared on his neck.
"Click..."
Everyone saw Conrad’s head abruptly fall from his neck, and blood immediately spurted like a fountain from the severed neck into the sky.
"Ahhhhhh!!!!!" One of the three crew members completely lost it.
He screamed hysterically as he ran towards the far end of the deck, dropping his gun and jumping into the sea.
"Fuck! What the hell..." Nathan stepped back, cursing, his gun still aimed at Conrad’s body.
Laura, her face splattered with blood, retreated in horror and fell sitting on the deck.
Suddenly, the few remaining people on deck were in chaos, all stunned by this unexpected event, instinctively moving away from Conrad.
"Everyone, calm down! Calm down!" Chen Ke had seen scenes like this before, so he wasn’t very frightened, but he felt as if something was pressing on him, making him uncomfortable all over.
Guided by intuition, Chen Ke looked up at the bridge and saw a woman holding a head and leading a little boy, standing at the edge of the ruined cockpit, looking down.
It was Conrad’s wife and child; they looked down, then became more and more transparent, and finally vanished.
Could it be that once a person dies, their nightmare disappears...? Then, to stop these strange events from happening again... should all the people be killed?
"It’s impossible... Killing everyone is impossible..." Chen Ke muttered to himself as he watched Conrad’s headless body. Suddenly, he realized he was absorbing a trace of killing intent.
"+10 minutes"
"+10 minutes"
"+10 minutes"
...
Chen Ke looked at Nathan, who was watching him warily.
"Hey!" Chen Ke frowned and hissed.
"Man, what were you just saying?" Nathan asked.
"I was thinking that this sea not only materializes everyone’s nightmares but also stirs up suspicion among us. Haven’t you ever thought, if we kill everyone, wouldn’t these strange things stop appearing?" Chen Ke countered.
Nathan let out a sigh of relief, "Shit, I thought you had gone crazy too... Man, you’d better hold on... I don’t want to fight with you."
Chen Ke pulled up Laura, who although covered in blood, had merely been startled and had not collapsed. She must have seen her share of tough situations.
"Conrad is dead, the ship is still leaking, and we are out of time. What we need to do now is to plug the leak first," Chen Ke said in a deep voice, looking at the other crew members.
The remaining three crew members, leaderless now that the captain was gone, were directionless. Chen Ke didn’t know if they had other ideas, but right now, he needed people to help navigate the ship.
"We’ll do what you say... Just get us out of these waters!" the three crew members said in unison.
"Nathan, you take these three crew members to navigate the ship... I’ll go down and see if there’s a way to plug the leaks..." Chen Ke said.
"The cockpit is badly damaged, but you can still manually control it. I should be able to find the right direction using the map and stars... but steering the ship is up to you guys." Nathan looked at the three crew members.
"No problem," one of the crew members replied.
"By the way, there’s something down there... you better be careful," another crew member warned.
Chen Ke nodded, reassuring the crew member. Having someone help navigate the ship was the biggest issue, and he wasn’t too concerned about whatever was below. All he needed to do was call out his great sword and hack them all to death.
"What should I be doing...?" Laura asked, grabbing onto Chen Ke.
"You... go clean your face first," Chen Ke said.
